Amazon has a coupon that you can "clip" that saves $5 off the purchase of The Little Mermaid on Blu-ray. This is good for both the 2D version, as well as the 3D release. Even with the coupon, the prices are still pretty high, but they'll no doubt go lower when it's released (October 1st)

The Little Mermaid (Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy)

The Little Mermaid 3D (Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy + Music)

These offers don't last too long so it's best to lock in your pre-orders now. The coupon will only show up when you're logged in I believe, and once you've ordered, it will disappear (it should show back up if you cancel your order).

Thanks for the heads up! Grabbed the golden version - not a huge fan of the cover, might clip/order the 3d version and wait to see if the prices drop any more before release.
Can we merge this thread with the new disney releases thread?
As this is a limited time offer, it's best to have a separate thread so everyone can see it.

Nice that Disney made this one as a inclusive 2D/3D release, unlike the recent Oz movie.

In for a pre-order. Will probably end up $19.99 - $22.99 at time of release after coupon, if things play out as they usually do. Might get lucky and have it cheaper.

Thanks, ssjmichael..preordered 3d version. You're right, never would have seen the deal if it were merged with the other Disney thread. On a related note-is Aladdin the next "big" Disney blu ray release?

Thanks OP. I can't wait for this release, *says the 24 year old man with no children.*

This one was such a big part of my childhood. I watched the dvd about a year ago and the film holds up very well. It was the first time I watched it in over a decade.

A lot of stuff I've rewatched from my childhood, in reality, sucks without nostalgia, but these golden age Disney animated films are so fucking perfect.

Thanks, OP. I preordered one of each in separate orders in case the 3D version doesn't drop low enough for me before release. I just hope the weekly ads containing them are leaked early...

I did the same.

I have been wondering for a while. I'm starting to buy blu-ray for collection and I have been seeing blu-ray 3D. If I see that label, does that mean I can't watch that movie in 2D? I should add that this is about all blu-ray titles, not this as it's bundled. If I want 2D and 3D, I have to get the movie twice, one in blu-ray and the other in blu-ray 3D?
Most BR3D titles include the standard 2D version as well. The actual 3D disc can only be played on 3D players.
Oh ok. Thank you.

The 3D players? I didn't know there was stuff like that. Feel old. Lol. But seriously, if that's the case, then does that mean ps3 or even ps4 don't play them, right? Lastly, is it best to get the whole collection, all versions, than just blu-ray/DVD? Like I never know if I want to see a movie in 3D.

The PS3 can play 3D blu-rays. Just need the equipment to watch it (glasses, 3D capable TV and hdmi cable, I believe).

Disney 3D blu-rays (probably all 3D blu-rays) usually have the requirements to view 3D on the back.

Oh ok. Thank you. I guess I'll start getting all diamond edition with all versions, just in case I or anyone in the family want to see 3D. Thank you, everyone.

The only exception right now is Oz: The Great and Powerful. No one knows why.

Word from a mod at blu-ray.com is the 3D disc also has 2D version included on it too.

I'm definitely getting the 3D version so that the lenticular cover matches the style on my copies of The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. So, I didn't even bother trying to order one of each in case the price doesn't drop. Also, I sure hope that they give Aladdin a similar treatment when they release it here, I really want those four films to all be in the same type of slipcase.

Although the way they did the coupon was annoying if you had gift card credit that you didn't want tied up with the preorder. I had to preorder something else to spend my $50 credit on, then go back and purchase TLM to get only the $5 coupon credit to apply. Of course I just cancelled that other preorder to get my credit back, but still.

I had the original Avatar 3d (panasonic offer) and that had the 2d and 3d versions on it as well. It can be done on a 50 gig blu ray, but most releases eat up space with extras. Plus they have to justify charging a bunch more for the 3d version.
Since this is somewhat related figured I'd ask this, but I'm very LTTP & was curious to know if there's a way I can still get the Pinocchio 2 Disc Blu Ray set (http://www.amazon.com/Pinocchio-Two-Disc-Anniversary-Platinum-Edition/dp/B001ILFUDM) under $70. Been looking everywhere for that shit but it seems I may be too late unless I want to spend a stupid amount of money. Thanks!
Plenty are selling in the used section for under $30.
