I'm currently playing Final Fantasy IV TCC and am hoping to play another RPG after that. I was wondering what the best RPG is in terms of story and is Vita compatible?

I've actually read through that entire thread already. Unfortunately, no one has asked a similar question, or at least I did not feel like I got my answer by reading the thread. I registered a week ago, but have not had my account activated as of yet. There seems to be a lot of good games listed, but not enough specific information for me to make a decision.

I'm assuming if you like playing through FFIV, then you'll enjoy more traditional, JRPG stories. In that case, I recommend Trails in the Sky. It's a very enjoyable adventure with likeable characters, well-paced story, and a great ending. The music alone makes it worth recommending. Only $20 on PSN and I'm sure it looks great on that Vita screen.

I'm a huge fan of Jeanne D'Arc, which is on the "tested" list. It's the only PSP RPG I've run through more than once and I'd LOVE to see a remake. I'm not a huge fan of paying for it again (I never bought a digital copy), but I'm sure I will once my wallet recovers from the initial Vita investment... and Motorstorm RC (PS3)... and Journey... and probably Escape Plan...
Corpse Party is great.

It's not an RPG though.
This is the one I went for also. I've only played an hour or so of it though so far so can't really say anything about it.

I'd recommend Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep but unfortunately that was never released on PSN.

My second choice would've been PoPoLoCrois but I just checked and it turns out that was never released on PSN either.

Which leaves me with Breath of Fire III which was only released on the EU PSN, so assuming you're from the States you probably won't wanna buy it because of how much of a pain it is to switch accounts on the Vita.

Which leaves me with absolutely nothing I find particularly worthwhile to play for the story -- sorry dude.

I'm going to keep a track on this thread. What I'd like to know is how are these looking on the vita? The two psp games I tried on the vita were blurry. This system demands a good rpg though and was a poor launch without having one.

Did you tweak any of the filter settings? I played 3rd Birthday and it looked fine.

I decided to purchase Lunar Silver Star Harmony and I've been enjoying it quite a bit. I never played through the original to completion and this seems to be the best version available; looks great on the Vita's screen to boot.

Story is decent in P3P, but the link and fusion mechanisms steal the show. I am going to buy Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky later today as I've heard great things about it.

Can someone explain the Persona games to me? From the videos and stuff I have seen, the games seem a bit weird, sort of like a weird Anime, but I could be totally off.

Nope you got it.

Both Hexyz Force, and Crimson Gem Saga are great games, but they're currently $29.99, and they tend to go on sale quite often so just wait. Sadly, Kingdom hearts BBS is not on PSN (almost all of the SEnix games are physical only), but FFT is on there, and that remake is pretty great. I wish they would put FF I and II on there, because those remakes are really good. The Star Ocean remakes are also great, too bad they're not on the PSN either. I understand why Squeenix did it.

I bought Army Corps of Hell hoping for a cool story, but that game totally dropped the ball. Plus, it made me car-sick during an eight hour bus ride.

But I've heard great things about Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, so I'm going to download that for the bus ride back to college. Hopefully it won't be too nauseating.

This post is a lie. CGS was decent at best, and Hexyz Force was total crap.
I bought LoH: Trails in the Sky today and played for about two hours. So far, so good.
Yeah, that looks like the one I am leaning towards unless Sony updates the Vita with PS1 compatibility before I finish FFIV. In that case I will probably go straight to FFVII since i've never played it.

I have been considering this game and watched a bunch of Let's Play footage. It really does look appealing to the older generation of RPG fans. I would love to have a game such as this be released on the Vita with "up-to-date" graphics. Not necessarily Skyrim-grade graphics, but it would still be very welcome.

One thing that would seriously bring this to light would be if the system didn't get hacked too fast. Let the console live for a bit without pirating every little thing and developers might be willing to give it a shot. *crosses fingers*

Yeah, I bought it yesterday and played around 2 hours as well. So far the characters are likable and the combat system is pretty solid. Look forward to putting in more time.

That link reminded me of two other good games, Lunar SSS, and Riviera. What genius at SE decided to put a large majority of it's games in the EU PSN but not the american?
i hope you guys are right about Jean D'arc. just got it from newegg for $10 free shipping.
I hope you realize that it'll ONLY work on a PSP because it's a UMD, not a digital version. Only digital downloads from the PSN Store can be transferred to a Vita.

Yup, I hope he doesn't open it so it can be returned. You can also get digital downloads or at least the codes via Gamestop as well. I noticed some of the games are a bit cheaper there as well.

lol yeah im well aware of that its for my PSP even thought im commenting in the vita section i currently dont own one but was interested in the topic of PSP RPG's.

Cool. Just wanted to make sure. $10 is money well spent on that. I paid full retail as my first PSP game and it's the one I played most.

I can't handle the required Monster Hunter Claw Grip® from the PSP version. That'll be the deciding factor for me when a Vita version drops.

If you like SRPG, then Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together is a great game. A lot of depth and great story. Worth the $19.99 asking price IMO.

I know I have plenty to play, but I sure wish they had released an RPG. How well does Monster Hunter run?

Man, they would have made a fortune from me if I could have converted my PSP backlog to the Vita.
MHFU runs great on the Vita from what I've seen. And being able to map the second analog stick is pure win.
Can you clarify this... does it mean I won't have to use the MH Claw Grip? If someone can verify this, it'll be enough for me to buy it ASAP. I loved the whole concept, but controlling that damned camera was crap. I can't believe how popular MH is overseas the way it is now.

It's the Japanese version, but it clearly shows you can map the second analog stick ;)

If you push down on the touchscreen for a few seconds while playing any PSP game, you'll bring up a menu where you can access some graphical options and the option to remap the d-pad, face buttons, or left analog stick to the right stick depending on how the game used the camera.

Yup, I finished watching the video Syn posted. While I've got plenty of games I am getting sucked into now, if I end up branching out I may snag the PSP version in a month or two if we haven't heard anything else about a Vita version.

Now, if they require the Vita version to develop MH Clawhand in order to keep with tradition, I'm out.
