25 years - it's hard to imagine it was so long ago.

I love this show because it's smart scifi played down the middle. It paved the way for other great scifi series by showing that scifi tv doesn't have to completely rely on campy comedy or green aliens, lasers, and fisticuffs to keep an audience.

I don't even like star trek all that much outside the movies - except for this one show. If I had to pick two features that made it work I would have to say that it was the strength of the writing and the chemistry of the cast.

The new Star Trek movie was an ok Jerry Bruckheimer style movie but it trashed everything that this wonderful show did for smart scifi.

If you have love for this show please post - if you hate it please post, just post.

I think the first episode I ever saw was the one with Geordi and that disease that caused the purple veins to spread over your body. That actually freaked me out as a little kid, the glowing eyes and all were kinda creepy. I never though about it, but naming the engineer "La Forge" was genius.

I vaguely remember watching the first episode way back then. It came on our fox channel back when fox was only starting as a channel.

Felt a little confused by the first episode (I was maybe 10?), but the by the time a few years later that they got into the borg stuff I was in jr high and totally hooked.

The first one and a half seasons are actually pretty terrible. I'm rewatching the series and I had to skip major chunks of those episodes due to how boring/campy they were.

Maybe it was because I was younger when I first saw it, but the Wesley character never bothered me that much - as a kid I identified with him even if it was BS. I was glad when that blonde chick died though - she was a lousy actress and made for a much better villain later in the series - also her throwaway alt-reality storyline ended up being one of the coolest plot points later

I would have loved to have seen more Ensign Ro - as a teen I loved that episode where she was fighting over Riker with Troi - Riker was the man!

I think Ro was supposed to have Kira's role on DS9 but Michele Forbes turned it down or something. Also, there is a giant ST thread around here somewhere.

I wanted to do a ST:TNG thread because I honestly don't care all that much about the other Star Trek series.

Especially the new movie which was retarded as hell.

And Nemesis wasn't?
I never picked up on that, cool
Neither did I until I was thinking about it earlier. Riker really was the playboy of the show, I figure he was basically the Kirk-like character replacement, with Picard being older and practically celibate. Somebody has to tap that alien booty.

First episode I remember seeing was the one where Q sent them to them to an unexplored section of space and introduced the Borg. After seeing that stuff, it kept me hooked on the show.

Yeah, it was somewhat incoherent, but it was still better than Insurrection. Plus it was the first movie to give the Romulans the spotlight.

That is correct. When they cooked up DS9, they immediately wanted Ro as the Bajoran pain in the ass for Sisko. It'd give viewers a familiar face in the transition to DS9. Forbes was offered, and she turned it down. Rather than re-cast the role, they came up with Kira.

Also, Michelle Forbes has got it. You know what I mean.

Yeah I think she was afraid of getting typecasted. It isn't easy for actors to get work after star trek most of the time.

The other thread is for all things Star Trek. What's next, individual threads about different TV show characters?

Has it really been 25 years since ST:TNG premiered? Damn. That means I was like 12-13 when it came on the air.:whistle2:#

After TNG, I never really got into another ST series as much as I did this one. I mean, I watched the original series in reruns on the local PBS station later on a Saturday night. But until they added the Defiant to DS9 it was a snorefest. As for Voyager, I watched it because it was Star Trek, but it seemed like every time you turned around they found some alleged way to get home, only to have their hopes dashed for 7 seasons.

Enterprise was just.....meh imo. I couldn't get into it AT ALL.

But the new ST film was just basically an action flick that shat all over the current ST universe like 2 Girls 1 Cup.:whistle2:&

I'm honestly sick of the series after the abortion that was Enterprise and the so so movie from J.J. "OMG Look it's an Aliens Monster Mixed With Godzilla(aka Cloverfield)" Abrams.

I never got why people hated Riker, as a character he was kind of a goof but it was always fun to see him onscreen.

Picard did alright for an old guy - he certainly got more then Geordi

wow....already 25 years today huh? I've watch the shit out of the remastered HD versions of season 1...........can't wait for the other seasons!

Gush, this is just perfect!

I didn't think so before, but DS9 is easily the better series after having watched it. Even with all its faults, it blows away TNG in almost everything.

Riker was fine, but I guess he just didn't really add a lot to the show. He almost seemed like the lead on a soap opera, the pretty boy always getting the girl, ending up in some love triangle, or something along those lines. Oh and his daddy issues.

He was a little more interesting then that. Like that time the clone planet tried to steal his DNA, or the time he got in a love triangle with himself. They definitely had some fun with the galactic playboy angle
