I agree with this, and when they made the change, they also grouped DVDs and BluRays together, which also makes it harder to find what you are looking for.
Initially I didn't mind the DVD's and BR's being together but after looking for movies the other day while I was in a hurry it quickly got annoying when, several times, I thought I had found a movie I wanted but it was the DVD, not the BR. Just a big step backward for their merchandising and a big mistake when they're trying to survive against multiple online retailers.
It's good for anime fans, and other genre fans. If i want to see what they got new in anime I dont have to scan the whole blu ray section, I can go and find what I want. That was why i nver shopped at Circuit City because to find what I was interested in that day I would have to sort thru 1000s of titles.
Anime is a very small fraction of sales in a vast majority of their stores. In my store at least, before the reset, anime DVD's already had their own section so nothing was gained there.
CC did divide their movies by genre. I'm not sure when you were last in one before they shut down but they were sorted that way for several years.
