Nintendo Power sends out farewell letters to subscribers

Its sad to see magazines fall. When I was a kid it was "THE" way to find out about games. We would carry the mags around with us and stare at the pictures of the games and read the articles over and over again. I love having the net around but I still subscribe to the physical magazines.
I guess I am holding on to the past, but its a piece of the past I truly don't want to let go of.
I enjoy getting my mags in the mail.

Heh, I remember reading a preview for a game that was to launch with the PS1. I can't remember the game but it was a mech game. I could NOT wait for that game alone. Now I gotta look it up after this. It probably sucked, but back then it was probably fun. If you know what I mean.

Man, this sparked some nostalgia and the op was only about a magazine closing up shop. lol

It was Kileak - The DNA Imperative and it SUCKED. I think my friends hated it more than me though as I remember getting pretty far in it and they couldn't even figure out the first part.
Ah those were the days, Resident Evil scared the crap out of me, Doom had me trying to beat it on the hardest setting and Rage Racer had me trying to perfect my driving in order to beat the game. Man if that game had achievements I would be proud of that.


Anyways, RIP Nintendo Power.

I noticed the Snoop thing as well. I subscribed to Nintendo Power for a few years, and even though I haven't read one in a while, it is pretty sad to see it go.

I forget which game it was but I remember getting the first issue for free, you had to fill out some 3x5 postcard and mail it back. After that I begged and pleaded my parents to buy me a subscription, I think it was around $10-$12 when it originally came out.

These were the days that Nintendo actually gave a crap about it's fan base and used to give out strategy guides with renewals or new subscriptions.

maybe it's because I'm old but I still love paper magazines. Reading on the throne with a tablet or phone is just not the same. And I can stuff a magazine in my bag when I'm on the go and it will never run out of batteries or crash when loading the next page.

I still have the first few issues of Nintendo Power, as well as many issues from recent years. I found out about many cool DS games from the mag that just didnt get coverage anywhere else.

Nintendo died to me a long time ago. This is nothing more than them pulling the life support plug.

yea the u.s. magazine market is on life support. Thank god for the u.k. market their mags are great.

I figured there would be a digital version instead. It is sad to see something like this go.

I still use my Final Fantasy 3 (ff6) Nintendo Power guide from back in the early mid 90's. Loved Nintendo Power guides. Reading about TMNT, Godzilla and Faxanadu to name a few, I'll never forget

Still honestly surprised magazines are still going on. With the internet nowadays they are practically useless since anything you can read in them you can find them online, usually sooner than the publication assuming it's news or something. It doesn't help that they've cheapened magazines too so about 2/3 of the issue is just ads and no real content. I remember when a GamePro used to be nearly as thick as a short strategy guide and most it was part of the magazine - not ads. Most mags these days are so thin you can use them as toilet paper.
