I'll be honest, I was kinda sad that I missed out on this deal / glitch. I was busy all day yesterday so I didn't see the deal get posted and by the time I checked it was dead. I mean I have the prestige edition preordered but it would nice to get it for that much cheaper.
With that being said, the likelihood that Best Buy will honor this deal is slim to none. They would be losing $80+ dollars on each order. For some perspective, if they allowed 100 orders to go through that is $8,000, 500 orders would be $40,000, and 1,000 orders would be $80,000. From someone who works in the business world (accountant), what would they attribute a $45,000 or greater loss on their books to? Cost of goods will be higher while sales or income will be lower, resulting in less profits or a net loss. How do businesses function? Profits. Why does Best Buy need to honor this when they can easily cancel it. I am sure that there is some clause in their online agreement that says they have the right to cancel orders due to pricing errors as well.
For those of you who believe heavily in tl;dr, this deal is not going to happen.
Yes I believe almost every company has a clause nowadays that allows them to terminate a promotion or bundle at any time for no specific reason, as well as a clause that allows them to cancel orders placed due to pricing error. Unlike previous pricing errors, Best Buy actually acted pretty quickly in removing this bundle product error which somewhat prevented this from becoming a heavily abused deal. By their own clause, they most definitely do not have to honor any of the placed orders, but by no means does that mean they won't end up honoring them. Best Buy has taken some very big hits over the years due to pricing errors or system glitches, and in my personal experience they have always fulfilled those orders (even when the games ended up being completely free). In this specific case, most of their loss will stem from the physical content and not the digital content included in this bundle. I wouldn't doubt that Best Buy lost more money to the pricing error of the Disney Infinity packs (since from what I read people heavily abused that error) than they would with this bundle being honored (then again there is no real way of knowing because we don't have the sale figures).
We all know what Best Buy should do in regards to their own terms, but what makes this a gamble is the fact that we don't know what Best Buy decision will be. You may absolutely be correct with your assumption that they will cancel these orders, but if they don't it wouldn't be the first time people swore that there was no way Best Buy would ever honor these orders and they ended up doing it. I personally am all for taking this gamble, as worst case scenario I end up with free points. Which is another reason why this may work in our favor as per their own system these orders are "partially" completed, and they are less likely to reverse a transaction that has partially been completed opposed to one that hasn't been processed at all. Once again, there is no science behind my statements, just speaking from personal experiences.
Everyone knows that Best Buys system is flawed, to the point that people have been calling it the next "Circuit City" etc. Best Buy's business model suffers so tremendously because they compartmentalize their departments (they also out-source specalized departments) so much so that they are completely isolated and do not efficiently communicate with one another, which causes a lot of the mistakes as well as the prolonged time in fixing those given mistakes. In the end of the day, the majority of Best Buy's revenue stems from service plans, extended warranty, and protection plans so regardless of whether or not they fulfill these orders Best Buy will make up for the lost profits.
