Anyone pick this up yet? I bought it as party of BBY B2G1 and believe it or not I'm in love with it!

I'm a pretty big Spider-Man fanboy but with that out of the way, IMO it has a great story, respectable graphics, a fun lineup of baddies, collectibles that actually matter, and a very aerial and acrobatic fighting system (similar to Arkham City). This isn't a perfect game by any means and not nearly as good as Spider-Man 2 way back on PS2 but it definitely breaks the chain of mediocre Spider-Man games.

If anyone wants a full list of likes and dislikes let me know, I actually already beat it and am working towards finishing off the last few achievements. One of my favorite parts are the comic books scattered around NYC. Instead of just unlocking cover art or having collectibles strictly for the sake of collecting; every time you collect a certain number it unlocks a fully readable digital comic book from Spider-Man's history. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Reviews overall are usually about 7/8's out of 10 and 3 out of 5's. A few sites bashed it way too much and brought it's overall score to around a 72%. It felt very Arkham City / Captain America: Super Solider'ish to me. Regardless, if you like Spider-Man and want to continue the story from the new movie give it a whirl.

I would really appreciate a list of likes and dislikes, I'm glad to see that the game's fun. Was thinking about picking it up, might as well hop to it now.

I've been thinking about picking it up in the BB B2G1 sale, too, but I'm not sure what else I'd grab with it. The idea of collecting pages and unlocking full comics to read does sound very cool. I read Justin McElroy's review, and he mentioned that there are 700 pages to collect

Just curious- how many of the pages have you found so far?

I'm skeptical, I think Beenox has done a terrible job with Spider-Man, I absolutely hated the last 2 games. This one is getting better reviews though, and most are calling it a shameless Batman clone, which I'm totally ok with.

I'm at work so I won't write the big list until later tonight, but I've collected around 400 pages leisurely. Meaning when I'm swinging around in between missions and I see one pop up I'll make my way over and grab it. After 500 collected the rest will show up on your map so it's not that big of a pain.

I'd like to hear you likes and dislikes as well. The web swinging through the city looks really fun but im going to wait for a big price drop before I get this.

I would just like to add that I think this game is a blast as well. They definitely took a page from the Arkham games and that's a very good thing.

I rented and thought it was great. I wasn't a huge fan of the story so far, but I thought it played well. I think combat is better than the last few games, free roam is fun with minor side missions that are pretty easy and just an excuse to get some quick XP. I ended up playing most of the game in the Scarlet Spider outfit because Kaine is bad ass. :)

Okay sorry it took so long, was at the Zelda Symphony at Comic-Con last night (/nerdbragging).

Positives

+ Collecting comic pages unlocks real digital comics such as Spider-Man #1 and other first appearances from Black Cat, Rhino, mainly the bosses in the game.
+ It's pretty fun swinging through NYC. Spider-Man will auto adjust depending on what's in front of you. AKA if your'e coming upon a tall building he'll adjust so you sore over it instead of smack into the side or having to wall climb it messing up your...'style'. Basically, it's just a fun and seamless experience.
+ Combat is very acrobatic and there are enough special 'finishes' that I never got too bored with them. It can also be slightly challenging because just like in Arkham City, you can be faced with several enemies at once (with guns) that will kill you if you don't play it stealthily.
+ The story is pretty good IMO. It flows with the movie and makes sense when you look at it overall. It does not at all follow the comics though at all so if you're a stickler for details you'll probably hate it.
+ The available suits are awesome! This could be my fanboy coming out but it was so cool to fight in a bunch of his suits. Black suit, new movie black suit, the default one, and a ton more that I can't remember the names of.
+ Good variation of the levels. You'll have some in Oscorp, then some outside, then some in a bank, etc. etc.

Negatives

- The rescue missions are annoying and pretty much just busy work. The people always have the same stupid one liners that they spit out.
- Spider-Mans upgrades are cool, but I rarely used any of his skills considering they're simply not needed. Overall the game is pretty easy, I played on normal and only died like 3-4 times.
- Although it's cool to see enemies like The Rhino and Vermin, it doesn't portray their human side at all (yet when you read their bio it describes it in detail). I know that Rhino was just some C list thug that got an experiment forced on him, but I wish they would have mentioned it in some way instead of completely leaving it out.
- You can't web crawl fast. It's insanely annoying.
- Little things like when he shoots webs, sometimes it doesn't connect to anything (like you can swing through central park). You can't jump on cars while their driving because they'll just stop. There are car chase missions and the bad guys cars are always 100% identical and the same. There's only 1 model for it, kinda stupid.

I'll list more if I remember any big ones. Basically though overall it was a fun, surprising experience. After playing Web of Shadows I was pretty much ready to shun any future Spider-Man games but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

This game's story is where the movie left off which is cool. It's a pretty badass game surprised how much I like it.

I beat it today and I had a surprisingly large number of complaints when all was said and done.

Cons
-The camera missions hinting at baddies are pretty fucking lame.
-They try really hard to make the villains in the game seem scary and that just does not jive well with Spidey's rogues gallery. Who the fuck would be scared of Vermin?
-The last couple of story missions in the game suck.
Getting your powers taken away was one of the most fucking frustrating parts of any game I've ever played and it totally took me out of the game.
-The entire tone of the game feels wrong. It's a good game, but it does NOT feel like a Spider-Man game at all. It really feels like they just made a carbon copy of the Arkham games.
-What the fuck is up with Spider-Man in this game? He doesn't seem to care very much at all that he could've
crippled the fuck out of Gwen with that "cure" Connors cooks up.
-Too many black costumes. Really wish the Spider-Armor or original Scarlet Spider costume had been included.
-Why the fuck does this game have so many disc authorization failures? I've had it happen 4 times now.
-Invisible walls will bounce you all over New York City if you bump into them.
-Okay, this is a minor one... But why can I no longer kill Spidey by jumping off of a really high building? That was one of my favorite things to do in Spider-Man 2.

Arkham Asylum / City are awesome games and I don't mind one bit that Spidey borrowed their formula. People don't complain that Saints Row borrows from GTA. It works great with a Spider-Man game (call me crazy but I enjoyed the Captain America game too which is similar play style).

I'm not saying its perfect though, but I don't mind the similarities at all.

Also, I never once had a disc failure or ran into an invisible wall. Around the outskirts of the map you can't swing and just end up falling into the water then jumping right back out.

I wouldn't have had a problem with it if it wasn't for them harping the tone of Asylum/City. It didn't feel like a Spider-man game at all. I have no issue with them using the same gameplay as the Batman games, they just shouldn't have used the same tone. I also really loved Captain America, btw. Really hope the next Cap game is as good.

CaptainJoel, Scarlet spider costume is in game. Check out the IGN guide. Looks great also, but no damage

In love with a Spider Man game of any recent time doesn't sound believable! In any case, I can't get over the fact that all the somewhat recent Spider Man games seem to revolve around swinging around the city for most of the time (gets boring) and fighting 100 enemies with relative ease, jumping from person to person with attacks (also gets boring). Videos don't seem to change my mind that the Amazing Spider Man is any different then that.

I'll admit there isn't much to a Spider Man game besides that, but that is exactly why I never considered most of the games in the series to be anything.
He's talkling about the original one, like in my avatar pic
Yeah, it would have made my dreams come true to swing around in Ben Reilly's Scarlet Spider costume. Hopefully they add it as DLC later.

Big warning to anybody playing this game. I lost my save file completely off my Xbox crashed while it was saving. Had to start over from the beginning. I believe I was
escaping Oscorp tower after bringing the 1st serum to Gwen Stacy
. Back up your save files if you don't want to start over.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. The combat did feel a bit stale, however if you are just a huge Spider-Man fan like I am, it wasn't too annoying. Also, I personally don't get tired of swinging around NYC :p
