Don't know if you played the original Resistance, but they changed a lot of the gameplay and presentation from the first one. This game was developed by different people than Resistance: Fall of Man (even though the company was still Insomniac) as was Resistance 3, so each title has a different "feel" to it while taking place in the same universe. I personally enjoyed the second one once I got used to the new mechanics and controller layout.

And don't stay too long in the water. Those one hit kill aquatic beasts had me raging at the television at times.
 
I didn't like Resistance 2. What was cool about 1 was how you had all of these guns at the same time while 2 had a small limit of guns you could carry. Plus 1 had the co-op for the full campaign.
