Sound system speakers with detachable cables?

I've been thinking about getting a sound system with a sub woofer and a couple speakers, but all the sets I've seen have these flimsy looking wires that are directly connected to each speaker and they look like they could easily be mangled. I love the fact that my headphones' cable can be easily replaced, I was wondering if anybody knows of a home theater setup that has speakers with detachable cables, or do they exist? It could just be a two speaker setup or a surround system, and anywhere between $100-$300 preferably. A sound bar could work too if that has what I'm looking for, I'm not very savvy with home theater systems.

Nice looking speakers, wish I could see how it's connected in the back. I was hoping for 3.5mm to 3.5mm or RCA red and white cable connections, but speakers with replaceable cables use spades or banana plugs?

It has a 5 way binding post according to the spec sheet. Just like a speaker should.

Generic example:

Sweet, so it does actually seem like the cables could be easily replaced, and banana plugs are the way I'd wanna go. Thanks for the info.

I'm really not sure what you're asking here. Pretty much all surround sound receivers and speakers use detachable speaker wire... the only difference is the terminal but they all use red (positive) and black (negative) connections, thought the colors too can be different since they don't really matter, they're just there to distinguish the terminals.

Something like this would fit your bill.

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3500-5-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B0077V88V8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373129728&sr=8-1&keywords=htib

You can buy banana plugs separately from Monoprice.

Well the speakers I've seen are connected internally, rather than having a five way binding post like in the picture above each speaker has a cable running out of it which is something I don't want. I'm a total noob when it comes to sound systems so I wasn't sure if that was the standard.

Oh, gotcha. Yeah, there are speakers like that but usually, that's reserved for cheaper speakers/sound systems.

A HTIB (home theater in a box) is a good place to start for a first time surround sound system. Some of these come with built in DVD/BD players, do not get those kinds. Those suck. You want one with a stand alone receiver and a powered subwoofer (meaning it needs it's own wall outlet and thus, has it's own power source).

Ignore the Onkyo I posted earlier, that one was a passive subwoofer (meaning the receiver powers the subwoofer). A powered subwoofer will give you much cleaner bass.

I don't see any good HTIBs  in your price range at the moment but they may go on sale at some point. Or you can just buy a speaker set and get a receiver but even that's slightly over your budget. You might have to look around for a better price.

Additionally, you do not need banana plugs or any other type of connector... those are just for convenience or if you need to plug/unplug speakers often. You'll see no improved performance in using banana plugs versus hooking up the speakers directly.

Hi everyone,  I was also looking at getting HTIB setup 5.1 surround sound.  Two setups that caught my eye were:

Does anyone know about either system?  Or are there any recommendations for a decent 5.1. system (Vinny, would the two you recommend be better than the S3500 or another Onkyo HTIB)?

Thanks in advance!

He said that Onkyo setup you linked has a passive subwoofer and a powered one would give cleaner bass, but I'm still considering it myself, at least to start with. I could always get something like this http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-SKW204-Reflex-Powered-Subwoofer/dp/B000HMLP5A/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1373958570&sr=1-1&keywords=powered+subwoofer+onkyo later when I have extra cash. Also he said to avoid the ones with built in DVD/Blu-Ray players, and it looks like that Samsung one you linked has that.
