Not too bad for a DS Lite or DSi trade-in. Given all threads on the 3DS price drop, I thought this needed its own thread.

EDIT:

If you're not a PUR member or don't have a coupon, the trade-in offers are tiered:
DSi XL: $99
DSi : $109
DSL: $119

this amounts to about + $10 trade-in

$99 for a 3DS?

I was JUST about to post this but you beat me to the punch ;)

I didn't see the coupon yet, but maybe it doesn't show up. I'm tempted by it! I still have some like $30-$40 in credit at Best Buy that maybe I can transfer and maybe use a PUR coupon to bring it down some more.

Looks like it's going to show up tomorrow (8/12). Hopefully, it works with all PUR members since sometimes it can be YMMV.

I skipped right over that part in the email I guess ha. But yea my initial reaction was that this was going to be a YMMV, but hopefully everyone can get it.

Well I was going to be using it, but it ends two days before I get paid so I'll be missing out unless I can trade some stuff towards it. :/

This deal is pointless for people who are going to buy a cheap ds lite and flip it for this. You would be spending 50 $ or so on a ds lite just to get a 169.00 handheld for 99.99. Add that up you are still spending 150.00 plus dollars so you arent saving much at all. Now If you already own one then this is tempting

works great for me. bought a broken ds lite on ebay for $20, replaced the upper display ($10) and recased it (another $10). total investment: $40, so it's like getting a 3DS for $130.
GS also just told me the ambassador program doesn't expire tonight. not sure I believe them.
Your ability to get the 20 free games definitely does

That's what I thought. Well they also gave me some crap about the global price change, which has already hit all my local target and walmarts.

Does Gamestop accept opened consoles/handhelds? I.e. seal broken? If not, then this isn't going to work. I suppose if you can reseal it, though.

Is there a seal on the DS? I've had mine for a while but I don't think I've noticed anything like that

Not only that but you will in no way be able to buy a broken ds lite, repair it and reseal it in two days

Hm, well still on the fence about the 3DS. Was going to get it originally just to get the 20 free games, but decided it wasn't worth it. But if I can pick up a cheap DS Lite somewhere, then maybe I'll go in on this deal as I doubt it'll go much below $150 anytime soon.

This isn't even that good of a deal. I mean if you absolutely want to get rid of your DS fine, but in my opinion the 20 free games is a MUCH better deal/value

I'd personally: Buy the 3DS today at Best Buy, Target, etc..qualify for the 20 games, and sell my DS lite on ebay, CL or on here. The system still sells for over $60 on ebay

That's probably YMMV. I've traded a couple of PSPs in that I've recased before.

Do we still get the trade in credit for the system or is that voided because we're getting a "deal"? I have $77 in trade in credit which is supposed to go to skyrim, but if i can trade in my ds lite and get the $30 for that AND a new 3ds...

$169.99 for 3DS bought today
- $54 from sale of DS Lite on ebay ($65 avg price, minus fees). You will get more for a DSi
-------------------------------
Total: $116 out of pocket (taxes vary of course) PLUS 20 free games

OR this deal:

$169.99 bought after the 12th
- DS or DSi traded in
-----------------------
Total: $99 out of pocket (taxes vary) MINUS 20 free games

I dunno about you, but the first looks a whole lot better than the second, especially if you have a DSi, or XL

Just a thought but maybe if you keep your $99 3DS sealed, you could exchange it for a "flare red" version coming out in September. that's a long time to keep it sealed but if you're in no hurry to play it it's within 30 days (red comes out on 9/9)
Damn I wanted to trade in my PSP go[/QUOTE

You should trade it in or sell it as fast as possible. It's value isn't going to go anywhere but down as the vita comes closer to release.

Lol, just got this in my e-mail.

I have no use for this as I don't have the money and the 3DS doesn't really appeal to me at the moment. Maybe in a couple of years, when it has games that interest me.
Not only that but you will in no way be able to buy a broken ds lite, repair it and reseal it in two days
I received the broken ds lite, repaired and recased it this past weekend and I was going to sell it on ebay as a "refurbished system", but just hadn't gotten around to it. this offer will net me a few more dollars given what a "like new" DS lite goes for on ebay).

I consider that a really good deal. Totally my price point. My screen is a little scratched from puzzle quest (it looks like a grid). It doesn't say if you need a charger. $69 trade in just sounds a lot better to me than $60 on ebay minus fees.

This is the worst deal thread ever.
1)Only available to power up rewards pro members.
2)To be a member It costs $14.99 a year. And this is probably the best deal they've had in ages.
3)They'll buy your DSL for 69.99 essentially which isn't bad, but if you own a DSi/DSi XL you of course could score way more on craigslist/ebay/selling through cag.
4)If you're a member you already know about this deal.

got me all excited for nothing.

if I recall, GS requires both a charger and a stylus on all DS system trade-ins. if you lack either of those, they'll let you purchase a used or one of the 3rd party versions that they sell and remove its cost from your credit amount. (I've actually seen people have to purchase both a charger and pack of styluses in order to trade in their old DS lite system).

additionally, they either will not accept systems which have suffered a lot of abuse or have a broken hinge (at the manager's descretion).

I wonder gamestop wouldnt let you exchange it for a fire red one straight up cause you spent 99.99 on it and by then the fire red would be msrp obviously. Wouldnt surprise me if they would instead take the 99.99 that you payed for your 3ds and deduct it from the fire red during a exchange

Not to burst your bubble, but yea, not everyone cares about the 20 free retro games deal.

anyone know if they take broken ds's? i have one where the top screen doesn't work. have the replacement parts, but never got around to doing it.

Oh I'm sure of that, hence my wording. Most of you guys just want to get a 3DS as cheap as possible to play a 13 year old game
I guess if you don't care about getting 20 free games it would
if he or she has a ds system that they want to trade in and take advantage of this coupon, then they have to wait until tomorrow when the deal kicks in

TWO 13 year old games--
Starfox is coming out soon.

How does buying a DS lite on ebay work? The offer ends on the 14th and you only have 3 days to get it.
It wouldn't. Unless it's local and they can give it to you in person. But otherwise this is for people that already own a DS

Wait, I might actually do this!
$70 for my DSlite, woot!!

5. Do I get my $14.99 back if I decide to cancel my PowerUp Rewards Pro membership?

You're not going to want to do that in a million years.
But if you insist, you'll get a full refund within 7 days of purchasing your membership
by returning your card to any participating GameStop store.
Also, any bonus points earned for the purchase of the GameStop PowerUp Rewards Pro
membership will be forfeited at that time.

The ol' in and out. finally i can kinda stick it to gamestop for once.
