Attributed to Lars Buttler, CEO of Trion, developer/publisher of Rift:
Do you guys agree with his assessment of the issues with SWTOR?
For those that have played both, has Rift really had more significant content updates?
Of course, SWTOR hasn't been out 6 months yet, while Rift has been out 15 months.
"'In the case of Star Wars, I don't think the business model was necessarily the issue, but I think it was content updates, and what to do in the game, and how you can play it without it becoming repetitive.'
He points to the fact that Trion's Rift gets frequent significant content updates, whereas The Old Republic's consumers are left wanting. "
I've played both extensively and the Rift guy is correct. They update their game so often it's almost ridiculous. New massive events every month or two. New areas and dungeons every month or two. Constant rebalances and small upgrades every couple of weeks. Bug fixes weekly.
Star wars adds a warfront and a flashpoint and fixed a few things and tried to call it the biggest free update in mmo history. Rift added an entire island with multiple dungeons, quests, bosses, and other things. I don't even want to go into what Eve updates for free.
