I've been thinking it would be good to have a Gamersgate thread that would include multiple deals. It seems best to focus on the games that can activate on Steam, but other great deals could be posted too. If people show interest, I can expand to include more details on Gamersgate.
I'm not a rep or affiliated in any way with Gamersgate, I've just gotten some great deals recently and think it would be nice to have a central location.
I've made this a wiki-post so please feel free to edit.
Past deals:
3/25 Red Faction: Armageddon: $4.99
3/28 Kane & Lynch: Dog Days $3.74
3/31 Empire: Total War $4.99
FAQ (here to make it easy to edit)
What is Gamersgate?
Gamersgate is a European based (Sweden) PC direct download store.
It can be reached at http://www.gamersgate.com/
How does it work?
Gamersgate does not feature a client like Steam. In order to download games, you download an executable file. You run that file and it downloads the game and installs it. It seems that you must have internet access to check in with gamersgate the first time you install a game, but after that you can play "off-line"
What is the deal with Gamersgate and Steam?
Some of the games Gamersgate sells are Steamworks. Once you purchase, you can go into your inventory and retrieve a Steam key. Activate this key in Steam and you own the game there.
How can you pay?
Gamersgate accepts Paypal. It also accepts credit cards through "Moneybookers". I have not been able to get Moneybookers to work for me, so any details from others would be appreciated.
Gamersgate also has "blue coins." 10 blue coins = 1 cent. To buy a $5.00 game, you need 5000 blue coins. You can buy blue coins for face value, earn them for buying games with other payment sources, and also earn coins for things like rating games, writing reviews, and helping other users. Check the site for more details.
What is the IGN discount?
At least in February, IGN Prime included a code for a 15% discount (supposedly permanent) on all games at Gamersgate. So far, this has stacked with all sales prices. I'm not sure if the code is still a perk for IGN Prime.
How long do deals last?
In the few months I've been following Gamersgate, its seems they have a daily deal (not necessarily a Steam-activated game), a weekly deal centered around a theme or publisher, and a weekend deal. Most daily deals start at 3 am Eastern on one day and end at 3am eastern on the next day.
