Is there a way to disable the "Preview Pane"

I'm not sure how else to describe it, but when I'm in a forum, viewing a list of threads, any time I scroll over one a tan "preview pane" pops up, showing the first 15 or so words in the 1st post within that page.

Is there any way to disable this?
