SanDisk Duo woes...

I went in to pick up my Pro Duo stick today. Wanted to come home, load it up, so come Thursday, plunk and play. Well, My card reader is going nuts with it, opening autoplay, running it for a few seconds, then closing. It's just not reading the card. Tried a standard memory stick pro, no problem. To boot, even though sandisk lists all their cards with adapters on the website, this one didn't have one. Shouldn't make a difference, though, as my reader is Duo-capable as well. Anyway, anyone think there's something I might be overlooking, or should I just get on the horn to SanDisk tomorrow with a wonder WTF?

I've been doing some more digging, and it seems most card readers will accept the Pro Duo format just fine...with the Memory Stick adapter. I'll need to keep digging, but if anyone else has the chance to test this- try a Duo in your readers that are supposed to be Duo compatible (without the memory stick adapter attached). If it works, please lemme know, as well as what brand reader it is.

It's probably a bit early dude.

Though it's been my experience that card readers in WinXP cant be pretty hit and/or miss, I've had one that would read regular cards one minute and not register at all.

You're going to want to format the duo with the PSP first anyway. I read on ign like back in January when they got their hands on a Jap PSP that they loaded all this stuff on it with a card reader and the PSP couldn't read the card. They then formatted the card with the PSP, hooked it up to the PC with the USB cable and could transfer things just fine that way.

So...it may be too early like the poster above said. But I think you're just going to have to play with it tomorrow and find out.

The PSP has certain folder names and file names that it requires for it to read off the card correctly and it puts this in when you format it with the PSP. I know with movies you can't name them sharktale.avi or lostintranslation.avi...the player that plays the mpeg4 files in the PSP is similar to the Clie PDA players and it requires files to be named in a particular way. I know the program 3GP does the naming for you. I'd start reading up on this today. Check out the PSP forum at sony.com for more info.

Yeah, sorry- should have mentioned that I cracked it open at EB and had them format it in their 'demo' unit. Either way, it turns out I was on the right track. Raised hell with SanDisk and they just don't normally put the adapters in these new ones (the one with the 'Compatible with PSP' labeling). Soooo, I figure my reader is just like the ones SanDisk has on their sight, as well, in that they require the adapter to read Duo sticks. Lame, ut, they're sending me an adapter for it. So much for the rush, right? As far as the naming goes, yeah, I've seen the MP_ROOT folder IC2 spits out and all of its contents. Makes it difficult to figure what files go where!

Thanks for the input, though!
