Cost: 1,200 MSP ($15)

I really havent heard too much info about this game, but went out on a ledge because of the art style and purchased it, and honestly its my favorite XBLA title right behind Shadow Complex. This game is a Action/RPG but pleas do not expect a loot fest. The game has 11 different unique weapons (That Im aware of) but each weapon has 6 different upgrades (3 upgrades can be equipt at one time on a weapon). You pick up crystals from smashed barrells, boxes, enemies and use those along with crafting material to upgrade your weapons and town. The main storyline has you going from dungeon to Dungeon to Collect large Core Crystals which you use to restore Bastion (The main town/hub). Their are also several things you can do on the side to level/item grind such as collecting Memento's (Which can be used to learn new skills, and build new buildings in your town (Forge, Temple, Shops, Arsenal, etc). My favorite part is a item you find who you give to one of the NPC, and its a Piple, once you take a puff, you pass out and wake up sorta like an arena which you can face wave after wave of monsters to obtain more currency (crystals) for upgrading equipment and character, town. The Narrator who sounds like Samuel L Jackson is the highlight of the game, and gives a play by play description of what is going on as your playing. This game is worth every penny and glad I picked it up.

My score 9/10 (compared to Shadow Complex, my favorite XBLA title is 9.25/10)

Anybody who purchased this, what are your thoughts on this game?

I have been looking forward to this one... I am out of points at the moment, but once I restock I will be adding this game to my digital library.

I think it looks great, but I am worried it might be a little light on the content. Looking forward to more info.

Demo was decent, though the narrator didn't fit imo...the voiceover was too modern for a game that is set in a fantasy setting (he basically sounded like a jive cat from the 70's). The multiple layers of background can be distracting since the floor is scrolling as is the world beneath the floor at times.

Conceptually it's pretty awesome and it seems to have a lot of potential beyond the demo, but I'm still enjoying the crap out of Trenched so I can't justify getting another 1200 ms pt game. Basically, it didn't hook me enough to shell out the space bucks.

Been looking forward to it, but I will try the demo first. 1200 is too high to go out without trying first. That was a lesson I learned, thankfully not the hard way, with Half Minute Hero.

Im pretty sure thats intentional because the narrator will say stuff that you would hear in todays crowd, when I threw a lance perfectly and got a critical, he says "That kids got a mean throwing arm!" Trust me, when or if you get the full game, you will see the narrator fits really well for what this game is trying to do"

When I thought I was about to beat the game (low and behold not even half way their yet) narrator says "Yea, you thought were done huh, no not hardly"

fair enough.

I dig the narrator! I can see where it can remove you from the game a little, but it didn't happen for me. I really want to get the full game, but I only have enough points for this or the Dragon Age 2 DLC next week. I need to get some points, methinks.

I DLed it yesterday and have been playing a bit. I think I'm at level 3 right now. So far, it's been a lot of fun. I think they did an amazing job with the narrator. It seems very fluid. On the first board I was testing my limits and rolled off the edge and it went something like "Our hero wakes up and begins his journey. As he walks down the road, structures form around him. *I fall off the side*Then he leaps off the edge to his death. *Reset back on platform* Just playing. He continues walking towards his next stop." I like how there is story narration and action mixed together. It blends together well.

I don't know how many different enemies there are, but so far so good. They are fun, different weapons make for different strategies to get through levels, and hidden paths are fun to search for. I am pretty impressed for an arcade title. Unfortunately, the fruit ninja for Kinect is the weak spot in this lineup. I have it for free on my phone. I don't want to spend that much money on it for Kinect just to get in on the free game promo.

Bastian is definitely worth the points IMO. We'll see if that changes when I finish it.

Finally got around to playing the game today, it is worth the 1200 points, I was a bit apprehensive at first because everything I have bought lately has been 800 points or less, but it is worth the full price.

At first I thought Sam Elliot was the narrator!
Based just on the demo, this may be the best game music ever. I stopped and put down the controller just to listen to it. Of course I was chided for being lazy by the narrator...

As a game it might not be worth $15 to me, but supporting the dev is worth it so I think I'll be taking the plunge.

I was excited about this game, but I played through the demo and didn't really enjoy it. It might get better after the demo area of the game, but I'll wait for a sale before I chance it.

Yeah just finished the demo. I really like the combat too. I like alot of things about the game.

I also like the narrators voice, and hearing him. Im very tempted. Might use some Gamestop credit to buy a code.

Really wanted to like this game, but unlike everyone else, I can't stand the Narrator's voice, and the art style is just not for me, at all. Was wanting another great ROG, but just can't get past those two things.

Fun game but I did two playthroughs and 100% in about 5 and half hours. Length isn't everything of course but this felt more like $10 than $15. I felt the same way about Limbo though, so take that into account.

I hate when people make that comparison. It isn't the same. So if I go go a football game and it costs me $100 and only lasts 3 hours, I can't fault a $60 game for being 3 hours long as well?

I look at the value proposition against other games, not unrelated methods of entertainment.

It's the same for me. I budget entertainment dollars and those dollars are expected to get me a certain amount of entertainment regardless of their source.

The game was either $15 worth of fun or not. A game could be an hour and be $15 worth of fun. Making a 5 hour game longer won't automatically make it a better value; plenty of games wear out their welcome well before their end.

I've put about 4 hours into Bastion so far without finishing it yet. It's already been a better entertainment "value" for the money than any movie in recent memory I've been to (and I go to the movies weekly).

Seven people spent 3 years of their lives on this game. I am not going to be upset and claim that they got the better end of $15.

I bought this game on a whim after playing the trial, I'm satisfied and I've only played an hour. I like the art and the narrator, oddly reminds me of Zelda on the NES.

I played the demo a bit and I like it mostly, but I have a feeling it's one of those games I'd never really get around to finishing. I'll try the demo some more, though. I do like the narrator and style of the game.

I finished this last night. I didn't time myself but I would wager it took me around 6 hours. It felt long enough and didn't wear out it's welcome.

I really liked it. Fantastic game. For some reason when the credits rolled I had the urge to cry but I am not sure why.

Tried out the demo tonight and it seems a lot like torchlight to me. Can anyone with the full game confirm or deny the comparison?

I'm surprised there isn't more chatter about this game on here. It's amazing. I really like the diversity in the weapons and how the game encourages you to try them all out.

[quote name='louiedog']For anyone who enjoyed the music as much as I did, the soundtrack is now available.

I was just coming to post this! I haven't bought the game yet, but after listening to this OST.....gotta have the game and the CD. This music is amazing. Honestly, it's the best game music this year (followed closely by Portal 2) and best since last year with Red Dead and Alan Wake.

I just finished my first run through of this game. I must say, it's pretty amazing. The music, the narrative, the art style, all of it hit me just right. As another poster mentioned, I also felt emotional as the credits rolled.

I'll likely play through a second time on new game plus just to mess around with the variety of weapons and the shrines.

Got bored the first playthrough, so I turned on all Idols and used Pike and Calamity Cannon the entire way my second play. Still boring - and ridiculously easy.

Typical pretentious pap. Got it for free at least.

Just finished the New Game + and I absolutely loved this game! The art style, music, narration, and just the overall vibe were fantastic. Well worth the $15 and I'd love to see more of this world, whether in the form of DLC or a full-fledged sequel.

Liked this game for about the first hour, but wandering through the sameish looking levels fighting the same enemies got boring quick.

The enemy behavior alters radically when you start using idols.

Also, I thought, taking the game as a whole there were plenty of variety in enemies - but early levels they are all the same.

You also have a lot more room to experiment with different play styles as you gain access to more weapons and weapon upgrades.
