Have about 350 games played so far. The roster is still missing quite a few heroes.
I played DotA on WC3 for 3 or so years back in the day, and have played league since launch.

So,it's exactly like LoL?Dota2 is defiantly a fantastic game for old dota players, but for new players to the MOBA concept it is very difficult to pick up. Many people who come from only a LoL background do not do so good in dota. It has several advanced concepts that are just confusing for new players. Also the community is more elitist on this sense, and will bash on newer players who feed or play wrong. And they have a good reason to, if one person sucks the whole team is held back.
Overall great game, do your research and play against bots for awhile.

This is why I skipped out on LoL after playing way too much DotA.
My co-workers ask why I don't play LoL if I enjoyed DotA so much, "It's like the same game, made by the same people."
NOPE. LoL has no defense, which is why it is not called DEFENSE of the Ancients.

Granted I am a bit rusty with random heroes (as most have new/changed abilities since I have last played in 2009). However there are a few heroes I can still rock and roll with, so I won't hold the team back if we play to win.

Man, whoever recommended to use Windrunner as a beginner hero is just fail. As an Int hero she is a bit confusing to itemize, so instead I decided to give Drow Archer a try. Ohhhhhh boy she is a MUCH better newbie hero to learn. I can pretty much own bots with her 100% of the time.
So yeah, use Drow Archer as your beginner hero.

WR is more of a support than a damage hero, I prefer to not skill up her ult and go for net and arrow first, and get a sheep stick.
If your looking for an easy Int hero to learn I would recommend either Lich or Lion, they are fairly easy to pick up and the items are fairly simple.
