looking to get some laptop and desktop memory

first up laptop takes:
PC2-6400, 667 Mhz, DDR2
(looking for a 2 or 4 gig stick)

Desktop needs:
PC2-5300,667MHz, DDR2
(looking for three 1 gig sticks)

want the cheapest price, and retail if possible (or amazon)

mostly over priced crap.

30-40 for the laptop 200pin and 15-20 for the desktop 240pin

Tried Crucial.com? At a glance, the laptop memory alone looks $10-cheaper than what you're quoting... unless you meant you're finding 3 sticks for $30-40.

If this is your personal desktop computer, I highly recommend upgrading everything. It seems like you're running 7-8 year old parts which are close to the end of their expected lifetime. These RAM sticks won't be compatible with a newer motherboard (DDR3 opposed to DDR2), so if that ever goes on you (which is likely to happen after this amount of time) then you'd have no use for them. If I were in your situation, I would save up about $300 and buy a new CPU, motherboard, and 16GB of 1800mhz DDR3 RAM. That setup could last you another 8 years, and your hard drives and graphics cards will probably still be compatible (might need to upgrade your power supply though).

Just my two cents though. :)
