I know Megazell has the freeware version in his megapost, but this is for the PC version based off of the WiiWare remake that came out a few weeks ago.

I've been meaning to post about this for a while now to get this game some attention (I'm SHOCKED to not see anything posted about it here on CAG) and since Spelunky was getting so much love and since La Mulana is so much better (in my own opinion) I had to rectify that, anyway enough of my blathering, onto a game video....

Then onto the official blog site http://la-mulana.com/en/ for screen shots, movies, behind the scenes info, etc.

Next for those kinda interested, but wondering what all the hype is, here's the original PC version translated by our friends at Aeon Genesis. http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=lamulana

By Nigoro's (the developer) own definition the original version is the NES 8-bit style version, while the remake is the SNES 16-bit version.

I've played it for 10 hours and it's freakin' awesome, if you love Metroid style exploration (no randomly generated dungeons here), collecting items, money to buy items, solving puzzles, dying A LOT, finding lots of hidden secrets (and levels) and spending 20-30 hours doing that, then this game is for you.

It's been on my radar for years since I heard of the Wii Ware version and I've been holding out hope that they would release that someday in English, well that never happened, instead we get the next best thing, which is a PC version in English.

Now you ask, enough talk where can I BUY it???

Well right here.

Note the game does have some "quirks" needing to run in admin mode, and the screen resolution is kinda weird too. The game supports full remapping of controls and the Xbox 360 PC pad as well.

It's not super cheap at $15, but I think it's worth every penny, and I won't buy something at full price too much these days. But I felt I needed to support Nigoro and Playism for releasing such an awesome game (just like Cave Story) that we don't get to play so much anymore. They would have gotten more acclaim had they released on XBL or PSN, but hey take what you can get right.

Also there is NO steam version, however more importantly (to me anyway) it's DRM FREE. And only like 148Mb install file (goodness comes in small packages sometimes)

Give it a chance if you like these types of games at all I think you'll really enjoy it. Or if you're still not sure give the freeware version a spin and then decide if the upgraded really awesome version is worth paying a few bucks for, I think you'll make a great decision if you do pick it up.

An awesome indie game, well worth picking up and getting lots of critical acclaim as well.

Looks like a good game, but this seems like something I'd love to play on my DS. I'd chew threw this game if it was on a handheld, but on a PC I not sure I'd ever get past installing it.

Least someone has some interest in it, and I hear ya, I don't like playing games on my PC that much either, even thought I've bought a crap top of Humble Bundle and Gog games in the past few years.

Seriously though, this is a pretty awesome game, and its a shame that more people 1) don't know about it and 2) don't show much interest here in it either, when something like Spelunky gets way too much hype and is not even close to being as cool as this (and is a derivative/based off of elements of La Mulana as well, according to the creator of the Spelunky)

If the devs weren't such a small studio it would have been cool for them to port it to XBL or PSN where it would get proper exposure.

Was thinking about posting it in the deals thread along with some of the other titles that ARE on sale or free on their site, but I think I'd get a lot of flack for it, and it would be a waste of my time to share it with those complaining about no steam version or not cheap enough or not on console....whatever.

I'm just trying to expose this game to those who might not know about it being out there and get more people to play this awesome little gem that finally can be played in english (the remake version I mean) and hope they get to enjoy something I'd thought I'd share with everyone.

It's not that I don't like gaming on my pc, it's just this type of game (most indie/small studio games) are competing for my PC game time with games like skyrim, tf2, l4d, saints's row, dead island ect... and as you except they lose to they bigger budget games. While they may be times I'd rather play a simpler game over a big retail game, the DS takes care of that with out cutting into my computer time.

If it at very-least it scaled to a net book then there would be a chance that I would play it. If tourchlight did it, it seems like more of these idea/small developer games should too, but most don't. Nor do most of these games seem to take advantage of the fact that they are on a computer.

If this comes to a hand-held or droid(post nyko play) I'm sure it would do well, I'd certainly play it. as is I don't think most gamers will get it till it's in one of those indie bundles.

I loved playing La Mulana. I wish them a lot of luck with this new version.

If the remake hits Steam I will be all over it. I may still considering buying it not from Steam at some point. It's not even that I would be buying it for the new fancy graphics, just moreso that the game can run with a decent resolution on my 24 inch monitor.
Wasn't this coming to Steam? Is that still planned?
They said it was WIP, but I think Valve put the kibosh on it, and they wanted to release it sooner rather than later.

I like not having DRM, but hey that's just me.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that, seems playism/nicoro would have to go back and do extra things to get it in line with a Steam release, it's a playable game, but there are some issues and their scalability for resolutions is quite nice, but not perfect, I think mine is set at (lemme look) 1020 x 780, however it goes all the way up to 1900x1200 (if I read it right) so they supported quite high resolution, on a lot of different setups.

Going to start back into it today after my Saint's Row-a-thon is done now.

Been playing this the last week. 6.5 hours in and I've only managed to kill one guardian, which seems really slow. I do like the game, even if my little character controls like a dump truck.

I had meant to restart it after finishing up my Saints-Row-A-Thon, then a little game called Skyrim got in the way, hehe.

I have the 360 windows controller sitting next to the computer waiting to be setup and used to play it again, whenever I get around to it again.

I didn't think he controlled too bad, I hadn't killed any guardians yet, as I was trying to avoid them until I was ready and had bought everything I could get so far, and I was taking my time solving the puzzles I could figure out or was able to solve with what I had available.

Pretty cool little game, and I'm glad more people are playing now. :D
