I just found out about this place recently, they have an awesome selection of classic games (pretty much every system from NES on the current day), though their prices on old games are a bit steep.

http://www.thescoreonline.com/

They have buy 2 get 1 free sales periodically that make their prices a lot more bearable.

If you buy a video game system there, you also get buy 2 get 1 free on all games/accessories for that system at the time of purchase.

They also repair 360s with red rings of death and will replace dead batteries in old cartridge games.

The Score is having a big Valentine's Weekend Sale! Some great deals can be had starting tomorrow and continuing through Valentine's Day (Tuesday, 2/14).

- Buy 1, get 1 free on all retro games
- Buy 2, get 1 free on all used current-gen games
- Variety of deals involving Skylanders figures
- Variety of deals involving Score party and event packages
- Buy any PSP, get a new or used PSP game free
- Pre-order any PlayStation Vita model before Tuesday, get half off any used game in the store

Yeah I don't like buying from them without a sale, but when they have one, I usually come out with a good deal:

Thank you, B1G1 free!

I went last Friday and checked it out and I can see what you mean about waiting till a sale. I was floored by some of the prices. Have you went into Game Trader in Rivergate?

The Score's current-gen prices I have found to be way lower than GS or other places, even the other independents in the greater Nashville area.

The retro prices can be high on some items I've seen, but in their defense, even with these their Scorepoints loyalty program makes it reasonable. Look at that next time you go in there or on their website - very interesting and good program with actually good rewards.

The guys there are awesome as well. Way better than Game Trader, which I've also been in. There isn't any comparison.

The Score will have another location (in the Green Hills area) sometime in the near future which'll make it easier for me to shop there, but still, worth the trip.

The Score is having a "Leap Year" sale ending tonight at 10 PM!

-- 29% off all used games, including all retro games
-- 29% off Early-Bird General Admission passes to ScoreCon 2 (Saturday, May 19 at Rocketown)
-- 29% off new Charcoal Grey 2012 Score T-Shirts
-- 29% off pre-orders of Score Founder Bradley Metrock’s upcoming book, “Video Games and the Family” (regular retail price $19.99)
-- $2.90 off all new games
-- $2.90 off all Skylanders figures; $29.99 off Skylander starter packs ($40 instead of $69.99)
-- $29.99 off all small group Score party packages (Arena Plan; Arena Plan Plus)
-- 29% off all large group Score party packages (Gamer Plan, Gamer Plan Plus, Tournament Plan, Lock-In Plan)

I think I may take advantage of the 30% off used games to pickup some stuff I left behind during the Valentines B1G1 free sale.

Yeah, it's mainly The Score's retro games that are way overpriced. Their current generation stuff is pretty reasonably priced.

McKay Books and The Great Escape (both on Charlotte Pike) are my favorite places in Nashville to go for retro games. Though I think McKay Books literally just closed yesterday so they can move the store to a better location.

For example:

Goldeneye 007 -- $7 at McKay Books, $28 at The Score

Resident Evil 3 -- $18 at McKay Books, $28 at The Score

Wayne Gretzky 98 -- $1 complete at Great Escape, $5 for a loose cart at The Score

I could go on, but those are just a few recent examples I noticed.

I like Game Galaxy inside the Hickory Hollow Mall, but while their prices are good, the selection is pretty small. It's known more for being an arcade than a game store.

Game Trader, I have not visited in many many years. I remember buying a N64 Expansion Pack from them when Perfect Dark came out. That was my most-recent visit haha.

Thanks for posting about their sale - I must've missed that. I'll be heading over there tonight after dinner to pick up a couple of things.

I had an in-depth conversation one random day with the owner, who happened to be in there, about how they price stuff. He said basically the same thing you did - you can often find games for cheaper online or other places, but the owner places a pretty high priority on selection. It's part of their whole thing to have a wide variety of games, and they've got some sort of algorithm or model or something where they know pretty well what their most popular games are, in Williamson County, and how they move at certain prices. It's actually pretty sophisticated stuff, I was impressed.

They also emphasize service, which is obviously a cost, and also have an interesting kind of mentality where they'll negotiate with people they seem to like. I've also seen them ask one customer, who was being an idiot, to leave the premises and not return.

The owner didn't seem to mind some games were cheaper other places - he mentioned some anecdotes where people gravitated back to The Score, both on the retro side as well as with current gen, because they were unhappy with the results from buying "cheaper" other places.

I think they've got a great business, myself. But you're right, McKay's isn't bad either for many things. I picked up a couple of books there last time I was there.

Yep, The Score easily trumps all other Nashville stores when it comes to pure selection. Especially for older games. Only McKay Books comes close, but they are light on SNES/Genesis games by comparison.

You just have to wait it out for a sale at The Score if you want to get a good deal on retro stuff.

Thankfully, they've had two sales this month -- the B1G1 free deal on Valentines Day, and the 29% off sale today!

There's a "Peyton Manning" sale going on this weekend at The Score lol

(this Friday - Sunday)

18% off all games
18% off all Scorecon 2 passes

Nothing amazing, but I may pick up some of the under $10 games I've left behind on previous visits.

They have a pretty darn good selection of Gamecube games there.

Kind of a bummer that you have to be a Scorecon ticket holder to get the most out of it.
I went last Friday and checked it out and I can see what you mean about waiting till a sale. I was floored by some of the prices. Have you went into Game Trader in Rivergate?
You suck for never telling me about this place. If you did and I wasn't paying attention, still your fault for not getting my attention...

Kind of off-topic, but I heard Hickory Hollow Mall is making all of its tenants leave by the end of the month.

The means the awesome Game Galaxy arcade/game shop is moving to Huntsville, AL if they can't find a local spot to move to by June 29th.

I just saw the special deal this weekend on their facebook page:

Buy 2, get 1 free at The Score on all used games and accessories.

So the original owner recently sold the store and it is under new management now.

The changes so far are for the worse.

The score points customer rewards program has gone away.

Trade in values have dramatically decreased.

Prices on retro games have skyrocketed. Just a few absurdities from my first visit since the change over:

Mario Kart Double Dash -- $48

Super Smash Bros -- $62

Tecmo Super Bowl -- $28

Super Mario All Stars -- $28

Mario Party 2 -- $52

On average, pretty much every retro game in the store is priced $20-$30 higher than what you could pay online.

After today's visit, I am finished as a Score customer. Good luck to the new owners.

They now are in Murfreesboro, and seem to be doing okay. Still overpriced.on retro games last.time I went, but reasonable prices on current Gen stuff.
