Updated 8/13/13 11:17am CST, The First Octet is now 4E: instead of 40: Also Primary MACS are no longer ending in :50+ so check MAC Address Spreadsheet for the update. Added an inexpensive wireless router/repeater that can do this right out the box, so getting this will probably be the easiest way for those having trouble. Also few minor details tweaked. And remember, attwifi as the SSID

HOW-TO Have a homemade Streetpass Relay GBAtemp sticky Probably the best place to ask for help at this point.

Original GBAtemp Thread

Over at this GBAtemp thread (moved to top of post), we've came up with a way to fool our routers to behave like Streetpass Relay Stations and we're pulling Streetpass tags from other 3DS users all over the world who are using this same method. Now this isn't exactly tunneling as this works like a regular Relay Station. You get the guy or gals data who was before you and you leave your data for the next person. This isn't pretty but I'll give you the gist and hopefully some one can answer questions better than I can if you can't connect.

Ok first thing you need is an access point you can spoof the Wireless LAN MAC address of. This can include:

  • A SANOXY® Wireless-N Wifi Repeater 802.11N (No hacking needed. These would be great to daisy chain with you existing router setup)Product Link
  • A router with DD-WRT firmware(my personal choice). supported routers, Tutorial by FearItSelf23 or Open WRT supported routers, setup post by doxzilla
  • An Android device like a phone that you can make a hotspot and spoof the Wireless Lan MAC. (No guides and varies by device)
  • A Linux box with both a wired (to internet) and Wireless (for your 3DS) connections.) Guide
  • A Windows PC with the same setup as Linux with the dual connections. (XP/Vista Guide, Windows 7 and 8 GBAtemp Tutorial Post)
  • MACOSX with same setup as Linux GBAtemp Post Tutorial
  • Somebunny and dicamarques from GBAtemps are possibly making a LiveCD of Linux so Windows users and those having difficulty can do this easier (more news to come hopefully)
OK, so most of us should know the trick to making our routers (or hotspots) Nintendo Zones, but for the unenlightened you set the SSID to a known Nintendo Zone SSID and set the security to disabled or off. The easiest SSID to use is

attwifi

so set you're SSID to this with security off. If you're concerned about leaving you're security here's little rough tutorial I wrote to Furubashi about how to do this with security on your network so you're not wide open. It's far more stubborn recognizing the Nintendo Zone then just leaving you're router open for me anyways.

Next you need to spoof you Wireless LAN MAC. Your mileage may vary with this and I don't know every way to do this, but I'll tell you how I did it and it works.

I have a DD-WRT firmware flashed router. Once I've setup my Nintendo Zone, I click on the Setup Tab. The I click on the MAC Address Clone Tab. In the new screen click Enable under MAC Clone. You'll be given 2 MAC addresses. One for your router (Clone WAN MAC) and for your Wireless LAN (Clone Wireless MAC). Change your Clone Wireless MAC (ignore Clone WAN MAC) to the following MAC address:

4E:53:50:4F:4F:46

Save changes and now your ready to Rock and Roll. Turn on your 3DS make sure you're seeing a Nintendo Zone is near by and you have Internet Access in the the top left corner of your Screen. Put your 3DS in sleep mode and usually in about 2 minutes if everything works you will have received a Streetpass. Now you're 3DS will have an 8 hour-ish cooldown period just like when you really streetpass someone or visit an actual Streetpass relay station. At this point you can restore your router settings back and disable the MAC Cloning.

15 more MACS have been setup to be used as well. Just change the Cloned Wireless MAC Address to one listed in the MAC Address Spreadsheet being maintained by/u/FatMagic. When you change it, you will not be subjected to the cool down period for the new MAC you're using, just for the MACs you've already used. Also considering delaying 5 to 10 minutes if you're going to use one MAC after another to avoid issues with repeating Mii's not wanting to pass because they're already in your queue. Or you can just unload your Plaza queue after each pass to avoid this.

If you're looking for a good router that's DD-WRT compatible: Linksys WRT54GL from Newegg, however the A SANOXY® Wireless-N Wifi Repeater 802.11N is probably a better choice at this point because it can natively do this.

Special thanks to somebunny for figuring out the Wireles LAN was the identifier (I feel terrible for forgetting this originally). duke_srg at GBAtemp for coming up with the 40:53:50:4F:4F:46 MAC address (which spells at @SPOOF in plain text, but please use the new Primaries instead of this) and /u/FatMagic (Tane at GBAtemps) for maintiaining the spreadsheet.

I got it working using this method.

http://gbatemp.net/threads/homepass-chaldrons-mac-cycler-for-windows.352935/

This is for if your computer (win7/8) is hooked up wired and has a free wifi. Looking at you laptop users. The way of connecting is on the 2nd post. And you can use the mac cycler to automate that mac cycling process.

Here is the link to the various other methods.

http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-have-a-homemade-streetpass-relay.352645/
is there a max cycler available for non-windows solutions?

b/c on windows it rocks.

Just want to get it working on another patform.

On the second link all the alternate options are really Linux (haven't tried the script) and the router script (haven't tried either, don't have my WRT54GL router atm).

Actually, I'll have to retract my post. Upon closer inspection, I'm able to connect the 3ds to the internet using the virtual router method. However when changing MAC addresses, I can change my physical wifi adapter's but not the virtual wifi adapter's. In order for this to truly work both the physical and virtual wifi adapters must have the same MAC address, which is impossible for me atm.

I guess I'll just wait for my WRT54GL to be returned to me.

Anyone want to go back and forth on changing 3DS State location? I'll change to Hawaii, you change to Hawaii; we StreetPass each other, then move on....

All I have left is

Delaware
Indiana
Louisiana
Missouri
Montana
Nebraska
North Dakota
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
South Dakota
Vermont
Wyoming

I think I SPed you yesterday. Unless that's another WiiDSmoker from Alaska (the state it said at the time).

That is me! I live in TN; but changed my location to Alaska to help people obtain a streetpass from that location. Which Mii is yours? Would you mind helping me complete the remaining 10 USA locations I need?

Puerto Rico

PLEASE!

I'll change my state from CA to one of those then change it again after a few days. Changed it to Montana for now. My Mii gives the about.me page (the one in my custom user title) as the greeting.

I got 10 consecutive days today, so I was thinking to stop for 30 days, but maybe I should just keep going while this still works.

Wow thank you so very much!!! I can't seem to figure out whom your Mii is though? What is your Friend Code? Mine is 3136-6681-1945. Be sure to add me :)

What USA locations are you needing?

Awesome it shows you on my friend list now. I just got SP'd from someone in Oklahoma wooo!!

Are you wanting any specific location?

I hope my logging in/out on the 3DS won't annoy you. I literally change MAC Address every 2 minutes and it goes for 24/7 so i've been SPing people like crazy!!

I'd have to check my map, but I think I had about 18 states left. I have to do my SPing either late at night or early in the morning since other people use the wireless here and it reboots my router every time it switches MACs.

I need a way to do this that doesn't interfere with everyone else who needs to get online. I might try another method with an old laptop, but it only has XP and I don't have one of those USB wifi connectors and the "netsh wlan sethostednetwork" command doesn't work in XP, so I don't know how to set it up.

Unfortunately I'm not sure either. I had an old router that I was able to put DD-WRT on. Then once it was on there; there's a simple script that changes the MAC Address every 2 minutes.

I have street passed you alot also.

some times you sp me multiple times in my 10 person collect.

I have also streetpassed Mirand 3days ago

I just checked it is only 3 times... doesn't sound right to me but whatever. tagged wiid 2 days ago.

South Dakota
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Louisiana
West Virginia
Vermont
Puerto Rico

I've been leaving my 3DS on 24/7 to help others complete puzzles, etc, would love some help in return :)

Has anyone gotten this to work successfully on OSX? I can get the Nintendo Zone working but I haven't gotten any Street Pass hits.

Sorry, can't help with OSX. I'm using the router method and don't own a Macbook anymore.

---------

A friend of mine says he got my StreetPass tag today even though I haven't hit any MACs since Thursday morning - weird! I wonder how my tag was able to stay on one MAC for so long. I figured with all of the people doing this, it would get hit right away.

Can someone please take 30 minutes to help me complete the remaining 9 USA regions? I'm not asking for a lot. And I'll gladly help you in return....

Really getting frustrated here

WiiDSmoker, I street passed you nearly 70 times before I got bored of the streetpass games. My username is Katsup.

Do you get anything for completing a region other than the accomplishment?

Would you mind helping? :)

Update!!

7 regions left

Hey guys, it's me WiiDSmoker.

I have 7 USA regions left to complete. Would anyone like to help? All you have to do is change your 3DS region in Setting temporarily. I would truly appreciate it as I've been Street Passing every 2 minutes for 24/7 for the last 2 weeks. I haven't been able to play any games at all when trying to do this.

attwifi I assume. Send me an email when you street pass me and I will move onto the next state.

what about the marianias islands? or us virgin islands?

I would like to know if you could download the maps for like russia, norway ect. the ones I don't have maps for that would be nice.

so Brazil doesn't have a map I thought it was b/c er where not in the region to get the map. i.e. only allowed to have 6 maps

so you don't get the map for x b/c you have the 7 maps we selected for your region of 3ds that was sold at retail.

I'm sorry, i.e. norway, russia, Sweden, China, Brazil even though I have more then 1 region for those.

Bumping this up to say that I've never been able to get this to work with my DD-WRT router. Nintendo Zone comes up but I don't get any StreetPasses at all. Any suggestions? I'm actually using two routers to do this... one for my internet connection and the other as my StreetPass spoof.

Need help.   Just set this up yesterday afternoon using a USB TP Link connected to my system and MacCycle.   I got quite  few hits when I initially set it up (although I got a LOT of repeats), but then around 5pm, I stopped getting any hits at all.  I turned MapCycle off, then tried loaded it again this morning and I've gone through 2 cycles already and still nothing.  What's up with that?
