I know Megazell has the freeware version in his megapost, but this is for the PC version based off of the WiiWare remake that came out a few weeks ago.
I've been meaning to post about this for a while now to get this game some attention (I'm SHOCKED to not see anything posted about it here on CAG) and since Spelunky was getting so much love and since La Mulana is so much better (in my own opinion) I had to rectify that, anyway enough of my blathering, onto a game video....

Then onto the official blog site http://la-mulana.com/en/ for screen shots, movies, behind the scenes info, etc.
Next for those kinda interested, but wondering what all the hype is, here's the original PC version translated by our friends at Aeon Genesis. http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=lamulana
By Nigoro's (the developer) own definition the original version is the NES 8-bit style version, while the remake is the SNES 16-bit version.
I've played it for 10 hours and it's freakin' awesome, if you love Metroid style exploration (no randomly generated dungeons here), collecting items, money to buy items, solving puzzles, dying A LOT, finding lots of hidden secrets (and levels) and spending 20-30 hours doing that, then this game is for you.
It's been on my radar for years since I heard of the Wii Ware version and I've been holding out hope that they would release that someday in English, well that never happened, instead we get the next best thing, which is a PC version in English.
Now you ask, enough talk where can I BUY it???
Well right here.

Note the game does have some "quirks" needing to run in admin mode, and the screen resolution is kinda weird too. The game supports full remapping of controls and the Xbox 360 PC pad as well.
It's not super cheap at $15, but I think it's worth every penny, and I won't buy something at full price too much these days. But I felt I needed to support Nigoro and Playism for releasing such an awesome game (just like Cave Story) that we don't get to play so much anymore. They would have gotten more acclaim had they released on XBL or PSN, but hey take what you can get right.
Also there is NO steam version, however more importantly (to me anyway) it's DRM FREE. And only like 148Mb install file (goodness comes in small packages sometimes)
Give it a chance if you like these types of games at all I think you'll really enjoy it. Or if you're still not sure give the freeware version a spin and then decide if the upgraded really awesome version is worth paying a few bucks for, I think you'll make a great decision if you do pick it up.
An awesome indie game, well worth picking up and getting lots of critical acclaim as well.
