I think giving Chael an immediate title shot is bullshit. Don't get me wrong I like Chael, but he doesn't deserve the shot at all. His last fight was a title shot in a lower weight division for crying out loud and he lost.

What happened to Henderson's title shot? Machida's? Hell, even Glover and Gus deserve a title shot more than Chael. I guess the UFC is desperate for ratings.

I agree with your premise. But what we don't know is if Henderson or Machida were offered the chance of coaching against Jones. Machida most likely would have turned it down since that's what he does. Henderson was a coach in the past, and maybe wouldn't want to go through it again. Who knows. It is crazy that Chael just got to jump to the front of the line, but the same thing was going to happen with Frankie Edgar...he was going to get an immediate title shot at Featherweight due to injury.

And Dana changes his mind about #1 contender status all the time (see the Jon Fitch discussion from earlier). What this should clear room for is a fight between Machida and Henderson for the NEXT title shot though....which is what some people thought might happen anyway. I just think Chael is crazy if he thinks he can do better against Jon Jones than he did against Anderson Silva. It just doesn't make any sense. Oh well. At least it will be entertaining.

I was going to say I like the choosing of Sonnen only because Jones can shut the haters up but really haters gonna hate. It definitely should have went to people more deserving. With that said though Chael probably has a chance.

I hear that DT. Normally Jones likes to take his opponent apart and when they're fairly broken and tired he goes for the kill. With Sonnen, I just want Jones to clobber him in the first round and make it look like Sonnen never deserved the shot in the first place. I'm sick of Sonnen and his carnival barker ways to get him whatever he wants. He's turning the sport into professional wrestling.

Ratings for TUF. Henderson and Machida make good fights with Jones and have more claim to a title shot but Sonnen is going to make this a huge fight and will be talking it up for 3 months. Nobody likes Jones, 70% of people don't like Sonnen, they are banking that people will watch both of them argue for months.

Edit : Nvm was pretty much said up there ^ lol.

I'm thinking this doesn't have as much to do with finding a worthy contender as opposed to finding a way to bring ratings on TUF for FX.The ratings keep getting worse and worse hitting a new low almost every week and theres still half of the season to go I think.TUF on FX on Fridays clearly isn't working and this seems like a last ditch attempt to throw a bandaid on to keep it alive for a while longer.

I see Lyoto's argument here, and it is valid, but it does feel odd seeing Lyoto talk like this when he turned down Jones 8 days in advance and 1 month in advance.I would have liked to seen Henderson get the title shot he had earned back especially with his age and Machida is sure to be a tough fight and may lose to him.

On the good side of things. It was announced today during the Media Conference that TUF is moving off Fridays and to a weekday and will be announced in 30-45 more days about it.

Dan Henderson said something funny on his twitter to Dana White

I guess I should just quit training to win fights and to be exciting for the fans and just go to shit talking school. @danawhite

Henderson and Machida should be pissed about losing out on their title shots. They both were lined up first but now neither are going to get their shot? Both will have to risk their ranking against somebody else in the time being and it is just a bad situation to be in now for those guys. If they lose, they lose any chance of a title shot!

An even bigger LOL is Sonnen getting his title shot not only coming off a loss but in a division he has never fought in. Also, does this mean his fight with Griffin is off or is it still on because obviously Sonnen isn't going to lose? That was easy money in that fight...

Its kind of sad to still hear about fighter pay when Jon Fitch probably the 2nd best welterweight in the last 5 years with a record of 14-2-1 in the UFC was going to have to get a real job if he lost his last fight.Historically will probably be refereed to as the 3rd best welterweight of all time up to this point after GSP and Hughes.Koscheck doesn't seem to be hurting with his big house and all those cars and even his own plane,I'm guessing hes gotten a percentage deal for quite a few fights.

Matt Riddle and Francisco Rivera retroactively suspended 90 days from 7/21 for banned substances. Riddle - weed, Rivera - OTC stimulant.

No big deal on either one but failed drug tests are never something that anybody wants to see. Also, Carwin and Nelson got randomly drug tested today.

So Phil Davis is fighting Forest Griffin. Not a bad fight. Good win for Davis if he can survive Griffin's guard, since even Griffin would have a shot to outstrike Davis.

You sound a little like Davis is the easier fight then against Sonnen for Griffin lol.

I don't understand the first part of that sentence ("you sound a little like...") but I agree Davis is a better fight for Griffin rather than Sonnen. That said, he will probably be the underdog against Davis too.

I actually think Davis is the tougher fight. At least against Sonnen he'll have more of a shot of exploiting Sonnen's submission defense.Davis has more of a complete ground game having the wrestling that everyone already knows about but some good submission offense/defense to go along with it.Just seems like if I had to choose who it would be worse to be in Griffin's guard,I think I would choose it being worse for Sonnen. Both Davis and Sonnen seem like they would want it take it to the ground and I'd probably give Forrest the edge against both in the stand up area.

Wow, an overturned win due to weed. That sucks lol. Clearly, it was enhancing his performance, haha.

As for Rivera, watch, we'll find out it was Cialis or something, lol.

Seems weird that a legal, readily available, over the counter stimulant would be banned doesn't it? I wonder what it could be?

So Carwin refuses VADA testing now, eh? Hmmm, that isn't going to win him any fans.

So I'm guessing the question had to do with Nick Diaz, because why did all three things you got feature Diaz on it?

Jeff Blatnick has passed away.

http://sportsillustr...obit/index.html

For those unfamiliar, aside from overcoming cancer in '82 and winning a gold medal in Greco-Roman in '84, he was on commentary for the early UFCs and was a major name that pushed back against those in goverment who wanted MMA outlawed around that time.

On a personal scale, he was one of the coaches at a wrestling camp I went to in both 1994 and 1995. I remember in '95 I'd track him down during downtime and ask him stuff about UFC...thankfully nothing horribly embarassing, mostly stuff about who he thinks would beat who, etc. I'm sure at some point a 15 year old kid bothering him about his other job after a long workout got kind of annoying, but he was always more than willing to talk to me for as long as I wanted. That was my favorite memory from a camp that had Tom Erickson (who was an asshole), Kurt Angle (pre gold medal), and Mark Kerr, among others.

RIP.

The old "legs are too old to wrestle" thing? It happens all the time in MMA. Guys get older (usually over 30) and they stop wrestling entirely.

Seen GSP lately?Looks like hes bulking up for a move to Middleweight rather then focusing on Condit.
