Why haven't we blown the shit out of North Korea yet?

TOKYO - Japan has information that North Korea may be preparing for a nuclear test, a Defense Agency official said Friday, less than a week after Pyongyang is believed to have tested a short-range missile off its eastern coast.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, refused to specify the information or its source.

An official at the Foreign Ministry said Japan was exchanging information on North Korea with "concerned countries," but did not confirm that there were signs of an imminent test.

The New York Times on Friday reported that the White House and Pentagon officials were examining satellite photographs that suggest North Korea is making rapid preparations for a nuclear test.

The report, which cited unidentified American and foreign officials, also said that the U.S. had extensively briefed Japan and South Korea on the preparations.

Japanese officials refused to confirm they had been briefed on the possible test by the Americans.

Japan, which is in range of Pyongyang's missiles, has been working with the United States, South Korea and China to draw North Korea back to six-party talks on its nuclear weapons programs.

Pyongyang is boycotting the talks, and Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura told reporters on Friday that Tokyo could push to bring the case to the U.N. Security Council if there is no progress in the negotiations.

We haven't done anything aggressive with North Korea because it would cause China to respond. You know, World War 3 and all.

It seems like every time Kim Jong gets bored, he stirs up some nuclear talk.

Sadly, with the world we live in, a pre-emptive strike could be the end for Bush. He's forced to wait for North Korea to strike.

Honda need to build a "negotiation robot" that is magnetically sheilded and armed with a powerful surgical lazer that can cut therough flesh.

And sell it to the Japanese defense force.

for some reason the thought of countries having nuclear weapons doesnt bother me as much as countries having biological weapons but thats just my opinion.

But the US is the only country actively developing biological weapons, the middle eastern countries are bluffing.

That's just speculation and almost certainly not true. (that the U.S. is the only nation in the world developing)

Any attack on them would result in an immediate and likely devastating attack on south korea, puts japan at risk, and china (depending on how strong they truly believe they are) may become involved, though probably not. Also, they're much stronger militarily than Iraq and you'd do massive damage to the civilian population. And if they have nuclear weapons, the whole point of preventing their use is pretty much thrown out the window, considering how their country being attacked is the most likely scenario for their use. We also know relatively little about where anything is or what's going on in that country.

China does not want North Korea to have nukes.

And he's a thought, what the fuck do you think NK is going to do with the nukes? They tested a missle, and are now doing a test on a nuke. I rather blow them from the face of the earth now then wait a year when they hit first.

Pretty much what everyone does with nukes, use them for self defense. He knows he's a prime target for attack, and Iraq scared him (as well as Iran) even more.

yeah, i just don't understand why we don't blow up North Korea, i mean, Nuclear Entrenchment is a bunch of bullshit, right?

I mean, our axis of evil picked three countries, which one didn't have nukes? which one did we invade...

Pretty good rundown. North Korea has one of the largest armies in the world (2+ million soldiers) and they have hundreds and hundreds of artillery pieces aimed at Seoul, the South Korean capital and home to millions. If we attacked the North Seoul would be obliterated. There's no way we could knock out all their artillery. And that's not even taking into account their nuclear arsenal, which can be estimated at somewhere up to 15 weapons. Oh yeah, and they have missiles that can hit Japan as well as the other parts of South Korea. A preemptive attack would be insane at this point.

Because it's our new policy to bitchslap governments that cause no real threat and bend over and take it up the ass from those that do?

We won'd nuke them because the fallout will hit our "allies" but you think with all of this time we could have ploted with China to bump off Kim, he's a bigger threat to them than us.

I think we squandered that oportunity when we decided to invaded Iraq. Of course, someone on this board is gonna yell at me saying that what I said was stupid...blah blah blah...But I stand by what I say.
Please look at all the crap Iraq has stirred up. The American people would never stand behind it.
Do two in one shot.
Korea will have a missle that can reach the West Coast within years, and one that can already hit Japan. And in case you don't know history. Japan doesn't have a true army, we are there army. So I rather use our army to save millions of lives ahead of time.

How in the world do you save millions of lives when they aren't even in danger?

N. Korea isn't going to do anything with its nukes except sit of them and blackmail the rest of the world. Nuking the country would result in fallout that would spread into china, Japan and Russia. Invasion is always a nice costly option but you need a deployable army for that.

Well, it's nice to be able to attack a country when your civilians aren't the ones who'd suffer. And, lets be honest here, racist or not, the average american is much more willing to accept deaths as worthwhile when it's not white/european people dying, since they're not seen as "one of us".

Though as someone said, who's in danger? Even if you argued the north korean people, invading a country with a strong military will only result in more deaths and more danger, not less. Also, do you think kim jong il has a death wish or something? No normal (i.e. lacking an ulterior motive, such as the taliban and worldwide jihad) country is going to use a nuke as an offensive weapon without the military might to back it up. North korea knows that any use will result in its destruction, and it also knows that possesing nukes is the ultimate defense against it's invasion and destruction. It's fear of being attacked was raised with the Iraq war, nuclear weapons are the one way they can ensure it won't happen.

It would cause an international incident. Other than killings millions of innocent people....We'd piss off China and would be embroiled in a world war which would see all Arab nations turn their backs on us and attack when we were weakened and could no longer supply them with aid or support. Our friends would suddenly stop supporting us and we would be alone in conflict. We would be destroyed and our land would be split up among the victors. This is the reality of the situation.

It's kind of why North Korea wouldn't attack us. They know if they did they would have to deal with the world coming down on them.

Whomever makes the first move needs to be ready to die for their actions.
