I still want this system. Every time I get ready to sell a game I always have to look through piles of cords and controllers just to make sure it's all clean and working properly before shipping it. This would make my life so much easier. I'm still waiting on the price to drop though >_<

I actually saw both grey and black versions at my local FYE for $139.99. They had about 5 in stock.

It's a great concept but I don't like the controller. It's also tough as hell to get cartridges out of the cart slot. What were they thinking? Am I the only one who had this problem?

The controller is garbage.  You *need* to have original controllers.

Yes, the slots are also pretty bad.  Too tight.

Fortunately you don't have to use the pack in controller for much at all; I use the home button to pull me out of a game but otherwise it's not necessary. The cartridges being too tight is a known issue, the slots do loosen up a little with use but neither of mine have ever really gotten comfortable. I'd suggest taking a junk cart and putting it in and taking it out over and over again to speed up the loosening up process. I swear my Final Fight Guy cartridge's pins were scratched by the system it was so tight early on.

Agreed. Luckily there's a little classic gaming store a few towns away that I do bi-monthly shopping at. I went and bought all the controllers I need for less than $20.

I saw a recent customer review where they said the newest batch of the RetroN5 fixed the tight catridge slot issue.  Is there any validty to this?  Thank you.

yea but it wasn't really a issue to begin with it just that most people were trying to pull the game out from the middle. When all you have to do is pull on one end and it slides right out

Whoa wait, these are finally coming back in stock? Noticed Amazon is taking pre-orders through fulfillment of stone age for $130ish each for both colors. Not sure how long that will last.

It's just that simple.

There's something comical about the idea of emulator authors complaining about a company using their code without permission.

Has anyone had problems with their genesis slot pins raising up (or loosening)? I've heard the stories of the pins ripping out, but some of mine seem to have raised up or loosened compared to other pins. I'm a little concerned.

Thanks

A lot of people have mentioned problems with the slots. Just Google it. This is one of several reasons why I skipped the system, seems to be be very poorly manufactured.

That was the slot to go on my Retron5.  I returned it under warranty, and so far have been good on my second one.

I heard the 2nd batch of consoles are using higher quality pins. If you are still in the warranty phase you could hall Hyperkin and have them RMA it.  I'm waiting on my console to come back hopefully I get it this week.

I ordered it from amazon about 3 weeks ago or so, so I hope it's the new batch. The genesis slot is much tighter than the other slots. It's still working fine but I'm scared the genesis slot will end up breaking sooner or later.

If you want roms on an SD card, just build your own console...

I got one of the newer batch consoles a month or two ago. I love it because I am able to play the old cartridge games on my big screen and actually have them look clear and good. Also it's easy to use.

My experience with emulators on PCs in the past has been spending too much time trying to get them to work right and finding a gamepad that was responsive enough. That was many years ago, so maybe things have gotten better.

Legal issues aside I'm pretty happy with the console and I'm glad I bought it.

I'm think I'm going to call up amazon in the morning and ask them to replace it because I bought it in the last 30 days. Thank you for the responses.
