Nyko is coming out with a wide-angle lens for Kinect. From what Matt Buchanan says, it actually does its job well. Though this is how Kinect should have been done in the first place, its a great solution for those with small gaming areas.

Kinect: Your Shape...wide angle lens required.

Even better than WiiFit calling you fat & lazy every day.

This is a great idea if it works. Interested to see more real-world feedback.

Here's a PC World article that touches on potential drawbacks:

The good news is that it seemed to reduce the space needed for the Kinect, depth-wise. The bad news is that the wider lens means it's much more sensitive to people accidentally dropping in from the sides. Bystanders kept making the Kinect think another player was joining in when they were standing to the far side of the screen. Of course, your home isn't very likely going to have dozens of video game industry professionals walking through your living room when you're playing.

MSRP is going to be 30 dollars.

Wow, I'm really surprised they actually were able to do it through an accessory. I actually thought that MicroSoft would've just released a whole new Kinect to address those of us that have smaller rooms.
The photos that Kinect Adventures takes are going to be interesting.
I read this didn't distort images.
