CAGiversary!
well guys 2011 was only a few months ago and there are already a bunch of great games out in the first few months in 2012, what is the best game you have played in 2011/2012 ?

panzer: I have NO idea, but I'll answer anyway...

In 2012, probably Bayonetta, with an honorable mention for Tropico 4.

2011: Picross 3D

Let's see... I've played five games that came out in 2011, one of which is a remake and another one I haven't beaten yet. Bayonetta is still better than any of those.

I haven't bought any 2012 releases, and probably won't until the next big Steam sale (if Torchlight 2 is out by then).

shit's expensive, ive missed a lot of key games that may be rightful contenders.

so that being said, Skyward Sword was probably my #1 last year, and Street Fighter X Tekken my favorite so far in 2012.
I think I've only played three games that came out in 2011, and one of them I haven't beaten yet.

Baldur's Gate 2 is my game of 2012sofar. It was partially a joke answer because my knee-jerk reponse to all best/worst threads is to make a joke answer, but it's still true.

And yes, I have played Mass Effect 3. It was good. But Baldur's Gate 2 is still the best thing Bioware ever did. And it's still the best game I've played in 2012.

And Planescape Torment is still better, but I don't plan to replay that until August at the very earliest.

Asking such a question this early into the year is a bit... silly. Maybe that's why the OP included 2011? (And whoops, edited my post as you were quoting it, OP; sorry about that.)

Out of those games released in the past 15 months which I've played, I liked Tropico 4 the best, but hot new releases are rarely of concern thanks to my backlog and me being a cheapass. Then there's loving certain older games a helluva lot and replaying them (not Baldur's Gate 2 for me, though, sorry!).

fuck, I don't even remember much of what I played in 2011. I remember one of the guys I worked with brought his laptop to work and we took turns playing the original X-Com on days off. We had some fog days where we couldn't get the helicopter flying, so there was a lot of fucking X-Com going on there. We named all the soldiers after the other people we were working/had worked with. We almost ran out of names.

Good shit.
Read the bit you quoted, and then read the quoted comment again.
i see dude, i was just curious.

Best game I played in 2011: Super Mario 3D Land

Best Old game I played in 2012: Super Metroid

Best New game I played in 2012: Kid Icarus Uprising

mario 3d was up there for me to, kid icarus is a good game, great graphics, but was hoping to be a little better. the controlls messed it up from becoming a realy realy good game. but still i good game for 3ds.

Mass Effect 3.

Still lots of stuff I need to play like Skyrim etc. though. Been busy and not gaming much the past month or two.
The correct answer for 2011 is either Portal 2 or Batman. Jesus Christ people.
Batman wouldn't be the right answer in a mediocre year, let alone a decent one.

Boooooooo!!!!!

Saint's Row 3. While it didn't have nearly enough stuff to do after you finished the main game(and are virtually immortal), it was my top game of late last year. I was vaguely tempted to actually try getting 100% on the game, but I quit outta boredom/frustration when I couldn't figure out which bridges or other crap I hadn't barnstormed with the jumpjet.

2011 - Skyrim followed by Dead Space 2 and Dark Souls
2012 - Mass Effect 3. Didn't play Kingdom of Amalur yet and I'm sure the Witcher 2 can give it a run for It's money, but so far in the first half of 2012 I think ME3 is the clear winner even with the ending needing a bit of calibrations.

agreed, thats the only game i ever wanted to try and finish 100% but after 22 hours of game play i was done lol.
You clearly didn't play it enough. If you did, you wouldn't be saying that.
Or it could be that his opinion is different from yours?

Last year it was probably Skyrim.

This year its Tales of Graces f cause I am a JRPG junkie. Mass Effect 3 was pretty good also, but I think I liked 1 and 2 better.

So far I would have to say;
Catherine
Bayonetta
Shadows of the Damned
Red Faction Armageddon ( I love destroying stuff lol )
Portal 2
Forza 4
Enslaved ( really wish this would get a sequel )

Yeah 2011 is really a tough year, and I haven't played either of those games yet (own Portal 2, just in back log and want to play co-op with the wife). Throw in Ghost Trick and Mario Land. Christ. 2011 might have been one of the best years in a long time, I doubt 2012 will come close in terms of quality.

I'm playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution right now to. Damn good game.

For 2011 - Dark Souls

For 2012 - Dark Souls

For 2013 - Dark Souls

Etc...

Nothing comes close to topping such an amazing game, I cant even look at skyrim seriously after playing dark souls, I played and beat Mass Effect 3 and Dark Souls measly 15 seconds of an ending is intensely more satisfying than playing 20 hours of ME3.

The amount of content within Dark Souls is staggering, I beat the game and ventured on to New Game+ and was amazed at how much more engaging and addicting this game is when it comes to the online aspect, the covenants expand the replayability ten-fold, the online co-op and PVP aspects is something I've never seen in any game before.

Praise the sun.

Have you played Red Faction Guerrilla already? To me, that had more fun factor for destroying stuff to it than Armageddon did.

But if you wanna go around just obliterating stuff, get Mercenaries 2. Nothing quite says destruction like using a nuclear bunker buster on whole city blocks of one of the enemy factions' main cities.

I just recently ordered Guerrilla but it hasn't came in the mail yet. I've heard it's just as awesome or better than Armageddon so I jumped right on it. I do own and have played a little bit of Mercenaries 2 but I haven't got far enough to get the awesome weapons and etc. I literally played it for around 5-10min and put it down and ever since it's drifted into my backlog ( Which is huge now lol) I liked the game, it's just every time I'm ready to play it I have to quit and do something else. Also, at the time I picked up Just Cause 2 with it which didn't help the matter lol :D

For me it was probably Infamous 2 for 2011. Not sure yet for 2012.
