Normally $3.99, Nintendo has put the original Super Mario Land for GB on sale on the 3DS' eShop for $2.99 after the Nintendo Direct event last night. I don't think anything else was put on sale, but let me know if something else dropped.

I believe this is also the first Nintendo sale on any of their digital storefronts, so I'm hoping that they will do this more often with better sales.

There was a sale on some Sega titles on the Wii's Virtual Console back in December of 2009.

I know, as I'm the one that posted that sale here way back when. I'm talking about Nintendo itself having a sale on their games on any of their digital platforms since this is their first.
How much was it before? I just bought it last week. :(
Read the OP. It's the second word of the post. ;)

I'll DL this on my kids 3DS to support the sale, even though he played it on mine and didn't care for it. Another history lesson was given at that point..

Nintendo put something on sale? I hope this is a short game, as I expect the world to end any minute now ;)

I remember this back in the day. It is pretty short, only 5 levels if I remember and easily finished in one sitting. But those were the days when a backlog was unknown to me, and I would play through it repeatedly in all its monochrome glory. It has a slightly different feel than most mario games.
Please don't buy this. It's incredibly dated, and will ruin ANY nostalgia you have for this game.
It was terrible back then. SML2 is the proper effort.

Hardcore Mario fan here...

This is the worst conventional Mario game ever made. This "sale" is for nostalgia only.

And yes, the follow up to this game was infinitely better.

It takes about half an hour to play through it, then it repeats itself on a harder mode. Might be nostalgia glasses, but I still love it. I did own it when it first came out though.

Actually decided to play through it on a modded PSP last month and I'll have to parrot everyone else, it hasn't aged well at all, and the sequel is much better.

I bought this last year and I'd agree to an extent. My nostalgia for it wasn't dampened, but I wasn't looking back at it with rose colored glasses. I remembered it just how it was. When I played it last year it hadn't changed a bit from what I remembered.

It's not a bad game by any stretch, but if you have fond memories of it being something more then a really stripped down Mario game that is rough graphic and control wise then you'll be in for a disappointment.

I still play it here and there.

While its not a bad game, it is pretty dated. It might be worth it for someone who never played the sub and plane levels.
SML is only $2.99 till the 24th. There's also a list/trailer for 3DS eShop titles coming out soon.
what games are coming soon

SUCKS you cant transfer DSI XL to 3ds bucks

Full list here.

I'd bite on this maybe if it was $1.99...all Gameboy VC releases should be $1.99 to start with anyways...

I think to get a half an hour out of it you'd have to speed run it, according to my 3DS Activity log it took me 2 hours & 14 minutes to beat. This game doesn't have any branching paths or anything so I didn't do anything to extend the length of the game.

It's not that amazing, but I don't think it's aged any worse than the NES Mario games. The NES games are better, but they were always better so I don't think it's aged that bad. The save feature is nice, I could never get past the third boss when I was a kid playing it on my GB Pocket, so it was nice to actually beat the game now with the VC save feature.

For $3 I don't regret the 2 hour nostalgia trip, and finally getting some closure by making it to the credits.

It sounds like sales might be a regular thing going by the "Game of the Weekend" tag that SML has on it on the shop. That implies that there will be more of them.

I loved this game growing up. I remember playing it on long car rides, and then just letting the ending credit music play forever as my parents drove......

However, I think I'll pass this by...and let my childhood memories stay untainted. Plus if I reeeaally felt like playing it I could pull out my original cart and the gamecube gameboy player.

lol wow, what timing. I just bought it for $3.99 the night before

It plays like a Mario game would on a TI-88 calculator, but it's an important piece of Nintendo's history and absolutely worth it for $3.
SML is one of the most bizarre "traditional" Mario games there are. And one of the worst.
Yeah I have the original cart and was never realy a fan. SML2 on the other hand is incredible.

this sale is probably just "testing the waters" to see if the increase in sales is substantial enough to do it on a regular basis...

I picked it up as soon as I saw it. Never played it before, but so far I like it.

You guys have to realize that for its time, it was awesome

A portable Mario game in 1989 that played similar to the NES games was interesting.

Thats because it wasn't created by Miyamoto and his normal Mario team. In fairness for an early GB title, it was better than most and the best handheld platform game at that time..

That's awesome Nintendo's finally running sales on their digital product but ever since Club Nintendo started offering games for coins does anyone else tend to avoid spending your eShop credit on Nintendo products when they may be available for coins?

I purchased and downloaded Mario Land. I beat this sucker in one sitting, haha. Was well worth the 3ish bucks in my opinion. Made me remember playing this as a kid. I'll keep buying these couple dollar games if they keep releasing!

The nintendo site mentions that Zelda DX is supposed to be on sale along with a few other games. Anyone know whats going on with that?
