PS3 Slim 320GB -REFURBISHED by SONY - : $199.99/free ship now at SONY: also eligible for SONY extended warranty

Dang. I put a preorder down on a GTA V super slim bundle for only $269. I'm tempted by this just because I prefer the slim model over the super slim.... but I'll prob have to pass. Maybe if this was brand new as opposed to refurbished...

Damn, if I hadn't just bought a 750GB HDD to replace my 80GB PS3 phat just the other day, I would be all over this.

But being refurbed by the original manufacturer is like new.

Here is the info from SONY on this:

"Slim, light and quiet, the PS3™ system comes with free access to the PlayStation®Network, built-in Wi-Fi, Blu-ray Disc™ player and a 320GB hard disk drive to store games, music, videos and photos.
PS3 refurbished units have been fully reconditioned and certified by PlayStation and carry the same warranty as a brand new product."

The thing with refurb's though is the parts inside. When they refurbish something, they only replace/fix what needs to be done. So while you might get a console that has a new hard drive, and new disk drive, it might have a year old motherboard already. Just something to keep in mind.

WARRANTY

and plus it's a PS3....reliable.

I have had a Slim since they were released, regular use...not a problem.

Wow, I am starting to sound like a company spokesperson!

Same thing can be said about buying NIB slims. Besides, the only thing that happened to my slim is the BR laser died in mine. Got it fixed for free from Sony and it has been chugging along fine ever since.

Oh, don't get me wrong I totally understand that this is a good deal. Refurbished does mean practically new when its being sold by the original party. And the warranty seals the deal.

But right now I'm looking at $269 for a brand new console and a brand new $60 game with the GTA V bundle. So it's basically do I get a $200 refurbished or a $210 brand new? Even though its the super slim, it is 500GB vs 320GB. Just enough to get the edge for me.

lol, I never said anything about reliability or warranty... just said  "Something to keep in mind". My 20gb fatty is still going strong too.  ;) Can a new motherboard fail? yes. Is an older one the more likely of the two to fail? Probably

Got one to replace my 40gb which just got the YLOD. Sold the 40gb for $90 as-is, so this will only cost me a little over $100.

Except NIB Slims won't have a year of wear on their capacitors.

How is this deal? Has CAG found better before?

I've been PC all generation, but Sony has really impressed me and now I am looking for a PS4.

I picked up Demon Souls, MGS4, Uncharted series, God of War Saga, and Red Dead Redemption off of Craigslist for cheap. I'm going to be getting MGS Legacy and Last of Us eventually as well.

Checked with SONY support on live chat and these ARE eligible for their extended protection plans.

Here is the chat transcript:

chat_agent.png
Garrett H.: If you are purchasing it from Sony directly and it has a Sony Factory refurbished sticker on it, it would be eligible for the protection plan.
chat_enduser_message.png
Tim Romig: so it would come with the year warranty and be eligible for extended protection plan correct?
chat_agent.png
Garrett H.: Yes, that is correct.

So there is even more incentive.

Probably gonna get one for my son seeing as his is a few years old.

How much is the extended protection plan? How would you apply it to this product?
It covers the PS3 for 1-2 years after your 1 year standard warranty expires. You can buy it at any point for 1 year after your original purchase.

Truth be told, most issues show up within 1 year of regular use with these consoles. Everything else usually falls just outside the extended warranty. That's how they get you. However it is good for peace of mind.

Very tempting, but I also think I'll hold out for a deal on a new bundle.  I'm in no rush to have one right now so I will wait for a good price/game combo.

Is it a given that there will be a substantial price drop on the PS3 this coming holiday?

I thought SONY said no on this???

Ugh i know this is for a different system but i had 3 of the Sony-refurbed 60gigs die on me. With moderate use in a well-ventilated environment. Eventually one lasted more than 90 days before crapping out and I got stuck with it. This was well after the 320g slim came out though so maybe they didnt have much to work with

i bought this last week. the slim 320 gb ps3 came in few days ago.

it comes in a sony ps3 refurbished white box.

console looks new. the controller looks and feels new.

the cords are sealed in a plastic wrap. looks new.

with a manual that is in the same plastic with the cords.

i opened up the sony credit card and made the purchase so the total was

for me 214 but i should get $100 credit back after a month or so.

so total i am spending or putting on the card was 114.

the credit card approval was instant.

i should cancel the credit card afterwards lol

Does anyone recommend getting the extended warranty?
Yes, I would go with squaretrade.com though, their warranty for 3 yrs on a $199 gaming console is barely $20. They always have active offers for 30% off their warranties.

My old fat PS3 model went out after 3 years they refunded me via paypal, no questions asked.

SquareTrade Warranties are not eligible with this purchase, I just asked them.

Your comment:
I'm considering the purchase of a Sony Playstation 3 refurbished system sold direct from Sony's online store. Would it be eligible for a warranty through you even though it's refurbished? Sony gives the same 1 year warranty as a new console, but I'd rather get a warranty through you for added protection. The system price would be $199.99. Thanks![/SIZE]

So I would expect if SquareTrade was an option during checkout it would be fine. Sony wouldn't do that however because they want to sell you their plan instead.

Now if Sony had an eBay account and sold refurbished systems, you could buy one and buy a SquareTrade warranty for it. They just ask for the ebay item number at time of checkout.

I'm still tempted to buy one, but I'm looking elsewhere for new systems at a similar price point. I want to keep this at $200 if possible. I already own a Vita with PS+, and I would only be using this for the PS+ benefits. I own a Xbox 360 which I plan on trading in at the end of the year towards a PS4 system. I have a 360 backlog as long as my arm I'm slowly chipping through until then.

FYI, they are temporarily out of stock, but still taking orders.

I'm in the market for a replacement system as well. Been scouring eBay for the last few days, it doesn't seem difficult to get a used system / bundle for ~200, regardless of the extras, HD or system model. Definitely wish that brand new Assassin's Creed III bundle for $230 from newegg came back, but I doubt it will.

I'm likely going with eBay soon since the 500GB model seems to go for a little above $200+ shipping, but still crossing my fingers on a good deal coming up within a few weeks.

It's come back at least a few times already. I just wish they would've had it on their website, since then at least I could price match at a B&M store.

Mine arrived today. Opened the box to check that everything was there. System and controller look brand new. I'm in the process of moving so I won't be hooking up and trying it for a few days. I'm sure it will work lol.

I ordered one of these shortly after the OP posted this deal but it was listed as temporarily out of stock.  Has anyone else purchased one that was out of stock and received it yet?  Sony doesn't have a firm date on when or if they'll be getting them back.
