XBLIG Price Drops

Since Microsoft recently changed their pricing structure for Xbox Indies, larger games can can now be sold for 80 MSP. As a result, many XBLIG devs have opted to drop the price of their games. I thought it would be pretty cool to have a thread that would try to track what WORTHWHILE games are now cheaper.

DISCLAIMER: Yes, I know that Xbox Indies is a largely horrifying wasteland of shovelware and absolute garbage like "Avatar Zombie Massager" and "Look I Made a One Level Platformer with MS Paint!!!". (There's really no need to elaborate on it further, we all know this.) But there ARE some good games in the pile. And I'd like to keep the thread focused on those, if possible.

DISCLAIMER 2 (The More Important One):
Xbox Live Indie Games require an internet connection to start the game. It doesn't matter if you have a Silver (Free) or Gold account, just that the Xbox is connected to the internet. Again, this is only to start the game; once the game is running you can disconnect your Xbox, but not sign out of your profile.

Thanks for the heads up on the info. I have been away from my 360 for a while but will definitely be checking out a few of those games. Plus there were a few that I tried before that I will now look back into and see if they too have dropped.

Good idea for a thread and I will be checking back later to see how it is going.

I dunno. It's true about the shovelware wasteland, but to make the rare gems come out at a lower price point seems to dwindle the motivation for future releases to me. In some cases, I actually don't mind paying a little more for the more talented creations.

Excellent idea for a thread Vamn! Everyone should check out Cthulu Saves The World, fun little title.

I think a lot of the devs wanted to sell their games at a lower price point to begin with; the only thing stopping them was Microsoft's size/pricing restriction. Apple's App Store might be a model for comparison. Yes, it's filled with shovelware, too, but there are plenty of great games that sell for $0.99. Plus, a handful of devs (like Magical Time Bean, the guys who made Soulcaster and Escape Goat) have already figured out that people are more willing to pull the trigger on a $1 game than a $3 one and that means more profit for them.

I enjoyed the Decay series.

First game is 80 points, but takes less than fifteen minutes to complete - its more of a trial, really, for the second and third games (which are 240 points each and take maybe an hour each).

Appreciate the posts here. Its really hard to tell what is a good Indie game and what titles are just junk. And lower prices are nice, too!

Let's keep this topic bumped with anything new we find.... I don't think xbldb checks for indie games, does it?

-Spylon, would it be hard to implement?

Also, vamn, will you be updating the OP with new findings? If you don't want the task, would you think of wikifying it?
Do know if this dropped, but I bought I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 (80MSP) a while back, its a fun game. Its kind of like geometry wars but with zombies, crazy music and light effects.

Edit: Just noticed that Minecraft is free (where have I been:whistle2:#)
Zomb1es has always been a dollar - hence it's theme music ;)

And that's only the trailer for Minecraft, it's not coming for a few months.

I'll see how well I can keep up with the updates and go from there.

Cthulu Saves the World is great and a steal at $1.

Highly recommended, especially for people who played and enjoyed retro RPGs in the past.

I also recommend Cthulu at a buck, I bought it when it was 240 points and felt it was worth it so at 80 everybody should give it a try.

Looking forward to the floodgate of $1 Indie Games coming up. I really wish Microsoft would give these people their due. They seem to treat these games and their developers like crap and many developers are going elsewhere from what I have read over at the create.microsoft forums. It is a shame.

Thanks for the heads up on this deal. Some of the indie games are well made compared to their xbla counterparts. I cheer for those that will take one for the team.

Breath of Death VII is an entertaining rpg. It's 80 points (not sure if it dropped).

I assume it dropped as well. It's by the same people who did Cthulhu Saves the World.

Both games are on sale in a package that's been discounted to $1 a couple of times on Steam. It's also coming to Mac (as well as iOS and Android) soon and I wouldn't be surprised to see it updated to Steamplay when it does. The requirements are very low. Just a heads up for people who like options.

I picked up both Soulcaster titles when they were $3. They're fun NES style retro games in the line of Zelda and Gauntlet. Quite a steal for $1 each.

It was always $1. I know because I grabbed it when it first came out. :D

Still, it's a good game and worth playing. Also, Zeboyd, the guy(s) who made this and Cthulu, are supposedly working on the 3rd Penny Arcade game.

Cthulu Saves the World is pretty good especially for a dollar. I own it on both steam and xbox.
I had the first soulcaster I'll pick up the 2nd for sure since the price dropped.

Cthulu Saves the World is a STEAL at $ 1 . It was pretty funny and good old fashioned 8 bit romp . Hope Zyboyd keeps cranking them out . I Made a game with zombies in it has thee catchiest tune ever . Worth it for the song alone . Going to pick up Soulcaster 1 and 2 . Thanks op :)

As a stupidly big fan of 2D games, I can vouch for the quality of all 4 of these titles. Also, the Soulcaster dev recently released Escape Goat. Also totally worth it!
Antipole is now also 80MSP, wasn't the original price 400MSP?
Looking that up now. Is it pretty much the same as the DSiWare version? Anyone know?

EDIT: It was 240 according to a couple review sites (400 according to Destructoid for some reason...). Regardless, it's 80 MSP now. Adding to OP.

Not a drop, but I second a recommendation Wombat gave a while back for the game Cursed Loot (though it was called Epic Dungeon when he recommended it). Cursed Loot is a re-release with another playable character and other updates.

It has been well worth the $1.
DLC Quest.

Shoot 1Up.
...are 80 point Indie games, and always have been. There are lots of other 80 point Indie games that are also good This thread was addressing Indie games that have recently dropped to 80 points though.

I didn't bother reading into reviews for DLC quest. The concept of the game sounds brilliant and hillarious. Thanks Survivalism, and thanks OP for the other titles I snagged.

Nice thread. Yeah there's so many XBLIGames that it overwhelmed me and I stopped looking into that section. I just don't know which ones are good.

Also I remember buying this game called Fishing Girl, it's still 80ms pts. It's pretty chill, but I can't find it ever since I traded and upgrade my old xbox 360 to the new ones. It's not in my purchase history or anything. I guess it went missing after doing the license transfers. I wouldn't mind getting it again though.

We need a new thread for all good Indie games I think. I've bought a few tonight and they have worth the dollar I spent. Might pick up a few more as well, just need more ideas.

For people wanting a minecraft like game I suggest crap... now I forgot the game. Epic dungeon maybe? It's the one that looks JUST like minecraft (there are others that look better) anyway, that particular game is pretty good. You can dig to ridiculous depths.

FortressCraft Chapter 1? (240MSP)

I enjoyed the demo for Chester...may have to pick that up now.

I too wouldn't mind seeing an XBLIG Recommendations/Discussion thread...

good thread!

Chester is great for a buck! I sporadically download indies and there are some gems in the rough for sure. :)
Some titles that have always been a buck I think: DLC quest is super, Trailer Park King is kind of fun/funny for a dollar too. Vizati is another interesting puzzler. I

The developers of all these games should be supported. They were great deals at $3... now it's just ludicrous. Help these talented designers out!

I say the OP just gets updated with the price drops and we post recommendations. That way i dont forget to check both threads:)

What was that puzzle game that Justin from Joystiq wrote about? Has that dropped?

Edit: NM i found it. Its called Sequence, and its still $3

Total Miner Forge? They have been constantly updating the game and it has up to otherwise 24 or 32 player multiplayer now as well, along with a lot of different modes and they still have some more content planned to be added to the game for free.

I don't know if it was always that price (don't follow XBLIG much), but Miner Dig Deep is also 80 points. Haven't had a chance to play it, but I recall hearing good things.

I for one think that opening up Xbox Live marketplace for amateur developers is one of the best things MS has done yet in regards to Xbox. Sure, most of the games are crap compared to the quality games were now used too but its true value isn't in supplying great games, its that it gives young developers the motivation to develop and an outlet for the pieces they do develop. I have absolutely no doubt that sometime in the near future I will read an interview with one of the next big creative minds in the industry and they will point to XBox Live Marketplace as the start of their career. Programs that inspire and help young artists achieve their goals are extremely important and I commend MS for this aspect of Xbox Live. We need more programs like this, especially these days when so many arts programs are being slashed.

As for the games themselves, I have enjoyed quite a few. Bird Assassin, Solar 2, Cthulhu Saves the World, Home Run Challenge, Square Off, Get to tha Choppa!!1, etc.. I have to admit, I also enjoy seeing how many different ways zombies can be used in the Indie section. So far we have Zombie Snowmen, Zombie Santa, Angry Zombie Ninja Cats, Zombie Football, Zombie Racers, Zombie Monkeys, Avatar Zombie, Zombie Sausages, Zombie Accountant, Zombie Bunnies, Zombie Poker, Zombie Outhouse, And many many more. Its become sort of a running joke in the Indie section. Personally, I would like to see a zombie game that takes place in a nursing home. Zombies with walkers and zombie in wheel chairs would be hilarious. I am sure we will see it soon.

Good idea for a thread. It's hard to sort through all the crap in XBLIG just to find the rare gems. Hope this brings attn to the good devs and ppl will pick some up and support.

Prismatic Solid is another great title just lowered to 80... one I picked up for 240 and just played for the first time a week ago.... ugh.

EDIT: wait, am I thinking of Revolver360? 'cause that's still 240....

EDIT 2: yep, always been 80. I have a feeling this is going to be happening a lot around here.

Please, please...... PLEASE Spylon, add XbiG's to your site!!!
