This happened to me when I had an item in my cart that was part of the daily special. I've heard that weekly special items cause this as well. Hope this helps.

I believe it's to do with item availability. Only the ones that are very ready to be shipped let you apply the coupon. Something like "usually shipped in 3-5 days" are no good for coupon.

While it is definitely true that these (non-24h) items will prevent you from being able to use the coupon, I found I was still able to at least get to the advanced options menu that displays the code entry box. With items that are part of a special, the advanced options menu seems to completely disappear, which is a slightly different issue than just having the coupon code rejected.
