USED Ps Vita $150 with "powerup rewards coupon" gamestop

i dont know if you think this is an offer but here is... it does not say if it includes a memory card or not...

So $150 for a used system that retails at $250 but can commonly be found at a $200 value (i.e. $250 + $50GC) is enough to get you guys to think it is going to be discontinued?

Jeez... then I wonder what dropping the MSRP of a system from $250 to $169 does after only being released for a few months....

No backwards compatibility is what probably screwed the vita more than anything.

None the less I'm very tempted by this price if I can get some vita games cheap too.

For 3DS it meant a HUGE boost in sales, and a revival of a platform whose future was looking rather bleak out of the gate.

Agreed. Though I've had my 3DS since August and just got my Vita on Christmas. I've already put in 40 hours with my Vita, probably about 10 on the 3DS.

Vita needs a price cute, and everyone knows it.
At what price do you consider cute?

Thank god Sony didn't bork the VITA by putting in a UMD drive. The system is much much better without it. As for BC all of my PSP Go titles play just fine. Yeah yeah I know Kingdom Hearts blah blah.

Be VERY careful. I bought a used Vita from Gamestop in October and I was told by the associate that buying the extended warranty was a waste of money (first time for everything) because it still fell under Sony's one-year warranty.

System stopped working in December (it appeared to be a dead battery) and Sony said they will only repair it for $160 -- used systems do not fall under the company's warranty.

I'd honestly not recommend ever buying a console used, unless you're getting an absolute killer deal (like 80% off or more) from a private seller on Craigslist or something.

i have like $300 of credit in gamestop and i would love to buy the vita at this price and resell it to get cash but im not sure...

pro: used cost $190 so we will pay $40 less!... thats very cool

con: does not include a memory card... $165 after tax plus $22 for a 4gb vita memory card = around $187 total... im not sure if i can sell the vita for more than that and i want to include the mortal kombat i gor for $10 to make the vita more atractive for resell but after all that numbers im not sure...

For anyone intereseted in PSP games, just be forewarned that there are quite a few good titles that're not available on PSN, and can only be purchased as UMDs still. For example (checked by me a few minutes ago):

Brave Story
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
Lumines 1 and 2
Mega Man Powered Up
Metal gear acid 1 and 2
Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner
Pangya
Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2
Popolocrois
Star Ocean 1 and 2
Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology
Valkyrie Profile

And there are literally hundreds of PSP games that ARE available, just check the thread in the Vita forums. So your tiny list really is kind of pointless.
Well, I could put together a MUCH more comprehensive list if anyone wants one.
Or, you could just point them to the thread that already covers PSP games on the Vita, and let them see for themselves:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316058

I have many PSP titles on my Vita and they look and play great on the beautiful 5" OLED screen. The few that don't work aren't deal breakers, by far.
I feel bad for Sony, they should just give up on handhelds.
Actually that's how I feel about Nintendo's handhelds, the 3DS was a joke. They had to gut the price to get it moving, and the 3D effect is beyond annoying. Too bad they built the whole handheld around that gimmick, it really ruined it.

That list is only for compatibility, it does not contain a comprehensive list of UMD titles that have never been on PSN.

Exactly. There are more than enough PSP/PS1 games available via PSN that will keep any Vita owner satisfied for quite some time (not to mention actual vita games as well lol)

I'm so backlogged I don't even know where to start.
It's sad to see the Vita not doing as well as it should be. Pretty much the perfect handheld IMO.
From a tech perspective you are absolutely right. The Vita is a nearly perfect handheld device. Unfortunately, in a world of smart phones and tablets, handhelds are becoming more niche devices. Personally, I just can't justify buying a Vita when I already have an iPhone and iPad.
It's sad to see the Vita not doing as well as it should be. Pretty much the perfect handheld IMO.
If it came with some sort of Android operating system I would absolutely love it and have very little need for either my tablet or smartphone.

However it doesn't and therefore I miss out on apps that I would like to have (i.e. HBO Go, ESPN, Amazon, Hotmail, eBay, etc.).

I have no doubt that the device is advanced enough to carry it....

if all youre buying a Vita for is the psp games it has available to dl you shouldnt buy one anyways. PSP game downloads is just an added bonus.

The 3DS is somewhat lacking but It's just in It's infancy as is the Vita.

Anyways Pokemon will be out in October so 3DS sales will explode and dwarf the Vitas.

Not a bad deal if it came with a memory card, but I believe Cowboom has it cheaper in the past. Only $50 to go...
your tiny list really is kind of pointless.
Done making a better list of UMD-only titles (this is only counting PSN and UMDs released in the US, there are probably a few more for other regions). I'd say there are PLENTY of games you can only play on a UMD-capable PSP:

I enjoy my Vita quite a bit...if you have a used Vita and it appears not to turn on, be sure to try recovery mode before calling it a brick or something really wrong with it. I haven't heard of many vita horror stories just yet.

Personally, I think Sony is kind of screwed with how the PS3 went and now the Vita. While PS+ is a great way to entice players to pay monthly, for some reason, all the kiddies on XBL have made it a resounding success and Microsoft has all the steam going into next gen.

Console-wise, I think Nintendo and Sony are on their way out and now w/ Valve's SteamBox and nVidia's Shield teamed up with it, Microsoft has a whole new threat on their hands.

If nVidia Shield works as well as it is advertised and SteamBoxes become easy for the masses, we could see a shift towards Gabe Newell's ever-expanding belt..err...bank...
if all youre buying a Vita for is the psp games it has available to dl you shouldnt buy one anyways. PSP game downloads is just an added bonus.
You do realize the vast difference in numbers between Vita games and PSP games available right? And how that would be a very good selling point(one Sony uses in it's pitches as well) to anyone who didn't buy a PSP or had one and sold it?

Vita has so few games right now that telling people "don't buy it unless you want the full retail Vita games" will really only continue the poor sales it's had out of the gate. Mostly because the low install base right now coupled with the fact it's a complex handheld that needs development times closer to a console title than a handheld title.

If everyone listens to you and just waits for big Vita retail titles, then the system may just end up DOA like the business analysts say it will.

Eh people like me will never support PC gaming no matter how it tries to evolve. There are a lot of people who just prefer consoles. It's that simple. Our computers are for other things and we don't involve them in gaming.

lol. Nintendo will most likely be making a profit shortly on the Wii U and now profit on the 3DS. They also have Pokemon coming out in October. POKEMON! So if anything Nintendo will be around for as long as they continue to print money. Yes they won't have the same success like they did with the original Wii, but the Wii U will make them some nice money in the long run.

Steambox is supposedly going to run on Linux. How the hell are you going to play Skyrim, Far Cry 3 and all those badass games like Torchlight 2 on a Steambox if it just runs on Linux?

Also lol @ nVidia Shield.

If anything the handheld market is shrinking because of tablets and smart phones. The PSP had a good marketshare in Japan at least. If anything Japan is the reason alone we have the Vita today.

How much does GameStop charge for their extended warranty?

Does anyone else think that a Vita price drop $ is right around the corner?

That must have been a series of blind edits by the mods.... oh well. I still firmly believe that the Vita could be the ultimate portable gaming/entertainment device if it had an Android OS

Most of PS Vita's serial codes are in SONY database,
you don't even have to send your purchase receipt.

I had problem with my Vita, they took it with out any asking, fixed it for me.
all free of charge. How would do they know its used system?

Incorrect. Sony required that I send the receipt with the system and, even in the shipping box they sent, a note saying that any system without the original sales receipt included will be returned.

And I forgot to include the receipt (I'm a dumbass). 10 days later Sony called me and said if I didn't want the system returned, I had to fax them the receipt immediately. The next day they wrote me an e-mail saying that due to me purchasing it used, it was not under warranty.

As a side-note, I tried to buy the extended warranty the other day through sony and they refunded my money saying they won't sell an extended warranty to a used system.

I just sent my vita to Sony, I talked to two representatives in warranty department
they both told me, original purchase receipt is unnecessary, because they had it on file.
I bought extended warranty, and it is used vita as well.

just got mine fixed, it had charging problem...
took like 3 weeks though

There's nothing I would personally want it to have an Android OS for, so that really doesn't bother me. I mainly bought it for gaming, and it does that so well IMO.

I believe it's the system only w/o memory card (call your local GS to confirm). At this point you might as well wait until E3 to see if Sony does a perma drop.
Well, I'm calling you a liar based on both my experience and their own Warranty policy stated online: http://us.playstation.com/support/warranties/psvita/index.htm

There are plenty of IOS games such as the Walking Dead, Bastion, World of Goo etc that are just as good if not better than their handheld counterparts. It was not my intent to get bogged down in an argument/fanboy flame war about which platform is better. I was simply postulating that smartphones and tablets might be the reason why handheld sales are suffering. The masses, that we as gamers love to bash, buy systems too. A whole lot of them.

I know exactly what you mean. I would never buy a used system. You just don't know the condition of the system, and there's other factors as well. I feel $200 is a great price for the Vita. That's what I paid for mine from a CAG. I don't play my Vita as much as I should, but I don't have a lot of time for gaming so I do enjoy the time I do get to play it.
