DotA 2 - Let's Monster Kill Together!

Are there anyone else out there that's playing DotA2? I've 'graduated' from LoL and have migrated to DotA2 and am looking for others that are playing so that we might be able to improve together.

Anyone? :)

I wish. :(

I have yet to get a beta invite/key/freebie.

My good friend actually got one from the Holiday event and HATES moba games, but decided to activate it on his account instead of giving it to someone he KNOWS wants it. >.>

Have about 350 games played so far. The roster is still missing quite a few heroes.

I played DotA on WC3 for 3 or so years back in the day, and have played league since launch.

BTW does anyone know of a DOTA2 guide page? I've noticed that a lot of the guides point you to DOTA1 guides but the item lists on those pages haven't been updated to the DOTA2 names which causes a lot of confusion.

Thanks in advance. :)

What are your opinions of the game? And other mobas?

Dota2 is defiantly a fantastic game for old dota players, but for new players to the MOBA concept it is very difficult to pick up. Many people who come from only a LoL background do not do so good in dota. It has several advanced concepts that are just confusing for new players. Also the community is more elitist on this sense, and will bash on newer players who feed or play wrong. And they have a good reason to, if one person sucks the whole team is held back.

Overall great game, do your research and play against bots for awhile.

Except even the bots will wreck you.

EDIT:

As for the game itself I have played a handful of matches, but none of the current heroes have drawn me in.

The annoying thing about Dota2 is that so many champs seem outclassed. And if I pick someone who's fun but not top tier I dont even have a fighting chance, I'm just fucked.

But I'm a noob so who knows.

Ain't this the truth. I get wrecked by bots all the time. But I'm determined to improve my game. :)

BTW, new patch today that adds Spirit Breaker and Silencer.

And of course, patch notes. More on the official site: http://blog.dota2.com/

Still waiting on a beta key. I love LoL, so I'm hoping this will be fun too.

They are not even comparable.

i began on WC3 DotA for a long while as well, and the concept there is definitely more in depth than LoL's . however, it's always funny to watch elitist communities go at each other for which game is harder, since mobas in general are incredibly easy to pick up. skill really depends more on knowing the nuances of each game, and there isn't some incredibly high ceiling of mechanical thought involved in any of them.

Sure, they both have 3 lanes and a base. But the similarities end there.

Here's a list of some major differences:

LoL

No creep denies
No tower denies
Has a lot of items
Can only buy at base
Max level 18

DotA 2

Creeps deniable
Towers deniable
Has way more items
Can buy at base and many stores all over map
Max Level 25

*Note: Denying = you killing your own creep/tower so that the enemy gets a fraction of the xp and no gold.

These are just some differences. The play styles of these two games are also very different. I would definitely categorize LoL as the more casual and DotA 2 as the more hardcore.

I really wish I hadn't play LoL before DotA 2 because I feel that by doing so made it harder for me to learn DotA 2. Ugh.

This is why I skipped out on LoL after playing way too much DotA.

My co-workers ask why I don't play LoL if I enjoyed DotA so much, "It's like the same game, made by the same people."

NOPE. LoL has no defense, which is why it is not called DEFENSE of the Ancients.

Steam id: j-cart

Granted I am a bit rusty with random heroes (as most have new/changed abilities since I have last played in 2009). However there are a few heroes I can still rock and roll with, so I won't hold the team back if we play to win.

Added. :)

Yeah I totally agree with you. The denying takes a little getting used to and the attack animation is a bit different from LoL, but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. :)

Spirit Breaker. So cool. ALSO I played a game where something involving apparently OP as Fuck Ursa and the Skeleton King vamp aura got an enemy Roshan kill 60 seconds into the fucking match, then Ursa was 4-0 by four minutes. Not happy about that game.

Man, whoever recommended to use Windrunner as a beginner hero is just fail. As an Int hero she is a bit confusing to itemize, so instead I decided to give Drow Archer a try. Ohhhhhh boy she is a MUCH better newbie hero to learn. I can pretty much own bots with her 100% of the time.

So yeah, use Drow Archer as your beginner hero. :)

WR is more of a support than a damage hero, I prefer to not skill up her ult and go for net and arrow first, and get a sheep stick.

If your looking for an easy Int hero to learn I would recommend either Lich or Lion, they are fairly easy to pick up and the items are fairly simple.

The funny thing is that WR is listed as a ganker hero. Weird. But yeah I've read strategies about getting her ult last, which didn't really help me much. I still stand by Drow Archer being an excellent beginner hero just because she really only has ONE ability: frost arrow (Q).

Yeah it took me a while to get used to the denying and all of the different shops. Once you get used to it though you'll find it to be a much better game than LoL. Just don't get discouraged!

So I just got a Beta invite and man, it's so weird but pretty interesting. I rarely played Dota in WC3 so it's a huge change up from LoL to this (which I actually do play).

Anybody new have it and want to play? I'm fairly terrible, but I play supports so I don't hurt the team much

I loved LYCANTHROPE there! One of the best heroes in DOTA and also in DOTA2. Many fellows have been playing already DOTA2 but I myself is still waiting for a beta key. Hope you guys could invite me. I've heard that those who do have beta keys could invite 1 friend for a beta key. Am I hearing it right? Have you experienced inviting?

And also I watched the Na'Vi VS. EHome final game of The International DOTA 2 Championships which makes me more craving for having a beta key. Have you watched it guys?

PS.

I love the voice of PUCK there! HAHA! XD

Anyone playing this? Strange that this thread has been dead. This has been my game of 2013 so far. Even spent $10 on the compendium.
