Manga Suggestions

CAGiversary!
what are some really good manga titles that you'd recommend? i like to read manga a lot, and i'm getting a kindle soon, so i can actually carry manga around with me. titles that i've read or am currently reading include Akikan, Hellsing, Hellstar Remina, Death Note, and Higurashi.

also, does anyone have personal experience with domdomsoft's manga downloader? so far it looks good, just want multiple opinions.

Judging from what you've read, I'm gonna assume you're into the supernatural genre, correct?

Cage of Eden
Ao no Exorcist
Deadman Wonderland
Shingeki no Kyojin
Berserk
Project ARMS
Bakuman (Even though this isn't in the same genre at all like the others, if you like Death Note, it was made by the same team.)

I would like to second Eden: It's an Endless World.

Also Akira. The manga is like that much better than the already awesome movie.

-20th Century Boys
-Monster
-MPD Psycho

Rurouni Kenshin
Tsubasa/xxxHolic
Rosario+Vampire
Negima
Ultimo

There is also current "Holy Trinity" of Shonen Jump manga: One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. However, all three are 60+ volumes.

If you play Pokémon, I also emcourage Pokémon Adventures. While I don't think it is perfect like some fans say, it is still pretty good.

I used to be big into manga but I only follow a few now:
(Mature content for mature readers such as myself)
Berserk
Claymore
Ubel Blatt
Gantz

(Pure fun)
One Piece

I recommend all of these if you like medieval flavored bloodshed with a demonic twist to the world. Gantz is a little different but just replace medieval with Sci-Fi and you're close enough. One Piece stands out from this theme and is just pure shonen fun with a very interesting world and a great sense of adventure. Really dig the art style as well.

Suspense / Thriller
Monster
20th Century Boys -> 21st Century Boys (sequel)

Action
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Hunter X Hunter

Comedy
Angel Densetsu

o_O I didn't think I'd get this many responses! At any rate, thanks for the suggestions. Maybe look up online scans of them, and see what they're like before I get the kindle

Do note that several of these manga have non-indicitive first chapters. Rosario+Vampire and Negima especially change over. They start out as pure fanservice series but after a few volumes turn into shonen action series (and get quite dark) with fanservice elements.

Shonen/Seinen/Shojo? It would make it a lot easier for us to suggest specific stuff you might enjoy.

I can give you an absurd list of just shonen/seinen fighting manga alone.

mainly i prefer shonen/seinen, but if the shojo isn't overly-girly, i'll give it a go. and looking at like my movies and games i've played, mostly horror and action, though some of the fantasy/surreal/supernatural/comedy genres. if there's a specific series from outside those genres that you think really stand out, i'm willing to try and see what they're like

Since I'm a bit older than I was when I started reading manga, I've shifted toward more mature fare, like titles printed by Vertical or DMP. Black Jack is great!

Oh yea, almost forgot Eva. The standard Evangelion manga is still going on and diverges quite much from the original series. Shinji Ikari Project is a shonen series that focuses on comedy, fanservice, and relationships (based on the infamous High School AU from the final episode) while Campus Apocalypse is a shojo that turns the series into a Sherlock Holmes/Death Note-esque murder mystery.

any specifics stand out, or just Black Jack? i'm in college, so i think i can handle mature themes

i've tried the free version of the downloader software i linked earlier, and so far it works really well. can't wait to get the kindle so i can read it away from the computer!

Well, I've never read manga, but I watch a little anime here and there. I watch Detective Conan a lot and it's based on the manga series. Really good show. I like the subbed episodes myself because the dubbed "Case Closed" episodes are kinda... awkward.
