Anyone connect to Monster.com via facebook? If so...

Seems like a bad idea to me. It immediately lets potential employers know that you have a Facebook account. My it's just me still thinking in college mode, but I always thought that it was a bad idea to let employers know you have social media accounts. Most of us used to change our Facebook names when we had resumes out.

Nothing wrong with it. Unless you have photos of you taking a bong hit. (In which case, youre too stupid to get hired. And i dont mean the weed.)

They'll probably check anyway.

Back when I had a Facebook, I had all kinds of pictures of me doing beer bongs or shotgunning beers. You can trust that I wasn't the one to take them or put them on Facebook, but they wound up there and I was tagged in them. Yes, I went in and untagged myself, but it took me a few days to do it.

The point is that everybody does dumb shit from time to time. I would sure hate to lose a good job opportunity just because a prospective employer saw pictures of me being drunk at a party.

The way I see it, my personal life (in most cases) is none of my employer's business. And if they want to know something, they can ask me directly rather than stalking me on a social networking site. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but in today's market with 300 applicants and only 2 jobs, I wouldn't take any chances.
Well, I don't party or anything so I'm not worried about that. Thanks for the feedback.
I just used partying as an example. Really, they can use anything on Facebook against you. You better hope you have the same political affiliation as the recruiter...

The mistake you're making is that you think employers only check your Facebook if you tell them about it. They're gonna look you up.

Once you've put yourself on Facebook, it's no longer your personal life.

Can't you set your stuff to private, plus won't it take a while if you're called John Smith or something?

Setting your stuff to private will just prompt them to ask you to make it public. But if you change your name spelling to something clever and don't put your face for your profile picture, they'll never know it's you.

And that's when they wonder: "what is wrong with this guy, he doesn't even have a facebook profile? must be hiding something."

Now, I'm not saying it's right. But it's true.

That's cute that you see it that way.

You must have had some pretty shitty employers if you don't. Some of us actually get treated like human beings at work.

Sorry, this almost made me lol as much as the response you are quoting. If you only knew.

I read in a job hunting book that Monster.com and Careerbuilder have a 3% success rate. Those websites are in the business of mining information about you.

So adding them to facebooks sounds like a horrible idea.

You could just tell them no. I've been asked to do that by potential employers before and I always tell them no. I've always thought that setting your stuff to private shows that you intend to keep your personal and business lives separate.
