I wonder if you guys are as underwhelmed as everybody else after Sony's event. I thought the whole PS4 reveal was okay, even when the whole thing didn't blew my mind.

Anyways, thanks for uploading this. Now I have something new to listen to before falling asleep.

I think Killzone Shadow Fall had a little bit of sliding along some rail things like in upcoming Bioshock Infinite, though I didn't notice if you could actually do stuff while sliding since my connection wasn't great during that part. I liked the event, infamous was the best looking game to me. Excited to see other titles coming.

I'm rather indifferent about the PS4, the only game I'm interested in is Infamous other than that...meh. I don't really care social aspects, as I doubt I would ever use it. I also tend to take a lot of what Sony says with a grain of salt. This is the same guys who said the PS2's graphic would be on par with Toy Story. Sadly as of now, investors don't seem happy either.

I liked the presentation and announcement of the PS4. Not everything they showed was for me, as per usual, but looks like it is only going to get more interesting as time moves on. The real info I want of course is how much it costs.

I was sick of the presentation in the first 5 minutes. It just seems that the PS4 is just trying to social media the Wii U. I was very pissed with Square Enix's bragging that the PS4 architecture could allow them to make better Final Fantasy games. What ever happened to the FFXIII project? Oh right it got abandoned.
I don't deny that the games are easily graphically awesome, but it just served to further my appreciation for PCs and expensive graphics cards. When you compare it to increasing powerful handheld devices, that gap isn't as big as it was back in the PS3 days, much less the PS2.

The whole PS4 conference was good with some hilarious presenters. The hardware reveals and features were great including the suspend/resume function and the RAM. In any case, I'm excited for the new stuff.

Great show, as usual, fellas. Meant to ask in the CAGbag, and squandered away my question on something you already were planning on talking about, silly me.

I know it's REALLY early, but any predictions about price, pack-in games, and titles that will, for sure, launch day one? Personally, I'm more interested in hearing your thoughts on what you think the price will be. Sadly, I see it starting out at $400-500...

Too early to say without more specs like harddrive size. I think $399 is the lowest it could possibly be and I'd say $499 is more likely.

Sony Conference was kind of disappointing. They confirmed mostly what was already known, and the game that got people most excited was a PC game from last E3.

Looking forward to listening to the CAGcast today. Thanks Cheapy, Shipwreck and Wombat!

Perfect timing right after the event! Can't wait to listen!

P.S. I was disappointed by the conference. Not showing a picture of your console at all is ridiculous.

More info is leaking out the morning after the event than was revealed during the event itself. LOL

PSN games won't carry over.

PS4 will let you play used games.

There might need to be an asterisk next to the "yes you can play used games" answer though. The Sony rep would NOT say yes to "will PS4 stop me from selling/buying used games".

What he did say yes to was "PS4 will play used games".

There is a big difference in those two questions.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...gamer-playstation-4-will-not-block-used-games

Wow no PS3 compatibility and no PSN compatibility with the current system. That's a huge negative. So they are either going to have streaming of old games for the gaikai system for a yearly fee then or charge you to buy each game again?

All the multi player, sharing, and head set stuff looks amazing. I just need to know the pricing and release dates!

Cheapy, thanks for your valiant attempt to shut Wombat up about the Eagles documentary. When he started, I let out an audible groan on the subway.

Besides the flood of news stories... CAGcast is the only gaming podcast out today talking PS4 stuff that I subscribe to (nothin from giant bomb, Rebel FM, Weekend Confirmed...). Tip o' the hat to you semi-informed entertainers for educating my ear holes.

Yo man, you should check out my show. We posted our reactions this morning: Fantastic Neighborhood 53: ZOMG, THEY’RE CALLING IT ORBIS!

The problem with D3 was that the game was sort of dumbed down for the hardcore audience. I wasn't really sold on D3 because I felt the genre was sort of played out because I played MMOs during the 10 year wait until Diablo 3, so the idea of farming a dungeon to get loot that doesn't have a bigger world felt even more pointless.

However, a game like Path of Exile is probably going to hook the core audience a little more because there are so many options when creating a character, the loot is itemized much better than D3, and there is a better mutliplayer features such as various different ladders and PVP.

I think Blizzard's next game codenamed Titan could end up on consoles and hopefully we will see something about that later this year.

Cheapy, I don't know what's wrong with your Xbox, but mine boots in like 15-20 seconds and I'm logged into Xbox Live and ready to play about another 10 seconds after that. Maybe it's because I don't have many apps installed, but I definitely don't wait an entire minute just for my Xbox to turn on.

I'm pretty shocked so many people are down on this announcement. I'm not a fanboy either way as I have owned at one point all of the consoles (yes, even Wii U), but I think IF Sony can keep their promises this generation they will have a better chance this generation at succeeding. This isn't E3, so I don't get why so many people feel let down from this event. Either way, I'm excited. I am one of the few who has enough bandwidth to be able to actually stream games, so if they can really pull that feature off I will be very pleased.

Another great podcast. I also really enjoyed all of the tweets yesterday.

As someone who has poor download bandwidth at home and horrible upload bandwidth (DSL), I don't understand how any of these PS4 streaming features are going to work well.

Also, Cheapy, my Xbox 360 boots in probably 20 seconds. 1 minute sounds pretty bad.

Mine is pretty quick too, but I know other people that have complained of startup being around a minute or longer. Cheapy is not the only one experiencing this.

Cheapy, in the interest of science maybe you could delete all your 360 apps and then try starting it up.

If you don't see any benefit, try deleting all your friends off of XBL.

Your experimentation will greatly benefit all of CAGkind. Thanks in advance. :)

I realize you guys don't pride yourselves on being professionals or anything, but you really stooped to a new low on this episode. Cheapy/Shipwreck, it wouldn't have killed you to watch the event after the fact before recording this. What's the point in even having Shipwreck on the show if you're still going to stumble through trying to figure out what you're talking about? This ep was flat out embarrassing, sorry.

Wombat, you're excused because you have two kids and a full-time job.

Everything you need to know about the PS4 reveal in 3 minutes: YOUTUBE

Do you guys think Sony made this announcement now instead of waiting until (1. @ E3 or 2. after Microsoft revealed xbox 1080) in order to utterly kill WiiU sales in 'tit for tat' fashion after Nintendo cut the price of the 3DS the same week that the PS Vita was released?

The episode was fine. We've stooped much lower in the past.

I disagree entirely. They got the gist of all the major stuff that was announced and presented some reasonable opinions without being overly dismissive and snarky for the sake of it. Which is more than can be said for some professional sites, e.g. Polygon.

After some more thought on this, I realize it's really my fault not yours. My expectations are always entirely too high for important events generally speaking.

I listen to the show because you guys aren't pretentious, and you don't act like working stiffs in the biz. That being said, I always hope for a little more. Seems I can't have the best of both worlds, as much as I'd like to.
It's not like you guys get paid to do this, so whatever.

Notice how these "gamers" that are down on the conference only have XBL gamer tags or if they have a PSN one as well its really low (trophy count). Its confirmed that the PS4 will play used games but you have one Xbot playing with semantics on the first page to continue putting doubt on this "feature". Major Nelson had a really lame ass tweet about the PS4 not being shown, if he was so sure of HIS product why did he "attack" the most insignificant thing of last nights conference.

I avoided everything till last night and I was really pleased with the features shown, as for the games they look really good for 1st gen games on a system and with time still to go.

sheer coincidence.

What sucked about the PS4 announcement is Sony didn't show any exciting fresh new experiences.

Same sht we are playing. And in some cases the graphics weren't all that better looking. We even saw press the square button to end the misery of this press conference message on the screen in some game footage. Yawn. Ok it might have said something different.

Yes Sony showed off features that make the gaming experience more convenient. Nice, but 'tis icing on the cake. And not the cake we were came for.

The hardware specs are fine. But is this a selling point any more in the age of Apple? IT is about the whole experience. Specs were great when we saw massive leaps in graphics and gameplay. Now? Seems all we are getting is slicker looking worlds while the rest of the game world still feels semi-retarded.

But the good news is the system is still 9 months away from launching and we are probably a good 2 years from having the "real" games show up for it. HOpefully, for Sony, the best is yet to come.

Still, Sony should have waited until a human being could personally show off all the features they talked about on stage. Show me why I need a touchpad on my controller. Show me what is so great about the resume feature or my controller glowing blue or the camera. Show me what all this power will do for me. And make the 2 hr event an event. Not 2 hrs of dragging out something they could have put into a short press release with a picture of the controller.

And have someone at the company that is actually into the product show this stuff off.

What did we do to offend you? I'm very curious, since you hate us every week. (That reads meaner than I meant it. I just don't understand what we did that was so bad this week. We liked it and thought they did a good job.)

I was actually more interested in hearing about the Eagles documentary. It's too early for me to feel any excitement for the PS4; I still have enough PS2 and PS3 games to get to in my backlog.

In what way was my post anti Sony? Just because I only have an Xbox gt?

Did you read the article? If so, how can you not suspect there is something they are not saying?

So if someone buys a PlayStation 4 game, I asked, you're not going to stop them reselling it?

"Aaaah," was Yoshida's initial answer, but seemingly only because he'd forgotten his line. "So what was our official answer to our internal question?" he asked his Japanese PR advisor. The advisor stepped in but didn't seem to answer clearly, at least to my ears. Yoshida then took control again firmly:

"So, used games can play on PS4. How is that?"

I said I thought that was fine.

If there are no strings attached to used game sales such as a re-license fee, why not just say "yes" to the first question?

But you can't answer that without taking off your rose colored glasses, it is easier to just spout "herp XBOT derp" like an over-sensitive console warrior.

Keep fighting the good fight.

I'm about an hour into the show and thought you guys did a good job covering the press conference. I was actually looking to hear a podcast on it and was glad to see you guys cover it. To be honest, I'm not that excited about the new gen. The PS3 still looks plenty good to me, and like somebody mentioned, the PC can pretty much show those types of graphics.
By the way cheapy, you go on for minutes sometimes talking about your watch this movies and you cut cut off poor wombat when he was clearly excited about it.

Avid listener of the CAGCast, just never post here.

The problem with Diablo 3 is they screwed up the formula. The removed stat and skill points, and removed the "fun-ness" of creating tons of different classes with different builds. Also, the online auction house is a disaster. I could go throw in Diablo 2 today and probably still create a character build i have yet to do. Torchlight 2 is actually a lot more like Diablo 2, and stays true to the old formula.

There have been 3 HD consoles prior to now, each one losing between ~2 and 4 BILLION dollars across the life cycle. Nintendo saw this and decided that they wanted in on that. They abandoned two wildly successful machines in the DS and Wii, and their financials have been in the toilet ever since. They wanted to get back into the power race and thought they could compete with Sony and Microsoft on a budget. They deserve pretty much everything they have coming to them this cycle. Nintendo still has $7-8 billion cash on hand from the ~$15 Billion they made just from '08 through '10. They could've certainly made a more serious entry into the HD market if they really wanted to. This would've been crazy its own way, but that boat has sailed.

Anyways it looks like the Xbox team was watching the event closely. I can understand Sony not wanting to unveil the box and more detailed information until MS show's what they got cooking. Kaz Hirai did say "Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?". Sony did a smart move by announcing the PS4 and not exactly showing it. Now devs and consumers can begin talking about it while MS is still as clueless as us about what Sony's technical specs are.

I'm surprised that Star Wars:1313 wasn't shown at the Sony event, considering how far along it is and it's obviously for the PS4/next Xbox.

That's the first thing I thought too when you mentioned it at the top of the show, why try and talk about it before you had even watched the conference, but it ended up alright.

PS3 is a disaster? come on, perhaps your experience is colored by the growing pains at launch? I didn't purchase the system until after they had redesigned the XMB and have never had any problems finding anything.

If they end up launching first, then that will allow them more leverage to go pay-for multiplayer, launching the PS3 at such a higher price than the 360 and later means they were in catch-up mode and needed an competitive advantage.

The fact that they were trying to call so much attention to the changing sword interface on the Deep Down video made be think it was bullshit, that it was just a pre-rendered video that they were trying to pass off as gameplay. The game thing with that marionette band video, there's no way they were actually controlling that "live." They probably just animated it and then practiced mimicking the moves with the controller to make it seem like it.

That's just because Diablo 3 was awful, a link was pasted in the PS4 thread that summed up nicely the thesis that Diablo 3 was gimped with future release of consoles in mind.

I think you are seeing what you want to see in the whole "The Dark Skyfall" segment. They serve somewhat similar story functions, but their motivations, personality, and mannerisms are completely different. Also, a long shot of a person on a building wearing clothing flowing in the wind is a rip off of Dark Knight? really...because I'm pretty sure that existed before 2008.

Yea, the PS3 disaster comment by Cheapy was ridiculous. The PSN outage was a disaster. The XBOX360 failure rate is a disaster. Maybe that's why they sell so many consoles. I'm on my third.
I wouldn't call the ps3 a disaster, I would call it a great console which millions of people enjoy. I found this episode to be one of the more negative CAGcasts I've heard, especially Shipwreck. I for one am excited about the ps4, and am excited to see how the new XBOX shapes up. You all should have some sex once in awhile, and you'll be in better moods. Well, maybe Wombat's good...he sounded pretty happy this show.

The reason no one talks about Diablo 3 is it is a disappointment. There where plenty of people who where looking forward to D3 when it was announced. Then the people actually played and found out it really wasn't a diablo game but more of top down WOW for consoles being beta tested on PC's. There is still plenty of interest in the hack and slash genre, every one I know went back to titan's quest or on to Tourchlight after D3. Neither of those games fill the niche that D2 filled though.

Basically diablo 3 is the starwars episode 1 of video games.

I was listening to this episode while driving home and it was snowing pretty badly. All I could think of was if I crashed and died one of your voices would be the last thing I would hear.

Wombat, I just want you to know that if that had to happen, I would have wanted it to be your voice.

keep in mind that this was an announcement that the ps4 was officially on the way.
We'll hear much more about this in the months to come.

I personally don't care. Microsoft is seriously gonna have to pull a WiiU for me not to buy the next xbox.

You don't need to spend $30 on Diablo 3. You really, really don't. There's nothing there that you are missing. Just play Borderlands 2 some more or something. They both have awful loot and skill trees but at least the game is pretty and you can drive a car. And can cheat. Cheating in Borderlands is very satisfying. Playing Diablo 3 isn't.

Also what the fuck is the point of PS+ if the PS4 can't play PS3 games?
