What do you all think about this game?

With the purchase of a new NVIDIA card, I was able to get a Steam code for the game.

I never played the first game, so not sure if I am going to miss out on much or this game is a stand alone?

Game is definitely not meant to be played without playing the first. The first one is excellent, plus you can grab it on the cheap now. I'd highly recommend playing Asylum before City.

I agree with SEH. You need to play Asylum first. You earn the gadgets and learn to use them over the course of the game. In Arkham City, you get dropped right in with the majority of those gadgets at your disposal. Might be a bit overwhelming to somebody who hasn't play Asylum. Not to mention the story bits you'd be in the dark on.

I think Arkham CIty is an awesome game!

And I dont think you need to play the first to to understand it. I played this without having played the first. You can always use walkthroughs if you have problems

Cool. I take it that you all played the first one with keyboard + mouse? I'm going to look for it on sale, otherwise STEAM.
Loading up the pc game today.. cant wait..

held off going too far on the 360 so i can play it on pc
I was able to start the STEAM download, so that means it is almost ready to play, right? So many games, so little time.

Espeically now that Zelda came out and I bought CIV 5, argh, need more holiday vacations!

its a good game but it's more of a console game than the normal pc set up.

good amount of meat on this game compared to the last one too.
the combat does get a bit repetitive tho =p

The DX11 effects are not working properly. Even people with super rigs are getting fps of 20 or less. Really disappointing how it wasn't ready out of the box.

I read about this. DX11 is seemingly downright broken. Pretty annoying they delayed the game repeatedly to implement PC specific features, then they just wind up being broken.

also having those dx11 issues..
i got my game through greenman because i wanted the gfwl version.. not sure if its affecting steam users..

kinda sucks though as the guy above mentioned.. delays for this?

Just started on this this morning. Too bad it's Thanksgiving and I've got to go spend time with the fam, I didnt want to put it down. DX9 runs great on my 580 (obviously), but DX11 is a total mess (we're talking like 5-15FPS).

I am glad to see another person with a 580 is having issues, I was just wondering if I was pushing my card too hard..

Yeah, the DX11 in the game is total trash. Pretty appalling that they let it get like this considering all the delays. Makes me wonder what the fuck the delays were even for.

So the Steam version that comes with NVIDIA cards don't connect to GFWL as well? I remember I got Bioshock 2 from Steam but it still used GFWL for online/achievements.

i thought the steam version was not GFWL.. there was a whole discussion about it that steam would use steam achievements and not gfwl.

Its the reason i ordered from greenman

And yea.. hope the dx11 is patched.. i mean its one of the reasons i held out for pc version.

Steam version has some steamworks features like cloud and achievements. But it also has securom and gfwl. And when u get an achievement it unlocks simultaneously on steam and live.

FYI

Origin has this one sale for $25 today.. wish i had waited.

I started playing on xbox but never finished.. now playing it through PC. With DX11 off, it runs great on my rig. Some parts with physx though tax my 560 though..

I popped in the 360 version today.. and for the most part im suprised how well it looks on the console. Maybe i expected too much on pc but ill resever judgement until dx11 is patched.

Lost my save file, luckily I was only 2 hours in. I tried to copy from a previous version of my save file in the Steam folder and follow other methods to restore my save, but no dice. Kinda scared to play now knowing the next time I start it up it may decide to lose my save file.

...And now GFWL will not log in so I can't play/would have to re-start all over again if I played offline. What a shitty feeling to have a game randomly erase progress and flat out refuse to work.

Yeah I lost my save file right at the end of the game and it refuses to let me load a previous version. Games for Windows Live is a piece of shit and Microsoft should be ashamed for not fixing this major issue that the has affected GFWL since the first games that use it.

Out of the 3 or so GFWL games I've played, this is the only one to give me trouble. I used to want the PC version to be GFWL so I could get achievements (and pay less for a better version of the game). Not anymore!

I have no clue how I'm going to be able to play this since it wine connect to Live. New Bioshock 2 won't even start up too (crashes after clicking play on Steam).

To add fuel to the fire, some GFWL achievements aren't being updated on my profile, even though I see the pop up in game. The Steam achievements go through fine. It's been surmised that save file losses has to do with the glitchy achievements. So, the best way to avoid the save glitch is, after unlocking an achievement, make sure you trigger another save, such as getting XP, entering another room, or picking up a trophy. Here's the ones that I was affected with so far:

1. Communication Breakdown
2. Serial Killer
3. Dial Z for Murder
4. Stop the Clock
5. AR Knight
6. Brainteaser
7. Sphinx' Riddle

The first 6 can be redone in New Game + (you actually have to do them again in order to unlock the 100% achievement). Sphinx' Riddle is 1 time only (collect all of Catwoman's Riddler trophies), so I would hold off on doing that until it's patched. I would hesitate to do the challenges too because they're one time only and I would hate to have to redo them all under a new save slot.

All in all, an awesome game. I'll hold off on doing anymore of the achievements until a patch fixes it. This is the only GFWL game that I've had issues with achievements and save files with.

I'm playing Asylum: GOTY edition and I'm having a ball. I'm going to wait patiently for a GOTY edition of Arkham city. Don't hate WB, I'm just a cheapskate.
