PS Vita sales quadruple because of Japan price cut US next?

Good news. At the very least the vita might pick up steam in japan and sony will get some big 3rd party names from japan on the console.

The Vita is an amazing piece of hardware and as it stands I have more than enough to play on it. Hopefully everyone will see the light. I'd love to see the VITA hit it's stride.
Guessing Phantasy Star Online 2 had something to do with it too.
Some new pervy Vita game called Shinovi VS sold even more than PSO 2. About 90k copies

lol

This is great news to hear! Personally love my Vita, so much I had bought another one just so I can give my original one to my little brother so he can enjoy it haha.

I hope and wish this can continue, and really do hope for some game announcements either soon or at E3

I just sold my Vita, comparing the upcoming games between the 3DS and the Vita, I could not justify keeping the Vita. I still think Sony has the best console on the market though.

I'm really hoping that the lack of a release calendar is somehow related to the PS4 release. Having Tearaway, Soul Sacrifice and a couple new fighters on deck is enough to keep me on board regardless. When I finally run out of stuff play on the vita I'll pick up Persona 4 Golden and still get a few months out of it.

I have both. I like and play the Vita more easily though.

I used to shun my 3DS due to the junky feeling of it (wobbly screen, bottom screen touching the top when closed leaving lines and an imprint of the analog nub on the top screen) but I eventually got over it. I enjoy taking it around and hoping for a Street Pass....even though that rarely happens.

I know what you mean, I've owned every Nintendo handheld and to be honest the 3DS just doesn't live up to the legacy hardware wise. The slow presentation in the system menus drives me crazy too. The Vita is my go to device now anyway but kind of disappointing. The 3DS XL (which I now have) is better but not perfect either.
The Vita has not only continued to sell in Japan, but actually actually sold a 1000 more units than it did a week before. So they moved a little over 63k units last week. Bringing the total sales of the Vita in Japan at around 125k units over the last two weeks.

Soul Sacrifice sold over 114k copies (if you include the Double Pack edition) in just it's first week. And that's just physical sales.

Sony must be very pleased with how things are going for the Vita in Japan.
Good to hear, hopefully it will keep on selling!

Glad to see it's still selling well.

Vita deserves to be selling a lot better than it has been. Hopefully this will get some more third parties on board.

This still doesn't translate to positive news for NA...Sony NEEDS to drop the price to $199 here. There's just no way around it.
Can anyone confirm this about the Vita 3G price cut http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/09/playstation-vita-data-plans-for-us-revealed/
Wrong link. There have been no official price cuts outside of Japan. But currently there are in-store deals at Sony Stores around the nation for the 3G Vita model. They're on sale for $199 but you HAVE to get a data plan with it. Making the deal pretty unattractive IMO.

Rumors are circulating that Sony might be discontinuing the 3G model.

Thanks to a drop in Nintendo 3DS sales and the release of Keiji Inafune's exclusive game Soul Sacrifice the PlayStation Vita is still top of the Japanese charts.

 1. PlayStation Vita - 63,581 (Last week - 62,543)
 2. 3DS XL - 39,801 (50,265)
 3. 3DS - 21,207 (27,174)
 4. PlayStation 3 - 19,567 (25,725)
 5. PSP - 18,023 (11,171)
 6. Wii U - 9,454 (10,021)
 7. Wii - 1,363 (1,383)
 8. Xbox 360 - 738 (486)
The console jumped to the top spot last week following a price cut in Japan, and has managed to more than hang on, even seeing a slight rise in sales. Its nearest rival, the Nintendo 3DS XL, saw a fall in sales of over 10,000.
On the software chart the top five was packed full of new entries, with two Vita titles, Soul Sacrifice and Tales Of Hearts R, making their first appearance.

 1. [PS3] Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F - 110,229 (New entry)
 2. [PSV] Soul Sacrifice - 92,396 (New entry)
 3. [PSP] Uta no Prince-sama All Star - 67,217 (New entry)
 4. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 63,285 (Lifetime sales - 2,802,940)
 5. [PSV] Tales of Hearts R - 55,258 (New entry)
Charts supplied by Media Create and published by Gematsu.

I don't often look at these numbers, but I'd heard that the 360 numbers in Japan were pretty rough. Wow! It should also be noted (I saw this earlier today) that the Soul Sacrifice double pack is a different sku that sold over 11k units (or 22k copies) which technically put Soul Sacrifice combined on top over Project Diva F.
A $199 price would probably help them a lot. Would look pretty good sitting at the same price as an XL.
There's no probably about it, there's 3 moves that would work in tandem that would jumpstart the vita across the board.
1- PS3 & PSVita price cuts to $200 at E3
2- $450-$500 500GB PS3/PSVita bundle pack w/6 games(3 PS3, 3 vita) + 6 months PS+ preferably not titles already found in other bundles like GOW saga, UC coll, LBP & so on. Just a fresher mix along with a new titles from each system. Say they did a AC legacy bundle with all the HD AC's 1-4 & both vita titles.
3- Announce 10 killer AAA games, at least 5 would need to release between Sept - Dec with the others hitting 1st qrt 2014
Gran Turismo
Grand Theft Auto
Metal Gear Solid
Kindom Hearts
Monster Hunter
God of War
Final Fantasy
Star Wars Battlefront
COD(no brainer)
AC(already leaked)

All of these should be bundled with the vita & the bolded should have LE versions.
(conservative estimates)
GTA will sell 3 - 4 million
KH will sell 2.5 - 3.5 million
MGS will sell 3 - 4 million
Monster Hunter will sell 3 - 4 million
God of War will sell 3 -4 million
GT will sell 3 - 4 million
FF will sell 1.75 - 2.5 million
SW battlefront will sell 1.5 - 2.5 million
COD will sell 2 -2.75 million
AC will sell 1.5 - 2 million

Add KH, MGS Acid, GTA, Star Wars & FF $40 HD PSP remakes for PS3/PS4/PSV to bolster the lineup.
All of these can support a vita exclusive & cross buy which when combined with the other titles from PS4 would give Sony a huge advantage vs MS & Nintendo.

I'd love to see a PS4/PSvita bundle but that would definitely cost like $600 although it would be a killer 2014 or 2015 E3 surprise at $450-$500.

If I lived in Japan (and understood Japanese) I probably would have picked up a Vita again.

Phantasy Star Online 2 and Soul Sacrifice have me extremely intrigued about the Vita and would be enough to justify purchasing one. Right now there are no games in the US that make me want to buy Vita. I'm hoping that changes and Sony releases some of these great titles stateside soon.
