OK, so I've never had a cell before, and am able to choose between two models on the HSN website. Must be between these two because it's where we have credit available, and the service provider has to be Net10 (no choice in the matter there).

The first phone is a Samsung R355C and it comes with 300 minutes good for a year.

The second phone is a LG 620G and it comes with 750 minutes good for one month.

Now I don't think I'll really ever be texting, since no one I know does, though I am kind of leaning towards the Samsung since I just like the look of it.

Anyone have any suggestions on these two phones?

They're both the same price, and no idea about call quality or reception. Probably wouldn't find that out till I actually used the phone.

I'm sure there's websites similar to broadbandreports though, but for cellphones. Where people rate the phones and they graph it out on a map or something like that.

Think I'm going to get the Samsung R355C. Just going on looks, since I know absolutely nothing else about them that matters.

If there are sites like broadbandreports (never heard of that one before either) I doubt they'd help me, I know nothing at all about cell phones or what to look for in anything cell related, that's kinda why I wanted help, but ah well.

Both are also used by Walmarts StraightTalk service as well, which is better in terms of price (30/mo for 1000 mins, 1000 txts and 30mb data OR 45/mo for unlimited talk/txt/data). Now the difference is this, the Samsung runs off the Verizon network, while the LG runs on ATTs network. They may be a tad high, by about 20~30 for the Sammy at Walmart, but I would go with the Samsung, and go with StraightTalk, over the NET10. If you love to txt then go with the Samsung. If you could care less and just want basic phone to talk, then the LG.

Ultimately, I recommend the Samsung. Verizon is better, and seeing as you've never had a cell phone and will mostly certainly get sucked into txting, I whole heartedly recommend the Samsung

Thing is I can't go with the Straightalk plan. To actually buy a phone I have to use HSN credit, it's that or no phone at all. That's how broke we are.

Plus Net10 has $20 cards (which is just about more than we can afford to pay) that once activated last 60 days instead of most other plans 30 days.

Going to get the Samsung, just waiting to see if HSN happens to add something else in the meantime.

I'm going to be honest... you might consider not getting a phone at all. As someone who actively avoided having a cell phone for a long time, once you get used to the convenience of having one, you'll get very annoyed when you run out of minutes and can't afford to get more. You might be better off putting that credit toward something else, so you don't end up acclimated to a phone you might not be able to maintain.
