4 DVD set contains the 35 episode series with English subtitles - the first time it's been legally released in the US. The series takes place after the end of the US Season 3, ignoring the 3-part Rebirth conclusion story, and taking things in a different direction. It lacks some of the original magic, but heck, it's more of Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Galvatron, Soundwave, and other classic characters and toys we all know and love.
The only thing to keep in mind is Shout Factory will be producing a megaset with 3 Japanese series collected into one (Headmasters, 1988's Transformers: Chôjin Master Force, and 1989's Transformers: Victory) somewhere down the line. They tend to include exclusive extras in their large sets, which is annoying for people who buy the releases separately. But buying this one now is a good way to support Shout Factory even bringing us Japanese Transformers.
