Why do you all buy movies? Do you watch it again? Or is it just to let your friends\families borrow them?

I use to buy tons back during DVD era but didn't upgrade to blu-ray due to the price. Now I just buy Disney cartoons for my kids as they watch them over and over. I never rewatch a show\movie once I seen them. Better put my $$$ towards games.

Prices are good but must buy multiple to make shipping worth it.

First off, I've watched countless movies that I like multiple times. My favorite games of all time I've played...once(not counting an additional playthrough or two just to earn a platinum). Secondly, the amount they charge is almost exactly what the postage would be to ship a blu-ray, so they are not charging anything extra for "handling". When I buy multiple copies(like the 11 I bought here) they are taking a loss on the postage lol. So that's more than "worth it".

Thank you so much OP. These are excellent prices assuming good condition, of course.

I didnt hate John Carter. It just didnt have a vampire/werewolf combo or a girl with magic powers so it flamed out in theaters.
(Actual register date 3/3/2009, not sure why I switched accounts)

I bought both Ted and Five-Year Engagement at Family Video and they're the retail versions.

I hope so. I bought Ted and Savages because I want to own the unrated versions. I could wait a few more months until they are on hbo/showtime/starz to watch the theatrical 1080i versions on cable.

Why did you buy tons of DVDs and then not watch them? Didn't you realize after you bought 1 DVD that you never watched it? That's pretty stupid. Lots of people just like to rent movies or go to the movie theater or watch movies on cable or stream movies from netflix, hulu, etc. or order movies on demand. Not everyone likes to spend money buying movies. Buying movies isn't for everyone. Different people have different ways of appreciating media.

I don't know if the following will help the troll understand why videophiles/film fanatics like to own films... but I'll try to justify my purchases from this Family Video deal.

Ted - I laughed out loud several times during this film. Thinking back to my favorite parts almost makes me laugh. I have a strong feeling that this film will hold up on multiple viewings by still making me laugh. I also would like to see the deleted scenes from the "unrated" version and the additional deleted scenes in the special features menu. In summation... this movie makes me laugh over and over. Laughing is fun and it is good...

Looper - blind buy for me but everyone says you have to watch it multiple times to fully understand the time traveling plot. People who have seen this film say that it is a completely different experience on the second viewing. I enjoy different experiences and they are sometimes good...

Bourne Legacy - I have the other 3 bourne movies and I watch them over and over and over for the intense action scenes and the intriguing story. The action scenes make my adrenaline pump. Adrenaline rushes feel good...

Drive - That motherfucker from the Notebook beats the shit out of people with a fucking hammer! This will look badass in 1080p HD. Watching that abdominal muscles guy from Crazy, Stupid, Love beat the shit out of people is fun. Watching fun stuff over and over again can be good...

Magic Mike - I'm going to be honest... I just want to own a bluray disc that contains 1080p Olivia Munn topless scenes. I'm sorry. I'm a big Attack of the Show fan and I've been fantasizing about her for years. This is the closest I will ever get to her titties.
Also, leaving the Magic Mike bluray lying around on a table somewhere and letting your lady friend find it is a great idea. She will be like "why do you have this? Let's watch it." Once you two watch it, it is like her taking a handful of female Viagra pills. She will jump your bones and then you can pretend you're fucking Olivia Munn. Fucking a fake Olivia Munn is good...

The Savages - I'm not sure why I bought this. The movie was mediocre, but I already paid the $1.99 free shipping and handling for the other movies. Fixed cost shipping and handling is good...

I work at a Family Video and the local stores are not connected with the website.

Scorch is right that you should not expect more than just the discs and a case (not the case the came in). We sell only the discs and often just the video and not extra content (if there is a second disc). Though I constantly sell movies that have UV/iTunes digital codes and extra content discs.

That being said you can have them run your disc through a pretty expensive cleaner/buffer (not the one the usually run it through, ask for the better one) and they guarantee it will work.

My store usually has about 1 sale each month where items get marked down $1 and then get bumped down another $1 or two. It's rare, but you can get DVDs or $1.95 + tax on the first day. They will honor printed pricing errors as well if you can get lucky. Mine recently marked down $5.95 DVDs/Blu-rays to 2 for $4 instead of 2 for $8 and honored it.

Also, we buy rated/unrated and receive rental versions. The best way to tell which one you have is simply to look at the DVD as everything other than the rated version usually seems to be clearly marked.

They constantly price items too low though.

Thank you. Looking back at it makes me realize it was one of my better formed sleep deprived rants. Once you get to the bottom of the post, you can really understand how depraved my CAG shopping methodology can get.

But I hope the troll now understands why some people decide to own films.:D

Thanks again OP. I received my first shipment of Ted, Looper, and Bourne Legacy. None of them included the digital copies or dvds or slipcovers. They also all had that little sticker on the inner part of the disc. At these prices, it doesn't matter to me.

Did anyone order movies like Dredd 3d and actually recieve the disc that plays both 2D and 3D?

Did anyone order Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, and recieve the full featured disc pictured on familyvideo.com with all of the special features? I bought the barebones movie-only version on black friday, for $3.99 but I'd gladly upgrade for $6.99. I would just hate it if it ended up being the barebones disc I already own.

I can't wait for my 2nd shipment of Drive, Magic Mike, and The Savages: hammer murders, Olivia Munn tata's, and uncomfortable alluded-to "sword-crossing" three-ways with Blake Lively and some other dude... sounds like a party to me.

Looks like Skyfall is up for 9.99

I think I might also see a couple new ones. Flight and Man with the Iron Fists are both listed as $9.99.

Dredd is only single disc. I Believe one side is 3D and the other is normal.

Thanks. Just to confirm, familyvideo.com is selling a double sided flipper bluray disc with the 3D version on one side and the 2D version on the other side of the same disc?

Wait, my bad, it's actually all crammed on one sided disc upon doing more research just to be sure. So it's just one sided disc that has both 2D+3D and the extras on it.

Just a warning about War Horse. It comes in a ugly generic Family Video case. The cover is normal but the spine and the back are generic. To make matters worse I had to pay .12 because they used to little postage.

 =P~ I did not know this...... I must obtain this movie. IMMEDIATLY!

I'm going to try out the "do you match your website?" in store so at least I'll know what I'm getting. I like the prices but the condition does matter to me.

BTW, you could probably get closer to them if you really wanted to but at some point it would involve a restraining order and/or jail time.

I received my copies of Magic Mike, Savages, and Drive today. Magic Mike and Savages came with their slipcovers.

I just got done watching the Looper bluray I bought and it surpassed all of the amazing hype I've heard about it. I highly recommend it as a blind buy at this price. I was not disappointed one bit.

Received my Amazing Spiderman, Moonrise Kingdom and Ted. None of them came with DVDs. Is it always like this for movies? I remember I always received completed games from them so this is strange to me.
