It runs rather poorly. Playing the demo they have, I actually had the framerate drop so badly it was like the game froze (but didn't), possibly even zero frames. A shame too, because I really wanted it on the 3ds.

It's pretty rough. Grab the free demo from the eshop before buying.
 
If you have the Vita version of this, the 3DS version may bug you a bit. They took out a number of details. I got it pre-owned, but took it back because the cart was fudged-up. I got to the NiGHTS level in Grand Prix and that's where the cart went crazy, so there's no telling how the rest of the game looks.

This is the cheapest I've seen it new. Since I like 3D, I'll get it at under $15/new.

But, yes, they took out way too many details.
 
Not sure if it's true but I heard it was patched and the framerate is no longer an issue. Graphics are not so great but honestly that doesn't matter too much because the gameplay is really fun. If it was patched then...

It wasn't patched. The 3DS received a 'stability' system update and people claimed that framerate improved on many games, including this one.

The update did nothing to bit trip runner on mine.

Just found that out myself while researching it. Anyway it's supposed to run a lot better now, at least for most people.

I got it for $20 at a Sony Store.

Not only does the game run poorly, it skips when it's loading a new part of the track. They really tried to get something done here but it doesn't work.

PC version is the best by far, I'd get it for that unless you absolutely need a portable version.

PC version doesn't have any framerate/slowdown issues (runs at 60+ FPS as long as your rig is decent) and has the best exclusive characters.

EDIT: I should also add that the PC version gets way more support than the console and handheld versions. It got a decent amount of patches that fixed a lot of things.

Console version then, PS3 specifically? Or Does this games slow on all versions?
 
I have the game on vita and while it obviously doesn't run as well or look as good as the console/PC versions, it gets the job done. I wanted a portable racer and it fits the bill perfectly. I tried the 3DS demo and it was HORRIBLE. I wouldn't even play it for free.
 
I'm still waiting for the console versions to drop. Modnation and LBP Karting never clicked with me, but I need something new after maxing out every thing in Mario Kart Wii. Are there any other kart racers worth playing that I'm forgetting?
