HMV - 10%-50% off games (YMMV)

Deal seems like YMMV because the store looks like it's clearing out their games section and there's no mention of the deal on their website, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

Popped into HMV today (Midtown Saskatoon location) on lunch break and they had signs up advertising a game deal saying "10%-50% off" Every game I looked at had a red sticker with a discount on it, the majority of them 20% or 30%. Nothing released in the past few weeks on the shelves but some okay seeming deals (will probably grab The Show '11 at 30% off of $39.99 and Beautiful Katamari at 30% off of $39.99 if they're still there on payday, had some other decent deals like most PS3 Greatest Hits titles for 30% off)

Could just be the one store, but the sale signs all looked like they were done up by corporate, professionally printed, store colors and brand etc. and sent out so they could be phasing games out of a larger number of stores. Worth checking out if you're near one.

I can confirm this special was at the HMV on Spring Garden. I didn't check any other stores in the area but my money is on this being a large sale.

Lots of PSP Go accessories on for 4.99 minus 30% if I remember correctly.

This is nationwide, saw it in Ottawa and Rosemère. Most of the games are 20% off, additional % only applies to really bad games or kids stuff (or stuff nobody wants/needs like PSP Go accessories). 20% off full retail price isn't really hot for most games, but it kinda is for some of these game that never seem to go on sale (I picked up DQVI DS).
Beautiful Katamari goes for $7.99 used at EB.
Oops, that should've said Katamari Forever. The one on PS3. My mistake.

I was there a while back. They were all in a fence bin. Still awful prices, just like Blockbuster.

Stopped by the HMV in Cambridge Centre. Many titles are 20% off, but most of them are MSRP or expensive.

Newly released titles (like Catherine) are not 20% off.

Good deals on bundle games -- these tend to be unloved and off to the side, but also tend to be crappy. PS3 EA Sports Active, Disney Sing It, etc.

Best deal: 3DS SSIV : 20% off 34.95

Stock was already pretty low. I didn't find anything I wanted.

Went to HMV at Carrefour Angrignon last week and didn't see anything... in fact, the game's shelves were all empty

Still a lot of games at the Vaughn Mills Location.

I picked up (all on 360):
Vanquish - $24 (reg. $30, 20% off)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine - $17.50 (reg. $35, 50% off)
Bionic Comamndo $12 (reg. $17, 30% off)
Tom Clancy's EndWar - $7.50 (reg. $15, 50% off)

I was happy to finally pick up Vanquish, all the GameStops I've checked haven't had it. The rest of these games are meh, but for less than $20, why not? :p Overall, I thought that wasn't too bad, $70 for 4 games?

Aanyway, I should note:
Recent releases NOT on sale.
360 seemed to have the most games with large discounts (50%).
PS3 was basically the same as 360 (none of the exclusives had very large discounts so I passed).
Wii catalog was horrible, very few first party games.
PSP games had decent discounts (eg. the recently released $15 dual packs are 20% off).
DS games are okay, most Nintendo exclusives were 20% off, which is pretty awesome if you don't own them yet.

Lastly, I should pass on this info:
Sales rep told me that MOST locations are clearing out their games, with the exception of high traffic locations (his example was the Younge and Dundas location, but according to a proir post, this is NOT true). So remember, the discounts will increase as their stock dwindles!

You could have picked up Vanquish at Walmart 19.99 (or 9.99?) in discount bin. Saw X-men Origins at 9.99 in discount bin at Toysrus this weekend.

I find prices at HMV to be 20% or higher than any other retailer. It's the last place I expect to find a deal much less comparable pricing. This sale is no different. I dropped into their location on Spring Garden Rd and it was bad, overpriced titles with 20-30% off. Hardly inspiring.

I picked up You Don't Know Jack for 20% off of $29.99. I was happy enough with it, considering everywhere else I looked it was 29.99 anyway. Saved a few bucks at least. Nothing else really grabbed my attention as an insane deal though.

Where d'you live? I know for a fact that I looked through all the games at the games in the "discount bin" at Toys'R'Us in Vaughn Mills and neither Vanquish, nor X-Men Origins was there.

I'm incredibly unlucky in finding a copy of Vanquish, I'm just happy I finally found it, deal or no deal. :p I'd happily have payed $60 for it, considering how good it is and the fact that it's a new IP. Sad that it probably won't get a sequel. :( Best one-off this generation.

Sadly, I agree, HMV's games are overpriced. :( I can't help but buy games from them, it's not like they're making very much in CD sales anymore. >.< Darn the awesome-ness that is iTunes!

I haven't seen a single copy of Vanquish anywhere since EB did it for a DotD. Not new/used, nothing, it's nowhere to be found around here. Of course, thinking of DotD's, wasn't Wolvie readily available for $5 several times? $10 sounds right for getting it now.

When I checked HMV, new games (released this Fall) were NOT discounted. It's possible this has changed since I checked, but I wouldn't expect them to give a discount on MW3 or Skyrim when they've only been out for a week. ;)

None of the new releases were discounted at my HMV. The only games that were discounted, were ones that have already had a large price drop everywhere else, while HMV still had MSRP on them. Thus even with the 30%, they were more $$$.

If they really are getting out of gaming, there might be some good discounts in the coming months... but then why would they be gettting new releases in if they were getting out of the games.

See, that's why I bought Vanquish. I honestly didn't care about the price when buying it, I was just happy I finally found a copy, as I missed the DOTD at EB. After playing it, I wish I'd bought it at release, to support Platinum Games. >.< They make really good games (MadWorld, Bayonetta and Vanquish, I never did play Infinite Space). Oh, everyone check out Anarchy Regins! It's basically the multiplayer component of MadWorld, Jack is Back! ;)

Stopped by Fairview Mall in Kitchener. I wasn't expecting to find much.

There was still a video games section, and while most titles were discounted, it didn't look as sad as Cambridge's and didn't look like they were completely giving up games.

Picked up Portal 2, which was 20% of 39.99. Not great, but decent. Too many games are still MSRP, making the discounts mostly meh.
