Have you ever been fingerprinted for trading in a used game?

Anyone remember the guy who stole his neighbors PS2 and games, then traded it to EB? EB made the wall of shame on ABC news website...

Well that story might have something to do with this fingerprint, still kinda too much.. drivers license number should suffice.

I never have, and if I am ever told to do it, I will take my buisness else where. I dont want to be treated like a criminal when I want to trade in a game.

Not for video games, but once when I sold a cd to a cd shop, I only had an out of state license and they required a fingerprint. No big deal.

Yeah, it's something thats been around in CA & FL for about ten years now; however, it has never been really enforced. They typically only ask for a print if you have no valid ID (or out of state) or they are suspicious.

No, but I have been asked for my state ID each time I've done it (unless I'm already in their computer like Saturday Matinee), along with my address, phone number and signature. It's a hassle, but I can see why they do so.

Like a few months ago when I traded in probably 13-14 GC, PS2 and GBA games to the Saturday Matinee to get an Xbox (the credit came pretty close, $151.50, I only had to pay $42.55 for the system in cash), I can fully understand why they would want all of that information from me. If I were working there, I might be a bit on-guard when someone trades in a who lot of material.

Fingerprinting might be going a little too far, though, and I can't imagine that this would help anyone who has had their property stolen recently get their stuff back by fingerprinting. If they decide to fingerprint customers in a lot more stores, perhaps they can mask this by promotion.

What I mean is, if you're a frequent trader, make them put a fingerprint on a card, and when they present this store ID card, they could get 5% or so extra credit or 5% off their purchase. I think providing incentive is a good way not to scare off potential traders (that do not possess stolen property) that may think that their information will be sold or something like that.

They now require it at my Gamestop in Pinole, CA, and what's even worse is you ahve to be at least 18! (No way I am going to force my mom to go through that, have to find other places to sell my wares.)

Yea last time i traded in games at my local store they took my Driver's license number down, then asked me if it would be ok to finger print me, then they asked me if they could strip search  and probe me  . LOL

Were they courteous enough to warm the probe first?

Sounds like a good idea to me. It won't prevent them from selling them on ebay, but would-be thieves may think twice before stealing if they know their fence will require a thumbprint.

It's not like your giving them your left arm or anything, it's just a fingerprint for cryin' out loud. It's for the store's protection, AND YOURS!

If a store asked for a finerprint, I wouldn't trade my games in there. I know it's more of a deterrent than anything but it's not something I would feel comfortable doing.

I wouldn't mind. If it better helps catch theiving bastards, then go for it. If you haven't done anything wrong, then they can't trace anything to you.
