Note: I've made this post wiki editable, in case anyone wants to pretty it up or in the event this is the start of repeatable sales of some kind (similar to XBL DotW). If people care, or there gets to be more sales, I'll make sure to clean this up and make some kinda of clear organization or something. Unless someone else feel like doing it, as this is wiki editable of course!

The Windows Store is abysmal, I feel sorry for anyone trying to sell their creation, when it comes to retail functionality MS fails everytime. They just expect everyone to be masters of search, or browse through long lists, partial lists, or lists they think encompass what you're looking for. I used to think iTunes was the king of crappy UI's and the Windows 8 was born.

would be nice if they had some sort of cross buy thing (ie. you get a Win8/360 version when you buy the other), so that those of use without windows 8 could get in on the sales.

Along with those deal posted it looks like iStunt 2, Gravity Guy and Monster Island are FREE right now. Not sure how long so if you are interested I would install them soon.

4 Elements II for Win 8 is actually quite good if you like casual games. Some hidden object mixed with match 3 and this version has some bonus levels and Xbox Live Achievements.

The first 4 Elements is on Steam but the second one they didn't let in for some reason so it had to go to Greenlight. The Greenlight crowd is extremely anti-casual games so the chances of it getting in are near nil.

If you have Windows 8 this as probably as low as you'll get it for.

Otherwise you might be able to catch a sale on it on Big Fish but you'd need the monthly membership for that.

updated with additional limited time offer/ad from the Windows 8 Store...ya, they are free games, but I'd rather just add them to this thread then make a new one in the free stuff section...

EDIT: well actually I'll go ahead and make a free Windows 8 store thread, since the store is awful to navigate and find such things

I'm just new to Win8 and its app store. I am logged into my laptop as a local account. I downloaded 3 free games and am wondering how it works.

Do I need to be logged in under a @live account and then it will always have these free games associated to that account. So if I use reinstall or buy new laptop I can use the same @live account and will be able to redownload all purchases?

Since I just did these free ones under a local, I assume it's not associated to anything so I lose them in future reinstalls then.

Any links to explain all this? I want to watch for free games like I do on the iOS forum and have them in my iTunes for future devices.

Thanks everyone for any help

Yes, log in using a Live account. You'll then be able to enter the store on any of your computers, right click then select "Your Apps". There, you will be able to redownload anything you have purchased (including these free apps). It's basically the Xbox DRM. If you're signed in, you can access any apps you've bought on any computer. Also, the computer you originally bought the apps on allows other Live accounts to use them too.

deals are dead, updating, but free stuff still active

EDIT: Looks like Royal Envoy is still on sale...

EDIT: Added Gunpowder...just like Gunstringer or Royal Envoy, I'm not sure if this actually is on sale or is just a price drop in the disguise of a sale...

bump reminder: current free games are set to end tomorrow at some point

EDIT 4/20 - Looks like Royal Envoy finally went back up in price...

Im noticed today that Reckless Racing has a temporary price drop aslo
Added, but I think its a price drop rather than a sale price, just because of how its worded in the Description and how it was $3.99 at one point in the past... If you have a source saying its a sale, let me know.

Maybe someone here can help me out. I have a Surface RT. I downloaded Spartan Assault and I'm using a wired Xbox controller. I changed the settings in options to recognize the controller input and I can go through menus just fine, but whenever a mission starts, it won't recongize my controller anymore to do anything.

As a heads up the 12 days of Christmas start the 9th at the MS Store. Headliner for that day is a $99 Dell Venue Pro 8.

A good deal for a Windows tablet.

Yeah, you're going to be busy: Red Stripe deals have been extended to Windows 8 now, with a new deal going live every Thursday morning. :)

Ya, as I started looking into Red Stripe deals the horror of what must be done to maintain this thread set in....

EDIT: Whats worse is there is like no obvious to find tracker for the Red Stripe deals for Windows 8...

Apparently Bejeweled Live is now $1.99, supposedly only for Windows 8.1.  Could someone with Windows 8 only please confirm this?  Not sure if this is a sale price on its own or if the Red Stripe deals were just late to updating sale price (has happened before with Windows Phone Red Stripe sales), but whatever the case may be, its cheaper right now!

In for Rayman and Bejeweled! Thanks for updating this, probably wouldn't have noticed these deals otherwise!
Just a warning, apparently Rayman is near impossible to get all achievements without a touchscreen (or even with).

EDIT: And no problem, expect weekly updates around Thursday, as they've added weekly deals now to Windows 8. And don't forget about my free apps thread (link in OP).

anyone know if its just Episode 1 of Fairies that's on sale or all the episodes?
Based on how they handle episodes in W8, I would assume its just Episode 1...

Thanks for the heads up, I usually do go for achievements but I don't really try that hard to max games anymore, I've spent too much time doing really boring stuff in the past before so now I just kinda do what I think is interesting instead of everything. That said, I don't have a touchscreen but I did try the demo before I bought it and enjoyed it, but yeah looking through those achievements I would probably just get angry going for them haha.

Ya, I know the feeling, I actually avoid playing some games because I know the achievement grinding will just piss me off. Luckily, that's only for those damned missable or play-though ones; and thats why I am loving the Windows 8 causal crap games...no worrys, just gamings with added benefit of "ha, got an achievement"

Saw it yesterday and wondered if it was actually the deal. Does it have online multiplayer? The W8 games I've bought so far haven't had any while their 360 versions do.

...was debating bumping this for a lackluster deal on a previously free game...but just in case there is that one person out there without it who is willing to pay...

iStunt 2 is $2.49 @ 50% off

I remember reading that the skulls developer was not going to put the updated stuff on the windows store they were only going to be updating the steam version from here on out.

Has anybody tried the fish game on W8.1? One of the reviews said that the devs have acknowledged that it doesn't work with 8.1, but I'd rather hear it from a CAG.

EDIT: Cheese and crackers that new Bingo is addicting. It kept offering to add 5 more balls for only a few coins. I couldn't stop until all my cards were filled. Next thing I know, there's 30+ luggage to open and not enough keys. I need keys more keys key key keys keys keys
