DMC: Devil May Cry $34.99 (PS3) on Amazon
the TIV is high about $33 ...nearly free one week rental?
its likely to drop real fast

I really want this game, but just like strizay...I have way too much to play to even get it for $35, $20 and it's an instant buy for me.

Honestly it's practically every few weeks we get a lot of high profile or good games coming out this generation on home consoles and handheld devices, it's hard to keep up. Then they don't sell so the series/franchise gets killed or takes a backseat for a while.

Can't buy this right now. Too many games I have to catch up on.
the TIV is high about $33 ...nearly free one week rental?
I've only done 1 trade with Amazon, don't really care for Amazon credit anymore since I rarely buy from there but seeing how I already platted the game and beat Vergil's Downfall I think I'll trade it with Amazon considering the TiV over at BB has plummeted big time ever since they had that Resident Evil 6 deal.

When it came out I wasn't going to get it because I figured it wouldn't live up to the standards of old games, plus I've hated everything Ninja Theory has put out (Heavenly Sword & Enslaved). I only bought it since it came out to $20 after using the $50 Visa promo.

But damn was I wrong, it's a fun game, and although not to the standard of the previous DMC titles. For me it's:

DMC3 > DMC >> DmC > DMC4 > DMC2

The recent game update tightened the score mechanics, (which was my only gripe since the game gave you SSS's left and right with hardly a challenge). I'm not big on loud metal/dubstep but it fit perfectly with the game and I thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack.

Once it hits $20 I def recommend people who enjoyed the previous series to give it a shot though, well worth it at that price. (Unless you plan on just playing through SP once, then def rent it.)

Waiting for it to hit $15 so I can use the $20 I saved to buy some delicious pizza and strawberry sundaes to honor the late Dante.

I'm pretty sure you can use old Dante to play it

I was so ready to buy this but didn't see where it said "PS3" in the title.
Ah, not getting it now might mean I will be able to pass on the next deal for it in favor of a better price.

Never been THAT big a DMC fan (not big enough that I would boycott Capcom for getting Ninja Theory to switch things up or anything) but I thought the demo was really good. I liked the first and fourth game well enough and haven't put much time into the third but liked it too. Maybe I'll just buy the HD trilogy right now instead.

Hold onto your wallets. This game sold pretty poorly, which means bargain bin prices soon. I suggest waiting it out because it'll be much cheaper soon.
I'm pretty sure you can use old Dante to play it
You can't. It's DLC that you have to buy. Yay, Capcom!

This game is awesome, IMO. Big improvement on the old ones, which I kind of like but always found the jumping puzzles to be a chore. The jumping puzzles for this one use a grappling system and are a lot less frustrating (for me, anyway) to do. Yeah, they changed Dante's look but I was never attached to the original Dante. The voice actors are really great, even if the script isn't the best. The combat system is probably too easy for the super hardcore, SSS-ranked 100,000-hours in pro guys, but for the rest of us it's smooth and fun. It's more crowd managing than dueling, but has its own charm with the light and dark weapon alternating in mid battle. Kind of reminded me of Lords of Shadow's combat system.

For $35 I would recommend it. Given the viciously competitive nature of the games business, I'm sure in a couple months this will be down to $20. If you need something to play now and you're an action fan, I don't think you would regret it. There's also DLC now that I haven't tried yet, so I can't comment on that.

Got the pc version for around 30 bucks on release and it was totally worth it. Was really surprised at how well it performed on my 2+ year old rig. The hate for this game is seriously overblown by people who most likely haven't even played it.

Pick up the HD Collection of DMC instead if you're an action fan. Honestly, DmC is a true disappointment, and is the weakest DMC, combat-wise, since DMC2.

And the story? Not even as good as DMC3, which is surprising considering how many people swear by Ninja Theory's writing.

Lots of fun, this one. Not quite as good as
the old games but it's quite fun and unique in it's own way.

Beats DMC4.
Whoa I just traded this game into Amazon for $33!
LOLZ...me too!

Honestly, if some of you insist on getting this pile, I do not recommend getting this game for the PS3. The best version by far is the PC version. The AI crashes, the game crashes during loading, bosses become invincible, enemies get stuck in the air, the lock-on sucks for difficulties above Nephilim, and I haven't even gotten into how how paper thin the story and narrative is. There's like zero character development except for a couple of the bosses...this is not an exaggeration. I expected more from Ninja Theory considering how they were hyping their ability to tell a story and having liked Heavenly Sword.

The combat system, itself, was ok, but is worthless because one weapon is so OP that you don't need anything else until you encounter a color-coded enemy that requires a weapon that is severely under-powered. Escort and platforming missions are a huge slog and really bring down replayability for certain levels.

And the lighting/shadow effects...jeebus, they're BAD.

Wait for the game to hit $20 or less people.

This game is amazing and Id definetly reccommend it to anyone. Just played through all 5 games and its easily up there as one of the better ones. Id say only DMC3 trumps it

How much do you buy it?
How much do you buy it?
I bought it Day 1 for PS3, so $60 and since it was a pre-order, it came with Vergil's Downfall.

If you enjoy breaking already broken games, then this game is a blast. You can stay airborne pretty much the entire game.

Launch -> mash different weapons -> SSS rank.

Enjoy.

Wow, exaggerate much dude?

I experienced no crashes whatsoever or any of those AI glitches you described during my play through.

Story is lackluster sure, but it's not like any of the prior games had great stories either. This series has always been about the action first and foremost. This game is no different.

Combat was alot of fun IMO and there was enough variety to keep things fresh and entertaining the whole way through. Boss battles are the one area I would say the game was lacking in combat wise.

Escort missions are a huge slog, really?? I recall exactly one escort sequence and it wasnt even a full mission. It was over within a couple minutes literally.

Personally I enjoyed the Platforming. It was a nice change of pace from combat every now and then.

And I can't comment on console versions, but on PC the game looks amazing. Even a modest system can run the game at 60+ frames to boot.

Not really sure why some people have such a ridiculous agenda against this game. I played DMC 1 and 3 and they were good games, as is this one.

Yes it is. The new Dante gets quite a bit of development and is not the same person at the end of the game that we saw when it opens up. They did a good job with his characterization here, especially in terms of his interactions with Kat and Vergil over the course of the game

We're actually going to say the new Dante is well developed? Have our standards really stooped this low?

The character makes a complete 180 after two missions. And that's it.

Eh, if you like WB teenage dramas, I guess. The way the motivations for these caricatures change at the drop of a hat was really just boring and inconsistent.

You might want to read my post again, dude. But I'm going to re-insert the context that you took out.

I experienced no crashes whatsoever or any of those AI glitches you described during my play through.
The PC version isn't immune to a few universal bugs like the flying glitch, which was fixed with the Bloody Palace DLC, and the 360 version doesn't have as many AI crashes as the PS3 version. Word on the grapevine is that problems on the PS3 version is due to Unreal being less compatible with the PS3. That's why I said don't get it for the PS3 and get it for the PC instead. It's right there in the first two sentences of the second paragraph.

Story is lackluster sure, but it's not like any of the prior games had great stories either. This series has always been about the action first and foremost. This game is no different.
Ninja Theory was hired because of their ability to tell a compelling story. This was Ninja Theory's AND Capcom's main selling point for the game. If they didn't hype it as being more "mature" and "deeper," this wouldn't have been an issue. Making it grim and dark doesn't make it mature or deep. It isn't even good as a Baby's First Punk/Anti-Corporation game.

The combat being fun is subjective and like I said, the mechanics of it are fine, but their context is completely out of sync with the game itself when style rankings are based on damage as opposed to combos. Add in poor weapon balancing with increased difficulties, you have less incentive to be stylish as opposed to spamming Coiled Trinity Smash into Overdrive if you want to SSS a mission. The idea behind the rankings is so that you'd RE-play the game and the ranking system insists that you do it efficiently; not stylishly, which leads me to problems with escorting and platforming.

There are 2 escorting sections and I don't even want to count the the long platforming ones. There are at least 6 of them off the top of my head. If you think they're fun and a nice change of pace? Then I'm glad you enjoyed it. For me, going through it for the 20th time because a wave won't spawn in the arena or a crash after a "cutscene" is a pain in the arse when I'm trying to SSS the mission and half of the mission is escorting/platforming. El-Shaddai, this game isn't.

And I can't comment on console versions, but on PC the game looks amazing. Even a modest system can run the game at 60+ frames to boot.
Again, this is why I said the PC version is the one to get. Hell, average fps that I've been seeing is well into the 100's, but tends to run into issues the higher they go.

Not really sure why some people have such a ridiculous agenda against this game. I played DMC 1 and 3 and they were good games, as is this one.
If I had an agenda like the one you're implying, I'd be bitching about white hair and DONTE looking "emo." I couldn't care less if Dante was transgendered rastafarian with a rainbow colored mustache and hot pink lemonade braids if the gameplay was solid, had good enemies to match, and a well-told story even if it was trite and cliche. Revengeance is an over-the-top satire that tells almost the exact same story with tons more gravitas and does it FAR better. Raiden actually grows as a character and Dante just kinda does what he's told. Heck, Lilith is given more character development and motivation than Dante and Vergil combined. In matter of fact, I think she's the most developed character in the game.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game, but pointing out it's flaws doesn't make me a "fanboy" or "anti."

edit: Anywho, if someone is looking for an easy platinum that can be done in about 40 hours, this game is for you.

Someone should just make a be-all-end-all DmC Discussion thread instead of every deal thread for this game devolving into people getting upset about opinions.
