I just picked up a version 1001 PSP here on CAG, and I'm looking for some good RPG's or just generally great games I should get for it. I'm completely oblivious to anything PSP, so any advice would would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same model.

I've spent at least 150 hours on all the YS games on the PSP. YS Ark of Napishtim, YS Oath in Felghana, and YS Seven.

They're really solid games.

There are a couple Tales of games on the PSP too that might interest you. Tales of Eternia was one of the best action RPG games I've played.

You need to get a copy of Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicle. The game is easily one of the best values on the PSP, and a fine title as well. It is a 3D remake of a game that was never properly released in the West. The game is a transition title between the original style of Castlevania, and the more open-level Symphony of the Night. And as an added bonus, both the original Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night can be unlocked in the game. That's easily 60+ hours of gaming in one PSP disc. And the game can usually be found at most used game stores for less than $20.

On the RPG front, an easy recommendation is Jean D'Arc. This is a very good traditional JRPG with a fantastic art style and story. It got a decent print run, which makes it much more common than many other PSP RPGs, and can usually be found for less than $10.

The PSP requires a bit of searching when it comes to it's library. But if you are diligent, there are a wealth of great titles that can be had. Also, don't forget that the PSP is compatible with PSN, and the PSP and PS1 digital on-line offerings will all run on it. Find a cheap 8-Gig memory stick pro duo and you're set.

Jeanne d'Arc isn't a traditional RPG. It's a strategy RPG.

Final Fantasy is what you call a traditional RPG where you have random battles in a large world. Jeanne d'Arc or Final Fantasy Tactics is strategy RPG where you follow dialogue and battle in a grid.

(Shrug) Fair enough. But it's still an RPG, from Japan, with a fantastic art style, story, and is cheaper than $10. I accept your re-classification, but my recommendation stands. Definitely get a copy of Jean D'Arc.

While the PSP tapered off pretty hard in the West, it managed to do much better in Japan, largely thanks to the success of Monster Hunter. Because of this, the system is very strong when it comes to Japanese-flavored titles and localized imports. JRPGs and J-Strategy-RPGs abound on the PSP.

And speaking of Strategy-RPGs, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together are really solid options. Both are localized and updated versions of classic PS1 Strategy RPGs. The localization in particular has been revisited and improved for both games, so the story is easier to follow and understand in the PSP versions.

I personally also enjoy the Patapon and Loco Roco series, but I really appreciate interesting art styles in my games. Also, Lumines is a no-brainer when it comes to puzzle games, it's definitely worth pursuing the two PSP Lumines games.

Fate extra for the psp is one of the few  psp games i still play. loved that game. tempted to get it for my  VITA but dont want to spend 15 for it

Crisis Core - an action RPG spinoff of FFVII

Persona 3 Portable - 1/3 dungeon crawl, 1/3 high school, 1/3 social - I loved this game for the combat system and the social link interaction, but others dislike it for the same reason

What games have you gotten?

I've been playing the heck out of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and Jeanne d'Arc. The former is one of the most well-written, immersive worlds I've ever experienced in a video game while the latter has wonderful art stylings and provides a cool spin on a well-known story.

You can't go wrong with Lunar and Star Ocean, too. Both are remakes of classic RPGs.

Non-RPG I highly recommend Twisted Metal: Head On. Probably the 2nd best Twisted Metal game made (first is, of course, Twisted Metal Black).
