VG Music Thread EP doesn't want complaints about videos
Can we talk about game music too, or is this just for posting stuff?
All that and then some.

Feel free to talk about whatever it is that you're posting or just about VG music in general.

I didn't end up playing all of Nier, but it has some of the very best music I've heard in an RPG this gen.
The game itself was actually really fun for me as long as I avoided the sidequests like the plague.
I did every single one of those.

That includes the fishing ones

BEST.

OST.

EVER.

You didn't even feature what I consider to be the best song on the OST:

1:36 - 1:46 was my cell phone ring for a while. I deliberately drew out the boss battles which used this one so I could hear it again and again. :D

Back on FF music, as someone who owns pretty much every OST or variant in the series, some of my favorites have always been the Piano Collections. They take already great pieces and make them hauntingly beautiful:

And a true classic for good measure:

"My name is Atma... I am pure energy... and as ancient as the cosmos. Feeble creatures, GO!" :D

Do you guys listen to VG music regularly?

I like FF piano pieces when I'm doing school work, and while I mostly have hip-hop, dubstep, and DnB for my workout playlist, I also have some tracks from various games like Blazblue, FFXIII, Ace Combat, etc...

I do, RPG OSTs usually have a calming, classical sound to them

The World Ends With You is the only soundtrack for a game that I've bought. It's also the only one I ever really listen too. Every other soundtrack I have is due to CEs/bonuses, ie.

Beat me to it. This song is brilliant.

Awesome. Perhaps someone more electronica-savvy can tell me if there's a genre for this. Specifically the chopped rhythms, abused synths, and unpredictable variations. I know it as "sounds like Justice", but I can't figure out what it's called.

Progressive House, perhaps.

Yes, fairly regularly.

As for the Final Fantasy piano music when doing school work, I did the same thing in college. Still do sometimes. :D

Yup. I have a pretty decently-sized selection, with soundtracks from all types of games (mostly RPGs, though). Lately, I've been listening to the Project DIVA and Halo soundtracks the most. When I'm not listening to game music, I usually play hip hop or electronica.

Favorite composers, anyone? One of mine is Hideki Naganuma, who contributed some tracks to Jet Grind Radio's OST. He also composed most of the Sonic Rush OST, one of the best Sonic soundtracks ever IMO, and one of my VGM Holy Grails.

Another favorite is Koichi Sugiyama, aka the Dragon Quest composer. He also wrote some gorgeous music for Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer.
