G4 TV is Being Rebranded in 2013 for the "GQ Crowd"

It wasn't the name that killed G4 being kicked off of cable and onto channel 17456464 is what killed them and also only have two original shows while constantly re-airing robocop and ninja warrior didn't help.

One reason why I'm glad to be with DirecTV now is not having to pay for G4. Such a waste of bandwidth that channel has become. RIP ZDNet/TechTV.

God I remember being so stoked when that channel launched, I would watch shit like Icons and Arena all the time, even reruns. How sad it's turned into just another pointless channel.

I used to watch it all the time when Electric Playground and Players would be on. Now it's just cheaters, cops, campus pd non stop. What a waste.

I never cared for this channel. Hopefully they fire all their annoying hosts and dont just put them on other shows. All the 14 year old boys will be sad to hear this news though:(

I used to watch the channel religiously. This was back when it had Judgment Day, G4tv.com, Cinematech, Arena, Icons, Pulse, and the awesomeness that was Portal. When they "merged" with TechTV it was the beginning of the end. They cancelled almost all their original programming and most of the TTV stuff, which was depressing for fans of both channels because in one swoop they ruined two good things.

They still had some good stuff for a while. I enjoyed watching X-play, The Screen Savers (and to a certain degree, Attack of the Show until it turned into Bro-fest), and loved Code Monkeys.

Recently though, as many have pointed out, its just been reruns of Cheaters, Cops, and any other shovelware tv shows they could stick on the network. It was a waste. They could have had a decent niche channel with solid ratings but they wanted to have something beyond their grasp and caused the whole thing to implode. Then instead of trying to fix it, it just became a dumping ground while the idiots who screwed it up in the first place tried to figure out what to do with it.

I knew when Adam and Kevin left that the network was on life support.

I hope a the very least they do something like rerun all the classic shows for one final hurray before the channel turns into another generic mish-mash of existing stations. Most likely though they will just change over to the new format and try to make everyone forget the network ever was.

On the plus side, I met and hung out with many of the hosts of the old shows over the years. They were a very cool bunch. I also made many good friends on their forums and we've stayed friends over the years long after we stopped watching the channel.

So RIP G4. You had something special and blew it.

I stopped caring for this channel a long, long time ago and DirecTV dropping it was the final nail in the coffin for me. It's such a shame because TechTV was absolutely amazing and the intial G4TV seemed like it would be just as awesome. I remember coming home from school and being able to catch X-Play, Electric Playground, Attack of the Show (even before Olivia), and more. I would've been sad 5 years ago, but I couldn't care less right about now. In fact, it really doesn't come as a surprise whatsoever.

You know I am happy to see it's death. It should burn all in hell for what it did to Tech TV.

I stopped caring about G4, the day The Screensavers ended.

When ZDTV came on in the St. Louis area I don't think I watched anything else. After school it was Call for Help then the Screen Savers. On weekends it was GameSpot TV and Fresh Gear. Then it became TechTV. After that I think they kept most the shows and I still watched it. Once it became G4 and they were doing all the changes I slowly stopped watching. The last time I really watched G4 was the first season of Code Monkeys. Just before the second season Charter moved it to digital. I only have the digital on one TV and I have only watched G4 from time to time for the coverage of different events like E3. I have from time to time turned on Attack of the Show only to change it to something else about a minute later.

I just don't see the point in watching a channel that shows 22 hours a day of Cheaters, Cops, Ninja Warrior or some other show then Attack of the Show and maybe one or two other shows.

I think the channel would do fine if they just changed to a Science/Tech channel. Bring back the Tech news, Screen Savers, Fresh Gear, Electric Playground. Keep X-play and Attack of the Show and maybe that I'ts F'n Science. Get rid of everything else as it isn't needed.

EDIT: Also what ever happened to that Alison that was on the channel. I don't know why but she was one of the few women I could stand on it.

Alison Haislip. After G4, she was a minor Twitter celeb through the first season of the singing/talent show The Voice on NBC; they had the brilliant idea that since tweeting is 'the new media' they needed a tweeting host, and that was her gig. Then she did a sitcom for Hulu that garnered absolutely no attention besides "Hey, Hulu has an exclusive series." Now, it seems that she does things for Chris Hardwick's Nerdist site/channel. Still adorable regardless.

Also, she was recently on Wil Wheaton's show Tabletop.

Amen. She and AOTS deserved far better. As for the current news? It's about god damn time they fess up to the truth. G4 stopped being about gaming years ago and those few originals left (Kevin and Sessler) were smart in jumping off a sinking ship.

Note to self, look these pictures up.

I really thought she would have. I would have started watching again if she did.

Here here brother. One of the few things G4 did right was to continue Unscrewed with Martin Sargent, but eventually they screwed that decision up and cancelled it

She thought she had it to but they hired that other chick

About the only thing they were even good for these days was the e3 coverage otherwise they have been shit since the merge, good riddance.

Wow. How does a channel shit the bed so bad? It's a real shame that G4/Tech Tv peaked so long ago. In recent years its been on life support
Maybe those 939,067 subscribers / waiting rooms?
Yeah...but that's not exactly an asset for climbing up in the ratings. Given that not even anywhere close to half of that number will be regular viewers. Pretty much because most of those subscribers are dentists.

Magazines are a real poor indicator of anything. What they should be using as a gauge for how to rebrand is the internet. What they should be doing is making a channel about pictures of cats in odd situations with intentionally misspelled humorous captions.

That's all I watched it for over the past few years. Even their coverage of that was starting to go to shit. Same with the Comic Con coverage.

Not a surprise. I actually stuck with Attack of the Show until Kevin left. I've checked in on the show every now and again, but it's just isn't the same.

It just sucks that G4 botched the merge with Tech TV so badly, all because the head of G4 at the time decided to follow terrible advice. You can see his interview with Kevin on AOTS to see what I'm talking about.

At the very least we have stuff like Revision3, which has some of the Tech TV guys. It just sucks that fans of tech shows went from having a whole channel to a couple of web shows.
