I love the series but honestly if you already own the dvd's I'd just go with another series because if I had the money I'd just buy another series.

Yes. I bought the DVDs in parts 1-4 in 2010 and then bought the 2 Blu packs that came out last year, and yes, the Blus look way better. Highly recommended.

Just remember the last dozen or so episodes along with the ending are non canon. I'd recommend giving the manga a go after you finish the series. ;)
 
I liked this series a lot in the early episodes, but it got really fucking boring in the mid-20s so I lost all interest... good deal for a 50 episode series though I guess.
