Hey guys, until recently I haven't really bought much through the XBLA. With the promotion/sales going on though, I've picked up some games. I'm just wondering what titles you guys think I should definitely pick up when I get the chance. What do you guys think?

I have:
Battlefield 1943
Uno
The Maw
Splosion Man
Ms. Splosion Man
Comic Jumper
Toy Soldiers
Laura Croft and the Guardian of the Light
Geometry Wars 2

Looking at picking up (either now or eventually):
Plants vs. Zombies
NBA Jam
Poker Night 2
Trials Evolution
Outland
Mark of the Ninja
Braid
Castle Crashers
BattleBlock Theater
Limbo

I'll vouch for Braid and Trials. I'll also add The Walking Dead, Shadow Complex, Pinball FX2, and Puzzle Quest as some of my personal favorites.

Limbo
Trials HD (and the sequel)
shadow complex
boom boom rocket
marble blast ultra
pac man CE and DX editions
Pinball FX2

I've played both Trails Evolution and Plants vs. Zombies and I have to say that they are both very addicting, I'm looking to get Castle Crashers as well so I'll get back to you on what I think about it.

I also would recommend NBA Jam On Fire Edition

I put a ton of hours in to in to it just playing single player and also vouching it with a buddy. Ton of fun

of those, i'd say Limbo, Braid, Trials EVO, Castle Crashers, and Battleblock Theatre are must-own.

other TRUE must-own XBLA games besides those, in my mind: Geometry Wars 2, Bastion, Castlevania: SOTN (if there's some way you haven't played it), 'Splosion Man, Fez, Dust: An Elysian Tale, Mega Man 9, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Spelunky, Minecraft (if you're into it, if not, then I understand and wouldn't recommend)

I've got Plants vs. Zombies on my 3DS, but I imagine it's more or less the same game; I'd definitely recommend it especially if you like "tower defense" style games.

All of the Sonic ports from the Genesis era are solid; nearly as good as the originals on the Genesis. Great platformers. I believe all of them (1, 2, 3, S&K, Spinball) are on the Ultimate Genesis Collection though, which you can probably get for the same price as buying each of those games separately.

Castle Crashers is a fun beat-em-up style game, I second that vote.

Settlers of Catan (just Catan on xbla) is a fairly faithful representation of the board game, I'd suggest it.

Carcassonne too (same as above).

Dead Rising: Case Zero is basically more of the same if you've played any of the other games in the series. Relatively short, it's a nice bite-size version.

Galaga.

Smash TV (not sure if this is available anymore).

Hexic HD (this came pre-installed on my launch 360 slim; maybe it's on all of them now by default?).

It also was available a few years ago for free on the Marketplace, since people bought systems without large hard drives and missed out on the game. They complained about missing out on it, so Microsoft eventually added it for free online.

Just checked, and it's still available.

You should download these free games:
Aegis Wing
Happy Wars (assuming you have Xbox Live Gold)

Some many to pick from. And many can be had for 400 space bucks.

Dead Rising: Case West
Shadow Complex
Pac Man CE DX (get Pac Man CE on arcade disk)
Axel and Pixel
Assault Hero's 1 & 2
Cloning Clyde
Galaga Legions
The Walking Dead
Kingdom for Keplings
Catan
Uno
Uno Rush

I am a sucker for old arcade games.

If you're going to get Plants vs. Zombies I'd suggest you look around for the hard copy, it's usually bundled with Peggle which is also a great game.

I agree!! It also includes Zuma. Also, pick up Xbox Live Arcade Compilation, which includes, Feeding Frenzy, Pac Man CE, Uno, Boom Boom Rocket and Luxor 2.

Mark of the Ninja was the best game on the console last year. Buy it.

Trials Evo, Walking Dead, The Pinball Arcade, Pac-Man CE and Pac-Man CE DX (different enough to warrant a purchase, in my book) are well worth it also.

Happy Wars is free and not terrible.

Some good suggestions. Have a monster list to go off of now. Thanks guys. Grabbed PvZ which is very addicting. Maybe I could eventually compile a list that people can vote for so other people can see CAG's opinions on must own XBLA games. If anyone would care, that is.

Anyway, I'll be buying Pacman and NBA JAM next week which leaves me needing one full priced title 600msp or more to complete the punch card. Anyone have a suggestion? Picking one that doesn't go on sale often would probably be good. Thinking about Poker Night 2.

Poker Night 2 will go on sale at some point, I bet you. I would wait. Honestly if you could only buy one, I would buy Castlevania: SOTN, which is going to be on sale for 320 points next week I think.

If it has to be over 600 points, on just one game, I'd just go for Battleblock Theatre.

I'll second that Castlevania Symphony recommendation. Just finished playing through it again this week to get all the achievements, and that game really is pretty timeless. Just as great now as it ever was.

Oh god as someone with 100+ arcade games there so many recommendations.
No one's mentioned Terraria? Ok, I will then, it's fantastic!
You know, I decided to buy Terraria over the weekend to go along with the My Punchcard Rewards program, and that I played and enjoyed the demo so much. Later when the birds started chirping and I was trying to sneak into bed AT 5:15 IN THE MORNING without waking my wife up she said to me "get into a good batch of porn or what?" "No," I replied "that would be easier to explain." :D

Even though they're not adding any DLC because of legal issues, I still have to recommend Pinball Arcade. I play it almost everyday.

Haha, that's funny. It's seriously addicting when you get into it. :)

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
Well I haven't finished it yet but I'm strongly leaning towards Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon on the basis since it's almost a retail game in downloadable arcade form (stripped of multiplayer and single player story - there's still a unique story though). Tons of bang for your buck, (the in-game map is pretty big, maybe even just a bit smaller than FC3), and its humor, story and gameplay is hilarious B-movie 80s-ness.
