Buying a WiiU @ Shoppers. Looking for Advice.

Eoyote

CAGiversary!
I have very little experience with Shoppers Rewards system so I'm looking for advice on how to get the most out of my points. I had originally thought I could redeem 2 different point levels, covering most of the cost of the system and then pay the rest with cash. Of course, I know now you can't redeem twice on the same transaction.

So, what would be my best option here?

-Buy during a 20x event. Would cost more out of pocket, but I'd receive a chunk of points I could then redeem for games/accessories.

-Buy during a spend your points event which would only save me about $30 as the top tier is usually 95,000 for $170 ($200 during event lately)

-Buy when/if Nintendo ever drops the MSRP. This I'm not too keen on as everyone assumes a drop is coming (which is logical) but at the same time still really up in the air. Not to mention I'm not even sure Shoppers would adjust their prices to reflect a price drop seeing as how everything else they sell is quite overpriced.

What do you think? (besides the obvious "don't buy a WiiU").

How many points do you have?

Shoppers also gives out 20% off coupons if you sign up for their newsletter thing and they also give you bonus point coupons or events every week (Note that they will cap the discount at $50 or so on any item with the 20% off, at least the fine print says that but maybe if the cashier doesn't quite know what they are doing it would get you more.)

I just bought a Wii U a week ago. I used 95,000 points for the $170 off the system on a day where they were giving a bonus 20x points as you stated. I then proceeded to get points on the remaining balance I paid for, which worked out to another 38,000 points. That's $60 which we all know is enough for a game.

I also got PS3 on the same day. In total I spent $340 after tax, got a PS3 bundle, Wii U deluxe and an additional $85 in credit which will be used for a new game/controller or saved towards a PS4.

I have just over 160,000 points.

I guess buying during 20x is better unless they tack on another $60 to the top tier redemption level. Waiting for a price drop or buying during a senior's day/using a coupon feels like a double-edged sword. Yes, I'll spend less out of pocket, but I'll receive less points to spend on games or accessories.

I wish they would just let me spend the entire pool of points so I didn't have to think about it
