Civilization V for $16.98 on GamersGate & Amazon (Activates with Steam)

Looks like same price they had several weeks ago, which is when I bought my copy from the UK site. $11 is the best price I've seen to date.

Was waiting for another this. Thanks for posting! Downloading through Steam now.

This is my first Steam game. And my first gamersgate purchase. In case there are other noobs:

1)Set up a Steam account on the web.
2)Download the Steam client to your PC/Mac and install it.
3)Go to gamersgate.com in a web browser and start an account. You will need to email verify it.
4)Login to gamersgate.co.uk using the same info you used to verify that gamersgate.com account and buy the game you want, in this case Civ V. You can use Paypal or other methods like direct credit card processing.
5)At gamersgate.co.uk (you should still be there) click My Library -> My Games
6)You should see Civ V listed. Don't click DOWNLOAD! On the right, below Download, there should be a button that says "Show Activation Code" or similar. Click that.
7)Copy the activation code.
8)Open your Steam client (not the website) and login.
9)Bottom left of your Steam client it says "Add A Game". Click that and there are three options. Choose "Activate a product on Steam".
10)Paste your gamersgate activation code, and then it should be simple to install your game from Steam!

10 easy steps. For dumb asses like myself.
Why haven't they made a complete edition for this one yet? Or a DLC combo pack or something. $49 of DLC is crazy in my book.
I'm with you. I can't even be bothered trying to sort out that much dlc, just give me the complete game for a good price.

Excellent game at an excellent price. I purchased a copy for my brother so thanks for posting the deal.

As far as the DLC, just wait for a steam deal. I am sure around christmas they'll have all of that DLC for 66-75% off. Most of it only adds a few civs or wonders to the game so you aren't missing all that much.

Because they're still making it. You won't see a "complete" edition for a while. Possibly a "GOTY" edition that bundles up some of the early DLC, but not a complete edition, because they're still pumping out new DLC regularly.

Remember that Civ games are generally on a 5-year cycle, with 2 expansion packs at the 1- and 2-year mark, and the "complete" edition at the 3-year mark. This goes all the way back to Civ 1 in the early 90's. The DLC is different than the expansion packs, yes, but my point is that the games continue to expand and grow and evolve over a two year cycle.

The DLC is popular, the game is popular (persistently at #5-7 on the Steam gameplay statistics page). We have seen DLC at 40% off, and hopefully soon they'll give us a nice 75% off sale at some point.

But the truth is, most people don't need or want all the DLC. The base game is all the casual or intermediate player needs, and the rest is up to the buyer. Some people love getting extra countries and rulers. Some people love new maps. Some people love the new game modes. If they ever get around to a 75% DLC sale, you can cherrypick the type of game you want.

I think that for anyone with a passing interest in the game (and if you had more interest, you would probably have already bought it), a good strategy is to get it for $12 or $17, and enjoy the 80-100 hours of goodness that gives you. Then buy the DLC you want for a buck or two each on the weekend that they hit 75% off.

Also can be found on Amazon. (This version does not activate on Steam, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.)

I bought my copy from Amazon (digital) and can confirm it DOES activate on Steam.
So if I do this, theres no difference in the game or anything right?
Nope, no difference at all.
Am I correct in assuming I could jump on this, activate it and then download the Mac version from Steam?
The game supports SteamPlay, so yes.

They are still releasing DLC for the game as far as I know, so they can't issue a "complete" edition. DLC packs would be nice, but none of the DLC is really required so you can just pick and choose what you want, if any at all.

Plus, as someone else said, Steam will put it on sale. I think it's already been on sale at least twice at 60%-75% off.

Wow, good stuff. $17 for this game is a very worthwhile deal, and $11 is just amazing! This game is incredibly deep and has more content than you can shake a stick at.

I totally second gcorlett's comments that the majority of players would not ever need the DLC, since the core game offers so many hours in itself.

No, you're mistaken. I just adhere to the CAG philosophy very well. I've gotten the last two games with everything for under $20 each and by golly I'd like to do similar with this one.

Anyone beaten the game on Deity yet? I just beat it on Immortal last night with Egypt. I am thinking about braving Deity but Immortal was so dang hard, I don't know. :)

I want to join the 1.1% club (as far Steam Achievements go), the 1.4% club just isn't exclusive enough for me.

I admire your tenacity. See you in holiday 2012 for that "complete" edition for $40. :D
